I have a 6505+ and a dual rectifier as i run a recording studio. Would investing in this be worthwhile? I need an amp than can handle everything that wouldn't be taken out on tour. Would you suggest this?
i know i am goin to get bashed for this but i think my spider valve mkii sounds wayyy better, i just like it better because its more scooped (which most people hate) but i love it... and because you can get wayy more gain saturation out of it... bt now i don't have to worry bout modeling at all, i just picked up a dual rec at guitar center so its all good now!
@jacosmith86 I wanted an fx loop too, so I could run my POD through the power amp section. But I bought mine anyway after hearing just how good this amp is on its own. The POD XT will probably be traded in on a Sanpera II.
Some one please answer my question........I have a Valveking head and i like it but it lacks gain i want to know if its worth buying the vypyr 120 watt head........plz dont tell me to buy pedals cuz i dont like distortion pedals.
@TheCephalic19 You DO NOT need distortion pedals with this amp, if you need more gain than what this amp has to offer, then you need a new set of ears instead of a new amp. More gain than you will ever need, and great tones on the tube versions. You wouldn't be disappointed with this amp.
So I have the 100 watt 2x12 solid state vypyr, and My input jack is all screwy. I've gotta put the cord almost in all the way but leave it out a little bit. Any way I can easily fix that? I'd assume I just loosen the nut on the jack but I figured I'd get some opinions first....
These amps sound great. The real trick is to run it through a 4-12 cab just like the big tube amps and there you have it; the huge sound. I own three vypyrs. 2 75 watt amps and one 30 watt and they all sound huge through a 4/12 cab. It's really a no brainer, this is the best sounding versatile amp out there regardless of the fact that it has a cheap price. Every time I see a used one out there I buy it. The amp's speaker will never sound like a 4-12 cab with the back open. Buy one while u can
whats great about this amp is on the 6505 setting is if you want EVEN MORE GAIN, turn on the XR Wilde stompbox or the tubescreamer, and tweak the settings.
played one of these, and in person, I almost ALMOST forgot I wasn't playing the real deal 6505.
the only give away is the digital high end fizz when I had the treble at 5 or over. but getting a 6 band and pulling out a chunk of the treble gain will help considerably.
i've got a vypyr 15 headed my way and i'm gonna have fun with that little practice amp! can't wait to pick up one of these things for gigs.
@hearshotkid91 I noticed no difference between the 6505 and this except for the high end but my eq wasnt toyed with any so it may have been just that. This also has EVEN MORE distortion and carry on the Rec setting and this has all the effects....although im not sure which is louder...
Not bad. It sounds pretty close to my 6505+ 112 but the low-end really isn't there and its a bit scratchy. Def better than than line 6 shit though! I'd rather play through an answering machine!
@usefulcoin Not all of Line 6's products are shit. This thing blows the Spyder 4 and Spider Valve MKII out of the water hands down. But, the Vetta II and the HD147(now discontinued) are/were great amps. The VYPYR head is great value for just over $500 though
Everyone talking shit about this amps according to this video is an idiot! You can't judge it's sound only from a camcorder's mic! Please do yourself a favor by not trying to prove me wrong. Unless you wanna prove to everyone that you're stupid.
the reason this doesnt have a "boom" at the end of the sound is probably A. because it is a combo, and B. because its not turned up loud... honest to god i did a side by side comparison with the valveking, vypyr, 6505, and jsx with the same cabinet and i found i liked the valveking and vypyr better... 6505 has no versatility shouldnt bother even putting a clean channel on that thing and it has one usable tone. plus, with an MXR eq pedal in the valvekings fx loop you can make it a fucking MONSTER

