It is better to understand why something is bad and to make the choice to not do it because of what will happen. Yeah that's another thing too that when parents start out spanking their kids from the beginning, then that becomes what the kids respond too and it takes more work to get them to respond to non hitting dicipline. That's why parents who hit the kid for years, if they suddenly try no hitting they say oh not hitting doesn't work. But that's because they have acclimated the child to only obey when being hit. But starting out with dicipline without hitting is more effective as the kid grows.
The study also showed that kids who were started out with hitting dicipline NEEDED to be hit or spanked more as they got older. Hitting made the kid more rebellious and want to test the limits as much as possible.

This is how we end up with a bunch of weak kids that can't deal with reality. Why does everyone assume that parents that spank their kids are abusive people? I was spanked for doing bad things when I was little and I have turned out to be a confident business owner with a wife and 3 kids. Yeah, it disturbs me that something that is a sexual act between a man and woman is also performed on children and is considered "discipline". This is a great video, especially since it shows the kids' points of view. I don't agree with spanking either- I am 16 years old and my parents didn't spank me and I am proud to say so. A lot of people would assume that that means they didn't discipline me and that I've turned out to be a wild hooligan, but I can safely say that is NOT true at all. florenttx you're right that children exhibit behavior issues when there are needs that aren't being adequately addressed. Punishment doesn't solve underlying problems. The most important avenue for parents to pursue is understanding what's going on with your child, promoting good communication and setting a good example.
It's nice to see the children speak out. Here in Canada the Government is finally doing something about children's rights. My support for children's rights increased when I heard a DJ from Florida by the name of Darlene who I met while there say that she was paddled as a little girl by a teacher for not putting her name on her paper. If any teacher did that here, they would be fired on the spot. I am happy that all forms of corporal punishment will hopefully soon be banned in Canada.

The video assumes that children should be punished for "mistakes". While its clear opposition to corporal punishment is useful, by accepting the idea that childrens actions are to be judged as right or wrong by the adults around them, as "mistakes" rather than explorations say, misses the point that we don't grow by being punished.

I have friends who use Time Outs on their children, those two are wild don't listen are very disrespectful towards adult and because of that they now stay home instead of coming out to BBQs with all the other parents that use spanking and have well discipline children. Let me raise my children my way that actually works and you keep raising the children that will end up in jail later in life.

I remember being placed in the corner as punishment. I played with the rolle polles and played with my own shadow in front of the door making up dances. I totally forgot why I was their. I would day dream and go off into my own little world. WHAT PUNISHMENT LOL!
I was also spanked as a kid; not very often. I remember 2 incidences. It had a positive impact on me and I glad my parents did it!

It is better to understand why something is bad and to make the choice to not do it because of what will happen. We also must look at what we think is bad vs what really is bad Besides all kinds of people get arrested for DUI's, being drunk makes you incapable of reason, regardless of how you were raised, you don't think normally drunk. Alcohol is a very dangerous drug.

Usually when the children are spanked young, that is what they need as they get older, because that is their control... spanking blocks development in the brain. Higher brain functions -- rationalization, prediction, etc. -- are not developed. So no matter how sugar-coated, children at this age are more "animal" and primal than adults.

One of my friends, however, has been spanked by her parents and she started getting drunk at age 14. Just like my lil cousine, she was spanked and she gets only bad grades and is in trouble all the time. I could go on and on and on. Spanking is not equal to discipline - the fact that so many spankers believe that it is shows how embarrassing they are. They don't have real arguments, there are no arguments for hitting a little kid.

And a quick review of that group leads me to believe, again, that the rod was spared entirely too much. Yeah that's another thing too that when parents start out spanking their kids from the beginning, then that becomes what the kids respond too and it takes more work to get them to respond to non hitting dicipline. That's why parents who hit the kid for years, if they suddenly try no hitting they say oh not hitting doesn't work. But that's because they have acclimated the child to only obey when being hit. But starting out with dicipline without hitting is more effective as the kid grows.

We may disagree on certain things but must stick together on the bigger issues. Like you I hate child abusers, just don't confuse a parent who is setting a child straight with someone who is doing real physical harm and trying to hurt the child. There is a big difference and it is not right to intrude on good parents trying to do the right thing.

Yeah, it disturbs me that something that is a sexual act between a man and woman is also performed on children and is considered "discipline". It doesn't matter if your intentions aren't sexual, you're still striking them on the buttocks! (That's the excuse that most spankers use). There have been lots of people who have been brave enough to come out and share their experiences, about how being spanked as children negatively affected them.

If you want an example, google "Ann's letter to parents", "Beth Fenimore", etc. People really need to realize how damaging spanking really can be. Spankers just cover their ears and yell, "I can't hear you!" if anyone does mention this, but obviously they're just in denial, because people such as Ann and Beth Fenimore are living proof of this.

Many of the students have even said how erotic it can be being bent over a desk and being hit on the butt by an older male. @strongbad73 my daughter is nine years old never had anyone spank her-ever. all her teachers say she is the best behaved in their class i have weekly behavior reports all with the highest markings. she got 4.0 and countless awards for things such as citezenship ect. An emotionally well balanced child is a well behaved child. if you want to beleive it or not. it is emotional imbalances that cause bad behavior especially in children that act out of emotion most of the time.

This is a great video, especially since it shows the kids' points of view. I don't agree with spanking either- I am 16 years old and my parents didn't spank me and I am proud to say so. A lot of people would assume that that means they didn't discipline me and that I've turned out to be a wild hooligan, but I can safely say that is NOT true at all. They disciplined me in more creative and non-violent ways and I am so thankful for it. I love and respect them more than anything. <3

OMG, you people just won't give up will you? They'll never outlaw spanking, because too many people in the US still spank their kids, myself included. I was spanked as a kid as well, and grew up to be a loving, productive member of society. I've never been arrested, never got in trouble in school, and graduated with honors, then went on to law school. Not all spankers are abusive.

florenttx you're right that children exhibit behavior issues when there are needs that aren't being adequately addressed. Punishment doesn't solve underlying problems. The most important avenue for parents to pursue is understanding what's going on with your child, promoting good communication and setting a good example.

It's nice to see the children speak out. Here in Canada the Government is finally doing something about children's rights. My support for children's rights increased when I heard a DJ from Florida by the name of Darlene who I met while there say that she was paddled as a little girl by a teacher for not putting her name on her paper. If any teacher did that here, they would be fired on the spot. I am happy that all forms of corporal punishment will hopefully soon be banned in Canada.

The video assumes that children should be punished for "mistakes". While its clear opposition to corporal punishment is useful, by accepting the idea that childrens actions are to be judged as right or wrong by the adults around them, as "mistakes" rather than explorations say, misses the point that we don't grow by being punished.
. When children become difficult for the adults around them, there is a need they have that is not being satisfied.
Punishing them won't fulfill any need.
