to think a bunch of dirty fleabags from seattle, that sounded like high school garage bands killed this music!!!! thanx to all the ad execs and mtv for cramming it down everyones throats until it tasted good!! fuckin tragedy!!!
I saw these guys open for Spinal Tap. Back in 92' this type of metal had run itself into the ground, thanks to bands like Poison, Bon Jovi, Ratt, Cinderella, Skid Row (1st lp), Motley Crue etc people, including myself, were ready for something different. Grunge filled that need, it was totally different from what MTV was feeding us. Unfortunately bands like Roxy Blue and many other good bands suffered. Hopefully now they will get some recognition,
This song sounds like Van Halen - "Hot For Teacher" at the beginning. @ToolFan68: I think that early grunge like Nirvana were okay, but the later acts all started to sound the same and had less talent. Soundgarden went from okay to lame-ass screaming, and don't even get me started about Pearl Glam and Stone Temple Wussies. As far as hair metal (i.e. '80s to early '90s hard rock) I will always remember listening to it on Z ROCK twenty-some years ago...
@ToolFan68 i dont like hair metal outside of van halen and guns n roses(if u even consider them hair metal) but early grunge was good but it really fucked up the future of music. i mean todays music is almost all bands trying to do grunge and doign a terrible job of it
@ToolFan68 Then what made you look for such an obscure band/song and comment on it? Hair bands from back in the 80's-90's are still touring and selling out places. I just saw Danger Danger, Mr. Big, Tesla, Great White, Firehouse, Whitesnake and more at the M3 festival... Where are the grunge bands? NOWHERE!! Because they were a flash in the pan for a generation of kids that hated the world and parents. Good riddance!!
if anyone can find the actual vid and post it it would be greatly appricated ty METAL FOREVER (and dont sit here and say but this isnt metal i know im just sayin...)
Oh, and as far as the "one-take" recording? I highly doubt that. I know many professional musicians & I, myself, have recorded a major-label record and an independently-released record. There's too many elements that go into a recording that prohibit even the best musicians from doing an entire album in one take. Just sayin.
Don't you think "MOST" guitar players in the 80's ripped off EVH? I think so. Maybe this is not so original but, Metallica/Megadeth were copied thru out that era of music. The new music (so they call it) copies itself, I sometimes can't tell which band is on the radio, was that AC/DC nope its Airbourne(great band BTW) or Godsmack, Puddle of Mud, or...oh wait a minute, I can't tell. Point is, ALL bands got their influences from someone, HMM wonder who EVH was influenced by? just saying.
@thunderbeast1968 "Influenced by" & complete ripoff are 2 different things. This is a hack-job ripoff!!! For example: Steve Vai credits EVH as an influence for his song, "Juice". Sure, the intro sounds a LOT like VH's "The Full Bug". You can hear the influence, but Vai's style is completely different than Van Halen's. If you played guitar, you would completely agree with me. This song has the "Eruption" wanna-be intro, the "Show Your Love" doo-wop breakdown and everything. Ripoff!!
Just heard this song on internet radio...... wow. Apalled @ the blatant Van Halen ripoff. Even the copied shoobie-doo-wah breakdown of the superior VH song, "Show Your Love" . Any references comparing EVH to this guy should be immediately blown off. Eddie's off-the-cuff, hap-hazard (yet mixed with technique) style, tone, & outright ORIGINALITY is what makes him god & all wanna-bes irrelevant. No wonder I never heard of this band. This is why grunge killed this kind of rock.
@jambo383 Although in my hair band obsessed days I loved this CD, I have to agree. It's a blatant rip off, and exactly what was wrong with this scene at the time. The level of cheese oozing from this song and band (and the countless others like them at the time) are cringe-worthy at this point.
@VanishaGlamChick6 This is GREAT but umm.. yeah grunge music killed this genre the second "Smells Like Teen Spirit" became a hit.. Not saying it is dead today, it is nostalgic.. BUT I love Nirvana.. but I'll take this stuff right here over almost everything...
One of their best songs. Roxy Blue was the best band to come out of Memphis. You should have seen them in the club days. Wish they were still together and playing....
What tiny fame they had came from this "shocking" song. But despite their obvious VH riffing, they actually put out an excellent record. I need to go see if I can find it on iTunes - haven't listened in years.
Incidentally, because of the fast beat, it's a terrific workout record.
Anyone else hear a bit of Bas's "Youth Gone Vocals" in some of the early bits of this song?
This song = awesome when you ARE a sixteen year old girl and ....now .....dread.... when you are the parent of a soon to be teenage girl ! I am getting so old.
Shoulda called it "rob van halen". This kinda shit almost makes me glad grunge came along and killed this crap. what a joke. This is Steel Panther- only these clowns weren't kidding around.
@alisimon5 hahaha... and THEN you put down the meth pipe. Not quite there, big shooter. They should give all their royalties to Eddie & Dave. This shit makes Poison look like Led Zeppelin.
Oh and by the way... my boyfriend, the lead guitarist was also the lead guitarist for saliva. He owns the royalties for "click click boom" and "your disease" which was the only songs i think saliva was ever famous for. Saliva blows compared to roxy blue.
more like blatantly obivous lol at least poison and pretty boy floyd were alittle discret about it these guys just dont give a fuck lol dam catchy song lol