I think cutting through a mix depends more on your eq settings. Tubes add better feel and dynamic response. I dont think it affects how well it cuts through. '
@P0Psyckle your partly right, it does add better feel and dynamic response but they can help cut through the mix, depending on your presence control setting, it will help some but yes eq mainly it what decides mix shinethrough, mids and kinda treb bass has little effect on cutting, but mids have a huge impact, and if you scoop them make sure you can get them to sit in the mix right before playing a show...
You are correct .. tubes have no real tie to cutting through. If you want to keep some low balls but still cut, I have found pushing the mids is a nice method.
I have this amp. If you are in a band and need a loud amp with lots of effects without spending well over a gran then this is for you. It's loud and sounds good. Has all teh distortion you will ever need. Close to tube quality tone...better than any solid state amp out there. For the money it rapes everything in its class. This kills teh Line 6 Flextone and Vetta...as well as the Spider III and IV. Probably the only Line 6 that comes close to this is the tubed Spider Valve.
Dude I have owned them both. I'd be tempted to lean towards the Vypyr for gigs. Better clean channels, and the effects are more usable. However, the Spider Valve has a good sound and it sounds like a tube amp. Very loud too. But there's just something about the Vypyr that I like better. Definitely plug in and try them both.
@ustolemybeer thats what i thought but i looked into it it uses power tubes but the tone is from their solid state trans tube technology so its like a bunch of solid state preamps into a clean tube power amp, and the preamp tube is used as a buffer not for drive
well, I belive that the tone is produced from the solid state technology, your right there. And your anology is pretty close. the pre amp tubes just gives it more of a tube feel. even though it doesn't sound very tube-ish. I don't know if thats what you were trying to say or not.
WIERD HUM?? just bought the tube 60 based on extensive testing and this awsome video. it makes a wierd electronical hum. almost like a Transformer talking in the back ground when there is any distortion. When any sound is sent from the guitar to the amp, that wierd hum/eek sound is there tailing off with the noise gate. I am still within my 30 days and love the amp but anyone with any tips or know of software updates please comment!!!
I am changing the face plate on mine. I am building a thin wood piece covered in creme vinyl to go straight across the front and remove the Peavey logo. I love the amp. . hate the look!
I'd use it for a sort of clean and smooth sound for making ambient music or playing TOOL songs. or Metallica occasionally. I'm sure this is a great amp for me. and IS IT GREAT FOR RECORDING?!?!?!?!?? I still don't know how to set it up so my amp runs to my computer and I record it using audacity.... I always use a stupid Rock Band Microphone in front of the speaker.... not working out so good lately. so much rumble and loud crunchy sound apparently..
@MikeyGee001 I KNOW RIGHT?! Who needs a stack when you have a 120W 2x12 Combo amp? My Vox VT30 already gets pretty loud so I can't imagine this thing. It would probably destroy my neighborhood, let alone if it were a 256W stack
more money!which means i could probably go for the tube half stack(or the vypyr-II plus, thats how they may call their most fullyfeatured version)..i once thought i could probably buy a vypyr-I tube 60 now and when the vypyr-II comees out, sell that one to get a vypyrII but well no i dont feel like doing it..
what i basically need to do is use two eq pedals:one in front of the amp and one after-also my isp g-major noise gate has two functions one that works before the amp to cut the guitars noise and one after the amp to gut the amps hiss..plus the vypyr-II's will have some extra features i really really want and the fact is that i CAN wait for it..nowadays i dont really gig very much but on two years where ill be in 2 bands and record more, thats when i will really need a good amp!plus i can save up
i know i can do that but that way it effects the signal between the guitar to the amp not from the amp to the speaker...plus it adds lots of noise...i cant really describe to ya why i need an fx loop just thru one comment but i do need it!
sounds alright, besides the clipping. I have the pure transtube vypyr and it even sounds great! it's just a bit tighter overall due to the lack of tubes to fatten it up. and I LOVE tight tones so mine does exactly what I want. =D
Well,i dont call this tight,i call it thin lol.But no,actually the 75w and 100w version sound thick and heavy. The 30 sounds ok,and the 15 errr, good for a 15w amp a bit crappy generally speaking tho.
well,i didnt say it sounds thin on this vid its thick enough for me but trebly, and actually not what i expected when ive heard that the 6505 model on the tube vypyrs especially the 212 sounds EXACTLY like a 6505.ive played a 6505 and it was way more brutal so i also guess the camera is poor
Can you tell me what country this was built in? I'm trying to figure this out for various models. I think some of the lower Peaveys are no chinese made, but the upper models don't have the same construction issues.
There aren't that many vypyr tube videos out yet. These guys are at least trying to show off this amp to people who might want one. If I had one I'd do the same, instead of bitching about their playing. Grow up! Thanks to those who are trying.
boring boring boring! same stupid riff over and over, mistakes throughout, why post this video? you should have recorded another version without mistakes and varied the riffage a little bit!
