  • Kubuntu 11.10 is where it's at.

  • I'm happy with GNU/Linux, the developers progress etc. But I am displeased with software written for it, clearly Adobe and Skype programmers have no clue how the video and audio environment works, they seem to have no idea how it sticks together. It's like if a lumberjack tried to do rocket science. Open-Source your crap, what you got to lose devs?

  • @MDxm3000 Well, that is an "over the top" comparative, and throws into doubt you actual level of knowledge. However, you are free to improve on the work of Adobe and Skype programmers and contribute to the "Open-Source" software, or you can just complain about applications programs. That doesn't reflect on the capabilities of the Linux OS; it reflects on YOU. What Linux give you is the ability to actually ALTER the OS (e.g. Android) as you work your genius. Try that with MS Windows???

  • with (arch) linux you get to use and customize you computer the way YOU want it, not the way other wanted to create it. linux is freedom.

  • I have to disagree... Linux is hardly altruistic. Developers scratch their own itch and write code to fulfill their own needs. On the other hand, they may be getting paid to write the code. In fact, most of the open code written nowadays is written by paid developers.

But why give the code away freely? Because the more people see and work on that code the better the program gets and that is to my benefit. Your gain is not my loss. We both gain.

    It's like a smile ;) Share it!

  • @Kidde15 from finland

  • @marofan123 From both really! Written in Finland, Swedish Heritage. From European Linux to a whole World of Linux.

  • @MDxm3000 Your forgetting the huge contributions of Canadians like Robert Young (founder of Red Hat) and his American colleagues and those of many other nations around the world. There's nothing "nationalistic" about Linux, and neither Linus Torvalds nor the GNU people, Stallmann and others started with a blank sheet.

  • @historatia That's what I said, from one European to THE WHOLE WORLD! :D and then, it all started with Unix and one guys quest to make something similar because of huge cost.

  • @MDxm3000 If you acknowledge that it started with "unix", then you should realize that Torwarlds didn't start this from scratch. I'm a former user of Interactive Unix on DEC equipment. Its important to recognize that Linux is one of a number of efforts to "emulate' Linux to avoid the legal issues of ownership. No disrespect to the streams that create Linux, I'm just adding the respect owed to its Unix forerunners inlcluding unix minix gnu etc, MANY people were on, and contributed to that quest.

  • @historatia Yes, but it wasn't actually called Linux before that, now was it. It would be like saying MS DOS was Windows 1 and Unix was Mac OS X. Just sayin'

  • @MDxm3000 What it was/is called is a matter of custom, (where GNU/Linux is a favourite, but plain Linux most common) but that's NOT what's important. Important is/are the concepts/implementations and the constant striving for a faster, richer more capable OS to serve as a platform for a growing mass of useful applications (like Android). I guess I just don't get your point. Mine is that all contributors deserve recognition. Its like a group writing a bible. impressive collaboration.

  • People always say Linux carnt be good if people dont get paied and i say some do if they work for Company like Novell & IBM and they go wow but they still miss the point of Linux

  • Ok not to be racist or anything but WTF WAS THAT GUY SAYING!!!!

  • @here2helps

How is that being racist? I couldn't really understand it either ^^.

  • long live Linux
