  • WHAT SOFTWARE U USE??..IT'S FREAKING COOL!1..PLEASE TELL ME TELL ME!!....I LOVE THIS SONG!!! IT'S DEDICATED TO MY......SECRET XDDD

  • @XXXdemonicAuraXXX i used cyberlink power director. ^_^ <3 it too much

  • I have read the Regina was singing about a friend who had Cancer and lost his hair and his battle with Cancer.

  • I always thought it was "I bared those scissors in the yellow light" not "a pair of dull scissors in the yellow light" hmm...

  • Tears of joy for the happiness I have with my one true love. Even though she currently lives thousands of miles away. I couldn't be happier with anyone else. This song is her song

  • @TheJimcasey123 so sweet,,, ^_^

  • @tw33tybird2010 Perhaps the chorus was meant to be interpreted as God's point of view.

  • My favorite<3<3<3

  • this song is amazing:)i love regina spektor

  • I love this song.

  • i don't think the Bible mentions Wonder Bread O_o haha i like this song

  • I think the song is about finding about someone who completely lets their guard down for you. In the song, Samson accepts that she cut all his hair off. He allowed her to leave him so vulnerable and still love the person the same. "And history books forgot about us, and the bible didn't mention us." - People only know Samson and Delilah as a story of deceit, but the line means that they never spoke about the love they had. "You are my sweetest downfall..." - Samson's perspective.

  • One of THE most inaccurate songs i have ever heard. The bible mentions samson and his story. He was gods sweetest down fall and then samson betrayed him. God loved him first.

  • regina spektor wasn't referring to Delilah at her song "Samson". it was about Delilah's servant, who loved Samson first. Delilah ordered her to cut Samson's hair cause she can't do it herself. that explains the line "the bible didn't even mention us, not even once." ♥

  • I'm so in love with this song. <3 Great job! :D

  • Broadwaybabe1515 is right.

  • where can i find the bible passage about samson and delilah??

sounds like a great story and totally love this song =D

  • @lilmissy97 "the bible didn't mention us"

  • @ MizzLM and nikkoftime

It's not actually about Samson and Delilah. She's merely using them to point out the parallels between their relationship and one that failed between herself and a lover. Of course, to me, it's about unrequited love

  • i really love this song. :))

  • Comment removed

  • I feel like crying.

there is just so much passion in her words and in her singing.

    a beautiful quite love story.

  • i can't stop listening to this

  • omg how scary are the people in the right down corner moving?? haha i thought I was going mad!! :D

  • I thought that perhaps when she says stuff like "the history books forgot about us and the bible didn't mention us" was more like whilst the bible does tell the story about Samson and Delilah it doesn't really tell their 'love story.' The bible focus more around the morale to the story and not their love? Just a thought.

  • I think that the sentence: "the history books forgot about us and the bible didn't mention us" speak about everyone from us - 6 miliard of ppl live on this earth, everyone will die and after some time majority of us will be forgotten, we won´t be mentioned anywhere. Just a thought :)

  • Delilah was hired to make him fall in love with her, and she does. In the end she begs the Philistines to release him, because in the end she does love him. They essentially laugh in her face before puppeting him around the city, telling him the truth about her, and then chaining him up to pillars. The song seems (to me) to be about a request for forgiveness and regret. Samson is the bigger person and forgives her for cutting his hair, because it was his personal weakness.

  • @kiraWTF interesting reply, the lyrics i first heard were 'i loved you first' thats what got me into finding out more about the song.

  • As I see it, this song is about how she imagined a different ending for their tragic romance. In this version, after she cuts his hair, he just eats a piece of bread, tells her it's okay, it's all right, nothing has changed. They make love and get a happy ending.

And in her version, the Bible doesn't even mention them because what she did didn't matter-- he didn't change history, and they just loved each other, quietly."

  • I think the narrator of this song-- Delilah-- is lamenting about what could have been. Because she secretly did love Samson. All of the stories say that Samson loved Delilah, and make no mention of her returning the feelings. The lyric "I loved you first" seems to imply that not only did she love him back, but she loved him before he even loved her.

  • I like the vid its cl and great song Thanks!

  • I think its about her friend that had cancer. She loved him before he died, she cut his hair for chemo, he didnt have strength to bring the columns down, hospital bills are paper and that could be her truth. She has to go because she can't bear to see him. He doesnt have long hair anymore. Also, regina's hair is red. A lot of her songs have hidden messages.

