How is it that the Dogs are the ones being abused, fought, tortured and forced into terrible conditions.....and yet they are being punished? How does that even make sense. I thought the justice system is supposed to protect victims, not try and persecute them.

Pit bulls are by far the most versitile breed out there. They can and will do anything they are trained to do. I once saw a pit bull herd livestock, when they were once used to bait it! It is proven through the eveloution of the canine, that what we train and use a particular breed for, over the years....soon becomes what the breed enamours. What I would call breed characteristics of the APBT, is its athleticism, loylaty, tenaciousness, drive, & devotion to people! Such will never change.

to the person who said they were bred to fight and kill other dogs please do some research before you state any other false facts. At one time years and years ago they were bred to get into a ring with a bull. only ones in illegal situations are bred to fight now, just like most labs arent bred to retrieve anymore. just be a family dog. The reason people use them to fight is because of strength and willingness to be so loyal that they will get in a ring a fight to death if thats what you want
@blandishblaze a child is 100-800 times more likely to be killed by you than any pit bull breed. a child is also considerably more likely to be killed by its crib. according to ATT (tools for us educated people) the APBT (American pit bull terrier) is the safest dog there is. labradores, by the way, are commonly mistaken foor pit bulls because they share many of the same characteristics; but again according to ATT labs can be considerably aggressive dogs. you work on banning bad parents first.
My staffy is a true fighter. She fights BSL. She fights my depression. She will be joining me next month, helping me raise money for children who are fighting Leukemia. She fights animal abuse, taking in unwanted or abused animals. She fights the bad reputation over her breed. However she never fights people. She never fights animals.
She is now living with her 5 other canines (3 are staffies) and 14 felines. As well as her 9 rats and 2 ferrets. She's never harmed a single one!!

I've also seen a labrador do the same. I've been attacked by a collie, leaving me with a severely damaged arm and hand, which I still struggle to use. My dogs have been attacked by a Labrador and a Jack Russell on several occasions. ALL breeds attack. It's a fact. Not only 'pit bull' dogs attack. You said 'Raised like a poodle'.. Poodles can be raised badly too!! Any dog can be!! Also, I don't think I am tough, and neither are my dogs! I walk them through fields. Stereotyping.
@XxbritpupxX Some of the nastiest and most aggressive dogs I've seen at dog parks have been Standard Poodles. Perhaps we should ask for breed legislation banning Poodles. I'd love to see them try passing that law in San Francisco! LOL

@rmp1809 Quite true. I've seen many friendly well-behaved Pit Bulls in dog parks and I recognize that they can be good pets. But I also recall two Pit Bulls roaming free in my neighborhood a few years ago randomly menacing dogs and people. When a police officer was called the dogs attacked him and he shot both of them. Statistically you are more likely to be mauled or killed by a Pit Bull than by any other breed, with Rottweilers ranking number two. There must be a genetic factor there.
Yes u r right, a lot of people and pets have been attacked by this breed. But wat a lot of ppl fail to do is to think from the dogs point of view. The number one reason a pitbull will attack someone is bc the dog is trained to attack or not trained at all and just thrown in a back yard or on a chain never to be socialized. Only people breaking the law have bread this dog to fight and kill other dogs. This dog at its first creation was bred to fight bulls. Through the years this has changed. This dog has been bred as a loyal protector, service, therapy, rescue, and show dog. They have been used for fighting do to their great strength and loyalty to die in a ring if their owner asks.

@rmp1809 If that statement is correct, then so are bulldogs....Great Danes, Akitas and Giant Schnauzers. They were all bred to be guard dogs. So why aren't they outwardley agressive? Pitbulls were bred to be in rings with BULLS....hence the name. And they were also bred to be the best at whatever their owner needed at the time. Just because people exploit that quality in them, doesn't mean it's in there "Genes" to want to fight.
@MangledMaggie None of those dogs are bred for fighting any longer. The Akita IS often outwardly aggressive and is only just starting to be bred for companionship in addition to guarding. I agree that it is never the dog's fault. Rather, irresponsible breeding and/or owners create ill behaved dogs. Personality can be influenced by genetics just as much as any physical traits. Good owners can end up with "bad" dogs, even if they do EVERYTHING right, due to genetics. This is my argument.

