  • Looks nice and so easy but is it realy easy to make a coroplast fearing. I have 14m2 coroplast in my shed it is 3mm and white. Now i see some youtube trikes and now i know, it will work. Graet idea to make the tandem for your son. I like to work with aluminium, is your trike a Raptor model ?

  • nice use of coroplast

    are you still riding this?

  • Inventive, good design if a little unrefined and I enjoyed the video.

    Thanks for posting.

  • Just wondering... If it was built for a Carfree Challenge, how did you get it to the place where the competition was held?

  • Well Done, i like your construction although, it's more for street use than racing......... if i had done something like that the scrutineers would have defected my trike :(

  • Does the body cut wind resistance to any measurable degree? It looks perfectly positioned to catch you in the throat in a collision.

  • You should put together a work plan so others can follow in your footsteps. The tailbox you have is the best I have seen, simply because it is easily removable. With commuting long distances that is a great feature to have.

  • I must do this. I wonder where you get the recycled signs.

  • Simply Awesome. Thank you for showing us something SO COOL.

  • I second that!

  • In Texas it gets very hot in the summer, I built mine with a good sized roof, to shield me from the sun. Mine's not too streamlined, more like a boxy little car than the traditional bullet-shape body. But that doesn't seem to slow it down any! :D

  • Where did you get the parts to build it? was it expensive?

  • Love the set up.

Also, great job on the editing and narration. You narrated AFTER you shot, which is really cool - I rarely see that done with home clips and it works well ('cept for the rare echo (...rare echo)), but it's neat anyway.

  • Nice job, i'd love to build one myself.

  • Just curious, but isn't the idea of a velomobile to enclose a cycle so you can ride in bad weather? I don't see a canopy. Or can you just velcro one on?

  • The primary reason for enclosing the rider is for improved aerodynamics. However the fairing gives increases weather protection. The 'head out' configuration offers better visibility, freedom from condensation and the ability to hear traffic. 'Head in' offers better streamlining. It really depends upon your needs and intended use.

Comparison between Quest a European head out velomobile with normal bike:

200 watts on a normal bike gives 27 kmh / 17 mph whereas the Quest gives 45 kmh / 30 mph!

  • I think your rear fairing with all the room for groceries is one of the best set-ups I have seen. I had been thinking along these lines, and really appreciate your ingenuity.

  • ok cool. So may I ask how much this project cost you. I have an electric bike. I want something similar to my bike that would shield me from the elements. It gets cold here. Your velomobile seems like a good fit.

  • I'm guessing by project you're referring to the fairing part not the trike itself. The fairing is made out of 4mil coroplast. One sheet is a recycled political sign. The other two cost me $18 a piece at a sign shop. There's also maybe $20 worth of aluminum some hot glue and some colored electrical tape. The only thing to be aware of if doing this for a two wheeled bike is that the fairing will make you more vulnerable to crosswinds. Its not so much a problem with three wheels.

  • Can these be driven on the street?

  • Yes, It was my primary means of transport last May and June.

  • Very clever design.

  • THANK YOU ALL FOR WATCHING :[)

  • May I ask you how fast you can go in that bike? I'm planning to fair a bike myself with (!) paper-pulp. Just an experiment. Offcourse it will be impregnated against the elements. :)

  • So far the top speed I've gotten it up to was 47 miles per hour coming down a pretty steep hill. That was without a bottom to the fairing. With the almost finished bottom I expect the areodynamics will improve.

  • And give your son some streamlining too! :)

  • Nice job!

  • a very nicely constructed velomobile. I especially like the tilt-forward nose assembly and the easily removed tail system. Great thought and fabulous engineering went into this vehicle.

  • thats prettty sweet... i like the "mailbox" compartment :D

  • lol me too i didnt like it when he was building it cuz he didnt have any time to play tho :þ
