Yeah, earplugs make it a little better. I also crewed for 20yrs (Norton & March AFB), tho on the reserve side 17 of them. The Baghdad, Balad, & Baghram med-evacs & "Angel Flights" pretty much ended it for me.
/watch?v=VH-KDGRwwck - Russian documentary about NATO transport aviation with English subs. Including C-141 Starlifter, C-5 Galaxy, C-17 Globemaster III.
When my dad went from being stationed at Buckley AFB (then ANGB) in Denver to Woomera in the middle of Aussie, we flew in a Starlifter to get there. One of the more unique memories in my life. It was actually kind of a cool flight. Long live the '141. GO AIR FORCE!!!!!!!!!
I was a flight engineer out of Norton AFB until 1986 and this acft is one the best in the world, I miss the ol girl and treasure the time I had in MAC 21st blackjacks, I never had a 141 strand me anywhere except in Australia and that didn't upset me much. a couple of extra days at the beach was ok with me.
I will have to say, this was the best flight I had ever taken with the Air Force. I had to hop to Dover in the summer of 1985 when my father had his first heart attack and leaving out of Rhein Main AB GE, this was the first airplane I had ever laid down on and went to sleep.
While stationed at Kunsan AB Korea "Wolfpack" in 1986, went to 'Cope Thunder'. They sent us on C-130 which took 6 hours - return trip was on C-141 and only took 3 hours. It was a nice ride.
The 141 was my favorite aircraft to fly in. It was so hot one time going to Qatar, I dehydrated and got a bloody nose. But I like them better than the C5 to fly in. I was in the 621 Air Mobility Squadron,(621AMOG)
I flew C-141s as a Flight Engineer for 12 years and the cockpit was the place to be on those long flights. There were 2 nice bunks in the cockpit and an overhead loft above the forward cargo compartment that the crew could get quite comfortable in.
For some reason the recording is a little "high" It's not that bad onboard. You do need earplugs! And as long as the floor heat works and the plane is not full of cargo? You can sleep where ever you want! I was a flying crewcheif on 141's 4 20 years so watch what U say!
I can't really complain...it was a free flight to Europe and the crew were great. It is a beautiful airplane. I salute you for doing 20 as a crewchief on one. That must have been the experience of a lifetime!
sure! until the floor heat went out! you could freeze beers against the bulkhead! And WE did!!! love it! I was a a flying CC, so I was upstairs sleeping in the "nav" seat.

Not nearly as bad as flying on a KC-135 from Andrews to Ramstein.

beats being crammed into a tiny seat on an airliner. i think 141's are the most comfortable rides ever.

Hmm...I think I'd take this over a commercial airliner. I think I'd be more comfortable curled up on the floor of a C-141 any day. :)