The aggressive behavior in some pits come from improper training, socialization (which is necessary for ALL breeds of dogs), or lack there of. As well as abuse. I LOVE my pitbull. She the most loyal dog I have ever had. At first I didnt want and like pitbulls but, my husband told me to just test her out so I did. And now, I cant live without my princess. GOD bless this breed. I LOVE YOU IRIE

I don't believe that it is the breed of the dog. It is the people who raise them to be fighting dogs that need to be put out to pasture not the innocent victims, the dogs themselves. I learned from someone that the dog that was in the old television show, The little rascals was a pit bull. I can remember watching that show and the dog was so smart. It never dawned on me until it was mentioned. Not all dogs are bad, it is just how they are raised. No dog has a mean streak in them at all.
It's soo sad because Pits (from what I hear) are soo eager to please their owner and with their gamness, they will literally DIE trying to make their owner satisfied whatever it may be.. I would be any HONOR to own a breed of dog that loves me and would put their life on the line without question to make me happy.. You cannot get more dedicated than that.. @mixwell1983 they have such big hearts. my male actually tripped me with his chain and when i scramed he crawled to me and just looked @ me like "i'm so sorry mommy" and he has been very careful about it since then too. he is a wonderful dog who actually protected me a few weeks ago when a vicious stray wandered into my yard and tried to bite me. my male pit pinned him to the ground by his throat and when i told him to he let the stray up and the dog took off running and my pit came to me

If you've never owned a bulldog you shouldn't even post a comment on here. and someone earlier talked about inmates likeing pits, well guess what you can't have a dog in jail. These inmates are the same ones who leave their dogs chained to trees to starve and die. I was a police officer for many years and resopnded to many animal abuse calls and most were pits that had been starved and made to fight. How would you react? People like that give My beloved dogs a bad name.
I don't agree with the banning of any breed. The dogs will act on how they are raised. I own three Pits; a Red, a Blue/Stafford Shire, and a stray someone beat and dropped on me. Two are Males and the stray is a female. They are all Family dogs! My red would die for my Family including my in-laws. My dogs react on my feelings I suspect this would be the same for any breed. If I don't like someone you can bet my dog won't either. I'm with Old Sch, if youve never owned one you cant judge.

well, The cane corso has a better temperment then the pit bull, but does just the same things they do. any protection breed for that matter, should, and will naturally protect you and are just as tenatious. I am not saying that they are a bad breed at all, I have a lot of respect for them, I love all the working breeds. The pit bulls just need the right owner. With a calm-assertive energy to control them and keep them balanced. But you need that to control any working breed.

BTW, I don't care if you own a Pit or not. Own a tiger for all I care. As long as you secure it behind a suitable fence and don't bring it into public places. Well we might as well make all owners license then. If you go by dogs that are being banned or restricted (75 in all in the U.S right now) There are a lot of dogs who aren't doing too well. Including Pugs, the Golden Retreiver, and the Labrador Retreiver. The problems we see today with dog attacks are the cross breed mutations !!! They cross Pits with Presa Caniros and other large people aggressive breeds. APBT's by nature are not people aggressive. Pits for over 100yrs weighed 35-55lbs now are 75-135 lbs and blue . WTF

I think what they are trying to say is that its the owners that breed and train them to fight. I sold a pit to a guy who had never even owned his own dog before. I made him meet with me three times before I agreed to sell him the dog. His dog is great now.

I got my APBT because they were bred to be THE BEST type of dog. Good in all aspects, and bred to protect children (I don't have any yet). They were used for fighting AFTER they'd been around for a while.
I socialized my dog and she is great with kids, cats, dogs, and adults. The alabama supreme court ruled that BSLwrong. NO dog is born more aggressive than another, THUS BSL is unjustified. This was scientifically proven.

People don't get Pits because they bite, they get them because of what they can do when they bite. Taming something so dangerous makes people feel cool and tough. Bite numbers mean nothing. I'll take a 1,000 snippy little dog bites to one Pit attack. You and I both know that if Pits weren't the most dangerous common breed alive, they wouldn't be nearly as popular. They aren't the most common fighting breed because they are docile and loving.

I am glad I live in Illinois where there is a law that stops cities, counties, etc. from making a bsl-law. In Chicago you have to have insurance, a fence which is common sense, a 6 foot leash, and I do believe a muzzle when walking the dog not quite sure about that, because I live in a suburb of Chicago where there isn't anything like that.