It could be ur speakers. Its actually not trebly at all,but it used to be when i listened it thru my laptops spkrs.Bottomline is that u gotta try it for real to see its actual balls.;P
yeah but tube amps sound better when set louder so the tube sixtty would sound better than the onetwenty if it was on nine while the onetwenty would be on four right ?
great!I think ill wait a lil bit and get the half stack when it comes to Europe.and an midi to usb cable to do the firmware updates and the sanpera 2.And yes this amp has a great tight PUNCH!
Two questions-I play mainly rock but tend to play some thrash metal and death stuff going through symphonic and melodic metal stuff and suddenly hitting Clean warm tones like Jazz and funk continuing to some warmly distorted blues things. And here comes the question;will this amp be versatile enough? Is it good for rock?...and actually a third question I encountered now is:why would someone buy the 120 instead of 60 watt model since the 60 is loud enough?Does the 120 have a better sound quality?Ty
Each amp model does a decent job of sounding close to the real thing, but I would recommend this amp to only the people who don't use their neck pickups frequently. On the negative side, I have man complaints about this amp.
1. When switching any of my guitars into the neck position, all of my guitars sounded like they became single coils. My playing dynamics had to change to make note ring out for some reason.
2. Lack of sustain: Notes did not ring out at any volume level.
I just bought this amp over this past weekend and played the crap out of it for hours. I will give you my honest opinion about the amp, both good and bad. The good thing about this amp is it's ability to play tones very well in the bridge position of your guitar. I noticed that pinched harmonics were extremely easy to achieve, and pulliing off the "satch squeal" was a breeze on any amp selection.
I bought the Valve King 100w half stack a few years ago for its affordability (with 100w all tube power it sounded like a bargain) but when i got it home i was dissapointed to say the least! the over all tone was ok but there just wasn't nearly enough gain. I'm sure you can tell from the price tag that the likes of the VYPRs are in a different league altogether! i would stronly advise against the Valve King range! VYPR and 6505 series' are the way to go!
I have the head and im into heavy stuff Bullet for my valentine etc. and the amp is fine for it, plenty gain. It becomes muddy if you use it all. If you think it sounds to "fuzzy" change the preamp tubes to Tung-Sol 12AX7's thats what I did and the amp sounds tonnes better
Yeah thanks man ive been meaning to check them both out, and im sort of new to the whole preset thing, havent really used many amps before, but thanks
Hahah man dont owrry i got the viper, its sick, still trying to figure out all the amp models and shit, so far krankenstein and jsx are the nicest in terms of distorted sounds, any more you reccomend?
I read somewhere that Adam Jones(tool guitarist) is using a Diezel VH4 now instead of his Mesa Dual Rectifier. Have you tried the Dzl amp model for tool sounds?
Dude,to get an idea of what an amp sounds like there must be a lot of demos on the tube. Its not always easy to go try the amps, especially in Europe when u can hardly ever even see one.think how much demos there are on the ss version of it,u can almost see what every amp model and effect sounds like on almost every setting. And i doubt for that "almost" thing so dont u think the tube version should get some demos too?
ok..since ur not gonna make any demos, just please tell me-are u satisfied with the amp?did u have any reliability issues?does it deliver nice tone over the styles u play and which are those?thanks.
That I can do,, so if you bought it youd be playing around a long time with the settings to find sounds you like but for me i play mainly metal music and a bit of rock and it definatly satisfies my needs I mean this is only my second amp from a practise amp and its pretty fucking awsome, I mainly use the Jsx setting with medium lows and middles and high highs and distortion but yeah theres so many options for sound and tone youll have to spend a while figuring it all out
ok thanks for the info..i have basically not bought a vypyr yet for the fact that it has no fx loop, but i heard peavey will start selling them with fx loops soon..and i have figured how everything works before buying it,i found an online manual
Any issues or problems with this amp or is it good to go, ive been looking for a show amp and this seems most affordable and appealing, any comments or sugestions on it would be appreciated
the sanpera II would be a must, i have cabbed it and it sounds thick and sweet so you might consider the half stack version for your live show unless you plan to mic it. i haven't encountered any real probs with it other than the noise gate is always on which isnt an issue for some but maybe for others. get a lengthy midi cable and update it to the most current firmware. peavey will most likely address the noisegate issue with an option to turn it off in the future with updated firmware.
You could have a 2 string signature guitar after you. Come on let's here some proper playing g n r or Queen not ddd ddd ddd ddd ddd dddddddd ddd dddd dddd dddd ddddd ddd dd dd dd dd dd all the time.
Hey dude... Why don't you learn to play a proper song. You could have a 1 to 2 string signature guitar!!! Come on M8 lets here some queen or Guns n roses or a canon rock version not ddd ddd ddd ddd ddd dd dd dd ddddd all the time.

