Do me a favor. Look up the default rates for actual CRA loans. You'll see they were actually below the national average. It wasn't until greedy brokers and banks realized they could make a buck by offering similar loans outside the purview of the CRA and thus outside of government regulations that we got into this mess. So it wasn't the loans that government "forced" banks to give that caused this. It was the loans that banks gave on their own in hopes of making a quick buck.

The problem was that they failed the conservative principles when they had the power to implement them, now it is too late. The past congress spent and raised the debt, the tax cuts did work, the Fanny Mae loans did the major damage etc. Only the tax cuts were a piece of the conservative ideas, the rest is the liberal spending.

I'm skeptical of Newt because of his past failures to live up to conservative principles of the "Contract with America."

However, if targeted tax breaks for small business (under 100 employees) is what is needed to fuel our job engine (small business employs 80% of the American workforce), then I'd be for it. I would be opposed to any breaks or further bailouts for big business (they're the ones offshoring our jobs, and squandering handouts, besides they hold too much political power).