Pit bulls are by far the most versitile breed out there. They can and will do anything they are trained to do. I once saw a pit bull herd livestock, when they were once used to bait it! It is proven through the eveloution of the canine, that what we train and use a particular breed for, over the years....soon becomes what the breed enamours. What I would call breed characteristics of the APBT, is its athleticism, loylaty, tenaciousness, drive, & devotion to people! Such will never change.

@blandishblaze a child is 100-800 times more likely to be killed by you than any pit bull breed. a child is also considerably more likely to be killed by its crib. according to ATT (tools for us educated people) the APBT (American pit bull terrier) is the safest dog there is. labradores, by the way, are commonly mistaken foor pit bulls because they share many of the same characteristics; but again according to ATT labs can be considerably aggressive dogs. you work on banning bad parents first.

My staffy is a true fighter. She fights BSL. She fights my depression. She will be joining me next month, helping me raise money for children who are fighting Leukemia. She fights animal abuse, taking in unwanted or abused animals. She fights the bad reputation over her breed. However she never fights people. She never fights animals.
She is now living with her 5 other canines (3 are staffies) and 14 felines. As well as her 9 rats and 2 ferrets. She's never harmed a single one!!

I've also seen a labrador do the same. I've been attacked by a collie, leaving me with a severely damaged arm and hand, which I still struggle to use. My dogs have been attacked by a Labrador and a Jack Russell on several occasions. ALL breeds attack. It's a fact. Not only 'pit bull' dogs attack. You said 'Raised like a poodle'.. Poodles can be raised badly too!! Any dog can be!! Also, I don't think I am tough, and neither are my dogs! I walk them through fields. Stereotyping.

I'm so sick of uneducated dog lovers stating the "it's all in how you raise them" lie. There is a little thing called GENETICS that influences their behavior IN ADDITION to the way they are raised. The dog was selectively bred to fight and kill other dogs. As a result, they are more likely than many breeds to be dog aggressive. There are great pits out there, but they can also be very dangerous when bred or raised incorrectly.

@rmp1809 Quite true. I've seen many friendly well-behaved Pit Bulls in dog parks and I recognize that they can be good pets. But I also recall two Pit Bulls roaming free in my neighborhood a few years ago randomly menacing dogs and people. When a police officer was called the dogs attacked him and he shot both of them. Statistically you are more likely to be mauled or killed by a Pit Bull than by any other breed, with Rottweilers ranking number two. There must be a genetic factor there.

The number one reason a pitbull will attack someone is bc the dog is trained to attack or not trained at all and just thrown in a back yard or on a chain never to be socialized. The Breed was brought to america by people from brittain.
They were meant to protect farm animals against coyotes and other predators.
Eventually you got the American Staffordshire terrier.
So they cross breeded to get to the Pitbull.

BUT There genetics dont make m aggressive,its the owners that make m viscious.

Only people breaking the law have bread this dog to fight and kill other dogs. This dog at its first creation was bred to fight bulls. Through the years this has changed. This dog has been bred as a loyal protector, service, therapy, rescue, and show dog. They have been used for fighting do to their great strength and loyalty to die in a ring if their owner asks.

@rmp1809 If that statement is correct, then so are bulldogs....Great Danes, Akitas and Giant Schnauzers. They were all bred to be guard dogs. So why aren't they outwardley agressive? Pitbulls were bred to be in rings with BULLS....hence the name. And they were also bred to be the best at whatever their owner needed at the time. Just because people exploit that quality in them, doesn't mean it's in there "Genes" to want to fight.

@MangledMaggie None of those dogs are bred for fighting any longer. The Akita IS often outwardly aggressive and is only just starting to be bred for companionship in addition to guarding. I agree that it is never the dog's fault. Rather, irresponsible breeding and/or owners create ill behaved dogs. Personality can be influenced by genetics just as much as any physical traits. Good owners can end up with "bad" dogs, even if they do EVERYTHING right, due to genetics. This is my argument.

I don't believe that it is the breed of the dog. It is the people who raise them to be fighting dogs that need to be put out to pasture not the innocent victims, the dogs themselves. I learned from someone that the dog that was in the old television show, The little rascals was a pit bull. I can remember watching that show and the dog was so smart. It never dawned on me until it was mentioned. Not all dogs are bad, it is just how they are raised. No dog has a mean streak in them at all.