this is right before grunge came and chopped the 80s dudes down. i dunno if its as good as a say van halen but it does have good energy. ROCK!!!!!! AHHHHHHH!!!!!
death to grunge! (even though it's already dead as punk rock is... oh yeah DEATH TO PUNK ROCK TOO!!!) GLAM ROCK AND HEAVY METAL FOR-FREAKEN-EVER!!!(WOOOHOOO!!! CAPSLOCK!!!)
Scotty T rockin his ass off. Awesome video. I can say one thing about this band. They had the very same energy live that you see in this video. And the drummer is just one cool dude. He still plays locally in a band with john roth (of winger) so I am still able to get my 80s fix once in a while.
Hello biffbyford, soyour saying it's not possible for a band to sound like another and make a good song? Your a fucking moron. You're the drunk standing in the crowd of the free concert at the local art festival waving a beer bottle screaming "SKYNARD! SKYNARD!". All because of the lame construction job you have doesn't pay enough for you to go to a real concert.
Also, if you hate the song that much why the hell are you here watching the video in the first place?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
If you truly believe that Roxy Blue are better song writers than Nirvana then I can't argue with you- "ignorance is bliss" as they say so you must be in heaven.
a third rate dave era van halen clone. note the singer doing a split a la dave. note the guitarist sounding exactly like ed and trying to look like him. note the acapella just like in "i'm the one". were they serious? did they not think people would notice?
i still cannot see how that grunge garbage could have EVER replaced the musical talent and the showmanship that our beloved rock-n-roll/metal hair bands had,and STILL have!! Do i get an 'AMEN' on that??!!
wtf. where they deliberately sending themselves up in that vid?? having seen the "times are changing", i suspect not. oh dear lol even in 92, this was outdated. as the 80s glam/hard rock bands had already changed style and musical direction to beat off the grunge torrent(of shit). check out bonjovi's "keep the faith", ratt's "nobody rides for free" or even britney fox's 1991 youtube vids on here. to show that they were playing "dead music"
even in 92, this sound and ESPECIALLY the threatrics in the vid were outdated. as the 80s glam/hard rock bands had already changed style and musical direction to beat off the grunge torrent(of shit). check out bonjovi's "keep the faith", ratt's "nobody rides for free" or even britney fox's 1991 youtube vids on here. to show that they were playing "musuem music"
now if grunge hadnt happened, bonjovi's "keep the faith"/ ratt's "nobody rides for free"/ GnR would have been the direction LA hardrock would have gone in. harder, more bass maybe funk/house style heavy, murkier

I think this is R. Kelly's favorite song. The guitar player/EVH wannabe should've just gone all the way and striped his guitar red/black/white. This band is the equivalent of a 3rd trimester abortion.

the best thing to ever happen to the music world was when Kirk Cobain blew his damn brains out.

