*confused* I'm playing this piece for an audition....but the notes don't go together!!! I'm playing the ending along with this recording and I'm a whole step ABOVE the recording notes!! But my piece says it's in F. It's really throwing me off; how are we in dfferent keys? (I play french horn) Last time I checked, the ending note doesn't have a dissonance to it haha. X)
@pumpkinofdoom Don't worry, you're not going crazy. The wind ensemble arrangement is in a different key and I'm guessing you're reading off the orchestral part.
We're playing a very, VERY simplified version of this piece. But, then again, I bombed my audtion and ended up in 4th band. Anyway, it's a very pretty song. This is the first time I've heard the longer version, and it's better than I imagined it to be. Great job!
I agree with the poster below..as a clarinet player those triplets at 7:12 are a night mare. I have heard many bands play this...Trinity..Duncanville, Haltom.
Excellent english horn soloist. Great vibrato and tonal quality
I don't hear what you mean. At 2:05, the lyrical tune is heard and then it repeats for one minute. At 5:44, it returns and is repeated for another minutes. For a piece that is 9 minutes long, this tune is only heard for about 2 minutes of the piece. The rest of the material to my ears sounds nothing like this tune, and I find that disappointing. In other words, the development sounds little like the main tune to my ears.
My band (Duncanville) played this the year before in Chicago at the, or maybe it was the year before that... I'm not sure...
Anyways, as a clarinetist, I can testify that the part starting at 7:12 is HARD! Forty seconds of ceasless, nonsensical flats, sharps, and jumps in intervals at a relatively fast tempo. Completely random. Completely frustrating. Completely HARD!
For some reason, I found that section actually quite easy. It's weird because I have my share of troubles too as a clarinetist (I could never get that run down) but yeah for some reason that part just came to me out of nowhere and it was breeze for me.
is this a high school or college?

Yes, chocotastic, how dare you not run back there and smack the percussionist upside the head with your clarinet. Geez! >;)

The melody starting at 2:05 is one of the most gorgeous tunes I've ever heard. Why didn't he develop this tune more in the piece?!
Brittian86 3 years ago
the tune is repeated constantly throughout the entire piece, what are you talking about?

Very clean performance. Tonal quality is excellent. However just a little more fire in the already fine performace would be nice
I agree with the other poster also...tempo needs to be a little faster at the first melodic line after the beginning

Very good performance. You should post Music for Prague 1968.

The song is a little slow at times, but it contains such EXCELLENT musical quality that that fact is irrelevant. Thanks for posting.