If you've never owned a bulldog you shouldn't even post a comment on here. and someone earlier talked about inmates likeing pits, well guess what you can't have a dog in jail. These inmates are the same ones who leave their dogs chained to trees to starve and die. I was a police officer for many years and resopnded to many animal abuse calls and most were pits that had been starved and made to fight. How would you react? People like that give My beloved dogs a bad name.

I don't agree with the banning of any breed. The dogs will act on how they are raised. I own three Pits; a Red, a Blue/Stafford Shire, and a stray someone beat and dropped on me. Two are Males and the stray is a female. They are all Family dogs! My red would die for my Family including my in-laws. My dogs react on my feelings I suspect this would be the same for any breed. If I don't like someone you can bet my dog won't either. I'm with Old Sch, if youve never owned one you cant judge.

for everyone who watches this BSL stands for Breed Specific Laws and that means more then just AST it includes the top 40 most agressive breeds, this inclueds rotties, dobes, huskey and a lot of others, I own aussies and they are on the top 40. If you look up laws you will notice some really stupid things that people are doing just besides BSL. In a city in Colorado aussies are not allowed bc they are considered to agressive. All im saying is RESEACH you will find out a lot :)

Please remember...that part of the video..shows a dog..specifically trained. This isn't coming naturally. Unfortunately you focus because of the breed. Study the other breeds used..and tell me...how many have the tenacity this dog has. Keep loving the breed tho please :)

well, The cane corso has a better temperment then the pit bull, but does just the same things they do. any protection breed for that matter, should, and will naturally protect you and are just as tenatious. I am not saying that they are a bad breed at all, I have a lot of respect for them, I love all the working breeds. The pit bulls just need the right owner. With a calm-assertive energy to control them and keep them balanced. But you need that to control any working breed.

BTW, I don't care if you own a Pit or not. Own a tiger for all I care. As long as you secure it behind a suitable fence and don't bring it into public places. If the owners are the problem, then you can't be against qualifying and licensing owners to be sure that unsuitable people don't ruin it for the rest of you. Well we might as well make all owners license then. If you go by dogs that are being banned or restricted (75 in all in the U.S right now) There are a lot of dogs who aren't doing too well. Including Pugs, the Golden Retreiver, and the Labrador Retreiver. I'm surprised the Dalmation isn't up there, but seeing as a lot of insurances are dropping them I won't be surprised if they pop up soon.

I also have two and 1 is a rescue. The the second joy of my life behind my boys . I've owned six pitbull's over the last 28 years and have no complaints against me or any of my dogs. The problems we see today with dog attacks are the cross breed mutations !!! They cross Pits with Presa Caniros and other large people aggressive breeds. APBT's by nature are not people aggressive. Pits for over 100yrs weighed 35-55lbs now are 75-135 lbs and blue . WTF

I think what they are trying to say is that its the owners that breed and train them to fight. I sold a pit to a guy who had never even owned his own dog before. I made him meet with me three times before I agreed to sell him the dog. His dog is great now.
It's the owners that want them for the wrong reason. I believe they can be good for any owner that has the time for a dog. Nobody should get a dog if they don't have time for it, regardless of the breed.

I got my APBT because they were bred to be THE BEST type of dog. Good in all aspects, and bred to protect children (I don't have any yet). They were used for fighting AFTER they'd been around for a while.
I socialized my dog and she is great with kids, cats, dogs, and adults. The alabama supreme court ruled that BSLwrong. NO dog is born more aggressive than another, THUS BSL is unjustified. This was scientifically proven.
I have my pittie around other people to show what GREAT dogs APBTs are.

People don't get Pits because they bite, they get them because of what they can do when they bite. Taming something so dangerous makes people feel cool and tough. Bite numbers mean nothing. I'll take a 1,000 snippy little dog bites to one Pit attack. You and I both know that if Pits weren't the most dangerous common breed alive, they wouldn't be nearly as popular. They aren't the most common fighting breed because they are docile and loving.

I am glad I live in Illinois where there is a law that stops cities, counties, etc. from making a bsl-law. In Chicago you have to have insurance, a fence which is common sense, a 6 foot leash, and I do believe a muzzle when walking the dog not quite sure about that, because I live in a suburb of Chicago where there isn't anything like that.
