Amazing that after all this time... Repubs are still focused on negative campaigning and insulting Obama rather than coming up with their own plans. Exactly what McCain did, and he lost miserably. They even have PALIN as their top cheerleader/spokesperson or whatever. They want her as the face of their party, where its her nasty, divisive idiocy that lost it for McCain. They want to lose more, lol
The only differences in the state now from 1988 is that the suburbs of Pittsburgh have been trending Republican (except Butler County which has been staunchly Republican). Though Michael Dukakis lost the state, he had impressive showings in most of Western Pennsylvania.
The problem though mbs93188 if you're a Republican in PA is that the parts of PA that are trending GOP are losing relative population. The parts of PA that are trending Democratic are gaining. That's why Obama won the state by double digits. As soon as MSNBC made this projection, I KNEW McCain's goose was cooked! Because PA is NEVER, NEVER, NEVER called that early unless the Democratic candidate is kicking ass (pun intended)!
The primary reason why Republicans have not carried Pennsylvania since 1988 is because of the Philadelphia Suburbs (about a fifth of the state's population), which have trended more Democratic, including the most wealthy one: Chester County. George H.W. Bush, who was more moderate than his son carried the state by 3 points because of that region, as opposed to his son who lost the state by 3 points.
you'll see in 2012 when newt gingrich beats obama were going to win all of republican states. were going to win all the battle ground states like ohio, florida, colorado, and nevada. not only that were going to take some other democrate states like iowa and pennslvania. and win this election landslide. and good bye obama and our new 45th president newt gingrich. victory speech in virgina newt's hometown. 500,000 people will be there. more than obama this will be a historic victory.
haha, conservative delusions are funny, you fucked this country up so badly and alienated such a huge portion of the population (Hispanics, immigrants, gays, and blacks) I'd be surprised if you win any presidential elections in the next 40 years.
next 40 years your funny the way obama is fuckingup right now i think hes already the worst president ever.the american people are tired of him already i also know alot of people that regret that they voted for him.
You hated him before he even took office, your opinion is the opinion of a small group of people who really are a very small minority. He doesnt even have a year in office and for you to say he is already the worst president only reflects your ignorance and bigotry. He will win again in 2012, and in 2016 the republican party is either gonna re-evaluate its position on many issues or face the harsh reality of extinction.
He can sit in the white house lawn smoke a blunt and drink a 40, and he will still win in 2012. He can walk around D.C. making fart jokes and he will still smash the republican party in 2012.
how can you be so sure man and also the reason why he won was becuz mccain was a moderate.this time he will be going against a conservative.this is going to be like when jimmy carter was there for 4 years and he sucked.then reagan took over and fixed everything. same with newt gingrich hes going to like reagan and obama is like carter. i'm telling you history will repeat itself.
bush's policies failed in the first 4 but all we had was freakin john kerry... so it was either take the crippled kid for kick ball or the mentally retarded one...
@Meoff01 how did the 2010 mid term elections work out for the democrats? In 2012 the democract party os either gonna re-evalute its position on many issues of face the harsh reality of the collapse of the welfare state.
@evansville70 To answer your question directly, it gave us the least popular congress in history. One where routine acts of a functioning government were turned into manufactured crises; destructive political games of chicken all for the sake of undermining the fragile economy. All in order that Obama be blamed for it.
HAha you make me laugh, Obama has already stopped a Depression from happening, not even 1 year on, bring on whoever you want, Gingrich, Palin, Romney.....does not matter, bring it on, you wont get the votes that count. Get all the joe the plumbers you want, most ppl live in cities, big cities vote Democratic. I don't see many ppl moving to the Bible belt on purpose.
wow you just embarrassed yourself there got us out of depression hahaha obama already lead us to debt with his stimulus plan the spending is outcontrol even his own vp joe biden said it. they almost stopped the stimulus because thats how out of control it is.
Gingrich is one of the lamest white men in America, look around you, you need minorities to win. You would be better off with Bobby Jindal, but then again the base wouldn't vote for him. You need somebody like Bill Clinton, but a person of that caliber wouldn't be caught dead representing the party of the uneducated and racists. Im sure you guys can still win in the bible belt and all those places that people leave in search of a better life (usually to a big fat liberal city).
Luckily a large majority of white America is educated, and chooses the right candidate instead of the right color, think it was proven last November. And i dont see Obama standing on the White House Lawn screaming "fuck whitey" any time soon so his chances of losing in 2012 are pretty slim. It's not that Obama cant lose, is that Republicans at this moment in time cant win.

MSNBC especially Keith Olbermann, is biased. Joe Scarborough and Pat Buchanon are alright but Olbermann is a Christian bashing bozo. his worst person is funny though when he dopesnt bash Christians.
Calling a state does NOT reflect media bias. A projection is based on exit polling, a scientific and mostly accurate method. I'm sure Republican states like Texas or Utah were called even earlier.
Given that Pennsylvania went for Obama by 11%, it wasn't a swing state either. In fact, almost every poll in the last few weeks coming out of Pennsylvania showed the that it was going to be a double digit percentage victory and not the close result that the McCain campaign expected. With that large of a margin, the exit polls would scream an Obama victory.
Well, when you look at the final numbers, Pennsylvania wasn't a "swing state" this time around. The media labeled it as such based on the results there in 2000 and 2004. But as Zappa says below, polling showed PA going to Obama by a large margin, and on election night it did. PA was not a swing state this time around. The networks were able to call it fairly at the top of the hour, just as they were able to call states McCain won in a rout.
Exit polling. There is more than one way to call a state.
Also, don't be foolish; just because MSNBC says that a state is "0% in" in terms of votes counted, doesn't actually mean that ZERO PERCENT of all votes have been counted, ROFL.
I worked with the Obama Campaign in Philadelphia for 7 months!!!, and I am so happy that Obama picked Pennsylvania to move on towards being the 44th president of the United States.
Man, I totally got shit for that comment and the assumptions just ran wild.
I voted for Obama, campaigned for Obama and consider myself a Democrat, but if you cannot see that MSNBC has a liberal bias and FOX News has a conservative bias and that CNN, like the others, is sensationalized, corporate, ratings-and-profits crap, then you are blind.
voted for Obama, yes, MSNBC is for the liberals, Fox is for the Conservatives and CNN likes to play things and blow everything out of proportion...i.e. swine flu.
I just chose MSNBC cus Liberals make more sense :p
First assignment for fiscal conservatives in Washington:
1) Oppose the Democrats next stimulus boondoggle.
2) Oppose Obamas windfall profits tax proposal.
3) Oppose new bailouts for states deep in debt.
4) Oppose new foreclosure prevention measures that will simply provide perverse incentives for borrowers to walk away and delay a needed market correction.
5) No more federal loan guarantees for corporations (especially in light of this.