Would you suggest this but 60 or the 75w ss ?

I am changing the face plate on mine. I am building a thin wood piece covered in creme vinyl to go straight across the front and remove the Peavey logo. I love the amp. . hate the look!

I don't hear whats wrong with this amplifier?
I'd use it for a sort of clean and smooth sound for making ambient music or playing TOOL songs. or Metallica occasionally. I'm sure this is a great amp for me. and IS IT GREAT FOR RECORDING?!?!?!?!?? I still don't know how to set it up so my amp runs to my computer and I record it using audacity.... I always use a stupid Rock Band Microphone in front of the speaker.... not working out so good lately. so much rumble and loud crunchy sound apparently..
BloodCr0ss 2 years ago
I almost pickup up a Spider Valve and my bud was like "WAIT .. check out the Peavey gear"
I really like what I hear
120 tube watts .... that is RETARDED ...
MikeyGee001 2 years ago 16
@MikeyGee001 why is it retarted?
blackchidori34 1 year ago
@blackchidori34
Because 120 TUBE watts (not little solid state watts) is RETARDED loud, which means AWESOME, as in HOLY SHIT THAT IS LOUD !!
Nothing better than LOUD TUBE AMPS !!
MikeyGee001 1 year ago
@MikeyGee001 I KNOW RIGHT?! Who needs a stack when you have a 120W 2x12 Combo amp? My Vox VT30 already gets pretty loud so I can't imagine this thing. It would probably destroy my neighborhood, let alone if it were a 256W stack
CyValkarion 1 year ago
@MikeyGee001 I have both of them and trust me, the peavey is better, and my line 6 has had to be repaired yet my vypyr is still runnin strong :D
jasonsteck1333 1 year ago
@MikeyGee001 tell me about it i got a 30w at 1 volume out of 13 its plenty loud enough for practice and thats not with full gain
guitardude671 1 year ago
@MikeyGee001 why it's retarded

Dude, what are you settings for this sound. I am having get mine to sound good. The distortion is noisy and hollow sounding?
pinnacleent 2 years ago
more money!which means i could probably go for the tube half stack(or the vypyr-II plus, thats how they may call their most fullyfeatured version)..i once thought i could probably buy a vypyr-I tube 60 now and when the vypyr-II comees out, sell that one to get a vypyrII but well no i dont feel like doing it..
fullofblood 2 years ago
what i basically need to do is use two eq pedals:one in front of the amp and one after-also my isp g-major noise gate has two functions one that works before the amp to cut the guitars noise and one after the amp to gut the amps hiss..plus the vypyr-II's will have some extra features i really really want and the fact is that i CAN wait for it..nowadays i dont really gig very much but on two years where ill be in 2 bands and record more, thats when i will really need a good amp!plus i can save up
fullofblood 2 years ago
i know i can do that but that way it effects the signal between the guitar to the amp not from the amp to the speaker...plus it adds lots of noise...i cant really describe to ya why i need an fx loop just thru one comment but i do need it!
fullofblood 2 years ago
killer tone, only bad thing with those higain models on the vypyr is that they lack crunchyness and crispity unless u crank them..
fullofblood 2 years ago
I CAN STILL HERE THE ZEROES AND ONES
jewelrotti 2 years ago 2
Please use a mic that can handle that much vol! you have to amp way to loud for your cam. These amps sound way better then this!

i think he was using the usb-record out, which really doesnt sound good...he should use the headphones output for direct recording..

