should use a KPR118 (krypton) or XPR118 (xenon) bulb instead, as these are better designed for 9 volts. the KPR113 is only designed for 6 volts. technically both are over driven but the first two which are usually placed in flashlights using 6 D Cell Batteries (9 Volts) whereas the second one is designed for 4 D batteries (6 Volts). maybe then it wouldn't melt. idk just my thoughts.

The point of the lights is for use in combat or self defense, not really as a camp light (though they will work for that, just expensive).