Does Van Halen get residuals for this blatant rip-off? The only thing I can think is that they were paying homage to Eddie and the boys...
JacFlash 4 years ago
even though i like the song
they were so copying Van Halen
it sounds way to much like Van Halen
to just be a coincidence

Not single beat, note or word that hasn't been already done a million times before and a million times better in short, soulless cat shit.

agree based on this song. it sounds like a david le roth mix
leiefilm 4 years ago
The biggest Van Halen rip off ever. And they can barely pull that off. This fucking blows.

Scotty T rockin his ass off. Awesome video. I can say one thing about this band. They had the very same energy live that you see in this video. And the drummer is just one cool dude. He still plays locally in a band with john roth (of winger) so I am still able to get my 80s fix once in a while.

they sound like the band Black N Blue with jamie st.james as the lead singer.they sound almost the same.

I miss the real headbangers ball on MTV years ago-I still have this CD, very good, they reminded me of mix between White Lion/Trixter/Van Halen
Joelsbuckeyes 4 years ago 2
Granted they do sound just like Van Halen, it's actually a good song. It will beat the shit outta 'Smells like Teen Spirit' any day.

Spoken a like a true idiot. You're probably wearing acid wash jeans tucked into white high tops as we speak.
biffbyford 4 years ago
Hello biffbyford, soyour saying it's not possible for a band to sound like another and make a good song? Your a fucking moron. You're the drunk standing in the crowd of the free concert at the local art festival waving a beer bottle screaming "SKYNARD! SKYNARD!". All because of the lame construction job you have doesn't pay enough for you to go to a real concert.
Also, if you hate the song that much why the hell are you here watching the video in the first place?

This comment has received too many negative votes show
If you truly believe that Roxy Blue are better song writers than Nirvana then I can't argue with you- "ignorance is bliss" as they say so you must be in heaven.

van halen?
haywood16 4 years ago
a third rate dave era van halen clone. note the singer doing a split a la dave. note the guitarist sounding exactly like ed and trying to look like him. note the acapella just like in "i'm the one". were they serious? did they not think people would notice?

i still cannot see how that grunge garbage could have EVER replaced the musical talent and the showmanship that our beloved rock-n-roll/metal hair bands had,and STILL have!! Do i get an 'AMEN' on that??!!

wtf. where they deliberately sending themselves up in that vid?? having seen the "times are changing", i suspect not. oh dear lol even in 92, this was outdated. as the 80s glam/hard rock bands had already changed style and musical direction to beat off the grunge torrent(of shit). check out bonjovi's "keep the faith", ratt's "nobody rides for free" or even britney fox's 1991 youtube vids on here. to show that they were playing "dead music"
jb31975 4 years ago
even in 92, this sound and ESPECIALLY the threatrics in the vid were outdated. as the 80s glam/hard rock bands had already changed style and musical direction to beat off the grunge torrent(of shit). check out bonjovi's "keep the faith", ratt's "nobody rides for free" or even britney fox's 1991 youtube vids on here. to show that they were playing "musuem music"
jb31975 4 years ago
now if grunge hadnt happened, bonjovi's "keep the faith"/ ratt's "nobody rides for free"/ GnR would have been the direction LA hardrock would have gone in. harder, more bass maybe funk/house style heavy, murkier
jb31975 4 years ago
Yeah, like so what...
Jeez, do you always sound like a broken record? Do you really think these idiotic posts are gonna change anybody's mind about this band?
You've posted 4 posts that essentially say the same thing, repeating yourself over and over.
Like doh...
Get a clue...

I think this is R. Kelly's favorite song. The guitar player/EVH wannabe should've just gone all the way and striped his guitar red/black/white. This band is the equivalent of a 3rd trimester abortion.

He didn't OD, he blew his brains out...which is a shame, but I didn't lose too much sleep...I love hair bands too!

Wow is this the first VH tribute band? I hope Eddie and Alex got royalties for this. What a blatant ripoff.