sounds alright, besides the clipping. I have the pure transtube vypyr and it even sounds great! it's just a bit tighter overall due to the lack of tubes to fatten it up. and I LOVE tight tones so mine does exactly what I want. =D
hearshotkid91 2 years ago
Well,i dont call this tight,i call it thin lol.But no,actually the 75w and 100w version sound thick and heavy. The 30 sounds ok,and the 15 errr, good for a 15w amp a bit crappy generally speaking tho.
fullofblood 2 years ago
well tone is all an opinion man so my tight and punchy may be your thin. or whatever.
but I do agree that it does sound thin here.
the thin sound in this vid probably is due to settings and the camera used to record with.
hearshotkid91 2 years ago
well,i didnt say it sounds thin on this vid its thick enough for me but trebly, and actually not what i expected when ive heard that the 6505 model on the tube vypyrs especially the 212 sounds EXACTLY like a 6505.ive played a 6505 and it was way more brutal so i also guess the camera is poor
fullofblood 2 years ago
yea, i'm blaming the most of it on the camera.
hearshotkid91 2 years ago
and yes i agree tone is personal preference!;D
fullofblood 2 years ago
I think it has a thick ballsey tone. What are the settings? Or is it just straight 6505?
vonsmitty 2 years ago
straight 6505 with reverb i think

Can you tell me what country this was built in? I'm trying to figure this out for various models. I think some of the lower Peaveys are no chinese made, but the upper models don't have the same construction issues.
Wrathorn 2 years ago
It's made in China i think
fullofblood 2 years ago
There aren't that many vypyr tube videos out yet. These guys are at least trying to show off this amp to people who might want one. If I had one I'd do the same, instead of bitching about their playing. Grow up! Thanks to those who are trying.

boring boring boring! same stupid riff over and over, mistakes throughout, why post this video? you should have recorded another version without mistakes and varied the riffage a little bit!

Not feeling this tone, too much treble
BijanMetallica 2 years ago
It could be ur speakers. Its actually not trebly at all,but it used to be when i listened it thru my laptops spkrs.Bottomline is that u gotta try it for real to see its actual balls.;P
fullofblood 2 years ago
because amps sound more fuller and better with two or more speakers, thats why the 120 is better than the 60.

yeah but tube amps sound better when set louder so the tube sixtty would sound better than the onetwenty if it was on nine while the onetwenty would be on four right ?

fullofblood 2 years ago
On other videos and the site it says the amps have power attenuator to drive the tubes to full capacity at low volumes :)
Man this amp has some really thick distortions and characteristic tones. Such a great value.
Wrathorn 2 years ago
great!I think ill wait a lil bit and get the half stack when it comes to Europe.and an midi to usb cable to do the firmware updates and the sanpera 2.And yes this amp has a great tight PUNCH!
fullofblood 2 years ago
Two questions-I play mainly rock but tend to play some thrash metal and death stuff going through symphonic and melodic metal stuff and suddenly hitting Clean warm tones like Jazz and funk continuing to some warmly distorted blues things. And here comes the question;will this amp be versatile enough? Is it good for rock?...and actually a third question I encountered now is:why would someone buy the 120 instead of 60 watt model since the 60 is loud enough?Does the 120 have a better sound quality?Ty

thanks for the pm reply

Additional complaints are
3. the inability to use the looper without spending an additional $99/&199
for either foot pedal.
4. Rolling the volume back does almost nothing to the tone, and it responds more like a digital distortion unit than a true tube amp.
Needless to say, I will be returning my amp within the next two weeks for a full refund at GC. I think I'm either going with a marshall or Bugera amp.
evolutionmb 2 years ago
I'd go Bugera if I were you.
Almosteasy911 2 years ago 4
Each amp model does a decent job of sounding close to the real thing, but I would recommend this amp to only the people who don't use their neck pickups frequently. On the negative side, I have man complaints about this amp.
1. When switching any of my guitars into the neck position, all of my guitars sounded like they became single coils. My playing dynamics had to change to make note ring out for some reason.
2. Lack of sustain: Notes did not ring out at any volume level.
evolutionmb 2 years ago
I just bought this amp over this past weekend and played the crap out of it for hours. I will give you my honest opinion about the amp, both good and bad. The good thing about this amp is it's ability to play tones very well in the bridge position of your guitar. I noticed that pinched harmonics were extremely easy to achieve, and pulliing off the "satch squeal" was a breeze on any amp selection.
evolutionmb 2 years ago
i loved this amp i played it at guitar center today and it was amazing, beats my line 6 ahaha.
i used the 6505 and used the tube screamer also great combo

I bought the Valve King 100w half stack a few years ago for its affordability (with 100w all tube power it sounded like a bargain) but when i got it home i was dissapointed to say the least! the over all tone was ok but there just wasn't nearly enough gain. I'm sure you can tell from the price tag that the likes of the VYPRs are in a different league altogether! i would stronly advise against the Valve King range! VYPR and 6505 series' are the way to go!
yossarian1983 2 years ago
Theres tonnes of gain in the Peavey Vavleking
I have the head and im into heavy stuff Bullet for my valentine etc. and the amp is fine for it, plenty gain. It becomes muddy if you use it all. If you think it sounds to "fuzzy" change the preamp tubes to Tung-Sol 12AX7's thats what I did and the amp sounds tonnes better
MegaDethCJ 2 years ago
This amp gives a good metalcore tone.
cohen5250 2 years ago 2
Yeah thanks man ive been meaning to check them both out, and im sort of new to the whole preset thing, havent really used many amps before, but thanks

Dont get the valve king get a XXX its better and does not a noise gate to cut off hum!Otherwise,go for the vypyr!
fullofblood 2 years ago
Hahah man dont owrry i got the viper, its sick, still trying to figure out all the amp models and shit, so far krankenstein and jsx are the nicest in terms of distorted sounds, any more you reccomend?

I read somewhere that Adam Jones(tool guitarist) is using a Diezel VH4 now instead of his Mesa Dual Rectifier. Have you tried the Dzl amp model for tool sounds?

Did u get the tube version of the vypyr?
fullofblood 2 years ago
Yeah I got this exact model which has the 4 tubes
Whathuhwhowhere 2 years ago
Great! Can u please do some demos on it?!!?:DDD
fullofblood 2 years ago
What this video not much of a demo enough for you?
Whathuhwhowhere 2 years ago
Dude,to get an idea of what an amp sounds like there must be a lot of demos on the tube. Its not always easy to go try the amps, especially in Europe when u can hardly ever even see one.think how much demos there are on the ss version of it,u can almost see what every amp model and effect sounds like on almost every setting. And i doubt for that "almost" thing so dont u think the tube version should get some demos too?
fullofblood 2 years ago
Yeah sure it deserves demos but I aint the guy to do it so find someone else buddy
Whathuhwhowhere 2 years ago
oh ok!;)
fullofblood 2 years ago
ok..since ur not gonna make any demos, just please tell me-are u satisfied with the amp?did u have any reliability issues?does it deliver nice tone over the styles u play and which are those?thanks.
fullofblood 2 years ago
That I can do,, so if you bought it youd be playing around a long time with the settings to find sounds you like but for me i play mainly metal music and a bit of rock and it definatly satisfies my needs I mean this is only my second amp from a practise amp and its pretty fucking awsome, I mainly use the Jsx setting with medium lows and middles and high highs and distortion but yeah theres so many options for sound and tone youll have to spend a while figuring it all out
Whathuhwhowhere 2 years ago
ok thanks for the info..i have basically not bought a vypyr yet for the fact that it has no fx loop, but i heard peavey will start selling them with fx loops soon..and i have figured how everything works before buying it,i found an online manual
fullofblood 2 years ago
Any issues or problems with this amp or is it good to go, ive been looking for a show amp and this seems most affordable and appealing, any comments or sugestions on it would be appreciated
Whathuhwhowhere 2 years ago
the sanpera II would be a must, i have cabbed it and it sounds thick and sweet so you might consider the half stack version for your live show unless you plan to mic it. i haven't encountered any real probs with it other than the noise gate is always on which isnt an issue for some but maybe for others. get a lengthy midi cable and update it to the most current firmware. peavey will most likely address the noisegate issue with an option to turn it off in the future with updated firmware.

Shit this isnt the head is it? Is it the 120 vypyr combo? cause thats the one i was thinking of, and it sort of looks like it in the background?

Ive also been looking at the valve king 212, any opinions on that?

Tube amps are for gigging and solid state are for the home. You just have to turn the tube amps up to much to get the sound.
I prefer the valve simulator amps which are solid state but have a valve in the circuitry.
Have a Valvetronix ad15vt and line 6 spider iii 75 Digitech GNX 4 at the mo.
Shal be selling some of that soon and getting the Vypyr 75 with the Sanpera ii pedal.