  • i think it is Delilah in the bible, or at least based on her and modernised (ate a slice of wonderbread)

i think its a song of love and regret for her actions, she cuts off his hair but they still 'cant pull the collumns down' (which is how samson dies in the bible)

I think regina has re-written the story and therefore its no longer important 'the bible didnt mention us' for Delilah didnt choose to betray samson.

    love love love.

  • The message is this...

We are important to each other, even if we don't know each other or aren't famous.

ofcourse I could be totally off. in which case disreguard this pertentious ramblings of an awe struck man.

  • well there isnt one set message it can be different to everyone so you not wrong :)

  • ok. my interpretation of this.

i just read the biblical story of Samson. interetsing.

i digress.... in the song she says "the bible didn't mention us"

    so it couldn't be delilah.

BUT in the story, Delilah has her servant cut off Samson's hair. it doesn't say if the servant is a male or female, but the song talks of Samson having to leave before morning..so no one would catch them?

    just my thought.

  • So regina is speaking in the point of view of the servant? That's actually a really good interpretation, because of that line "the bible didn't mention us" made it so it wasn't dalilah singing.

  • @nikkoftime I read a comment on her music video and supposedly there is a poem written by a girl whose boyfriend died of cancer and she wrote a poem called Samson about their relationship and Regina turned it into a song

  • -continued.

Reflects on the trust he had for her. Afterall, we wouldn't let just anyone cut our hair. :)

I hope this helps you in your idea of the song, but this is only my interpretation of it. ^^

  • hmm... i came here to hear a song that she always used to sing, but she sang it better. im disappointed

  • i love this song - i first head it at glasto! what is it all about tho? x

  • its based on the story of Samson and Delilah, from the bible, i think. Samson had unbeatable strength, and a king, unhappy that none of his men could defeat Samson, sent the evil tempress Delilah to find the place from which Samson's strength stemmed. She eventually persuaded him into telling her that his power was held in his long hair. Soon after this, Delilah cut off Samsons hair. The kings men came for him and tied him to a column. He had no more strength and was unable to bring it down.

  • But then he asked god to give him back his strength for one last time to smite those that were mocking him and god, and were torturing him, and so he got his strength back and tore down the columns and killed him and all that were tormenting him.

  • mm... read judges 16:30-- he brought the building down and killed all the Philistines

  • I think it's about a woman singing about the man she loved, who's no longer in her life, or who she's about to leave behind.

She recalls all the things she remembers about their love and how those things have changed; "They're just old light..."

    I think the lines:

"And history books forgot about us..." etc. means that although she considered their relationship so important, it was too easily forgotten.

And the bridge of the song: "Oh, I cut his hair myself one night-etc."

  • this is awesome!

  • It''s a live version, even better then the edit radio version

  • beautiful song...

quite confused about some of the lyrics though but still beautiful x

  • beautiful songgg!

  • A true classic...:)

  • nice song!

  • this isnt the version on her c.d :S

  • i think its in fact, about samson and delilah, but wen she said "the bible doesnt mentioned us", i think its about the love between samson and delilah.

the song says "i said i cutted his hair and he kiss me 'till the morning" or something like that, but the bible only says that delilah betrayed samson, and because of it, he lost. but, behind those facts, there its a love story, and nobody metioned that. but im not sure about it, i have other theories, but they didnt convence me at all...

  • i lurve lurve lurve this song so much. i cried when i first heard it on Amanda's iPod. -Ashleigh

  • personally i think its about samson from the bible, before his hair gave him strength. who said everyones love was written down ? if it was about samson and delilah, it wouldnt make sense, since she was mentioned in the bible on numerous occasions. i think this is about his first love, when everything was no big deal. she cut his hair, no big. and they didnt bring the columns down [[which he did]] . so...chyea. thats my opinion.

  • thats my opinion too. cheers =)

  • First off...Thank you very much for the video it's lovely! <3

I was wondering what type of trees those were in the video though...they're so breathtaking! At first I thought Cherry Blossoms...but I'm not sure so I figured I'd ask. ^.^

  • that would be hard to sing that song without crying, i mean for her at least

  • Regina always makes it clear that her songs are not autobiographical. As long as that's true, it shouldn't be very painful to sing this.

  • omg i love this song so much. a lot of meaning to me.

  • Isn't this about Samson and Delilah? About Delilah betraying Samson by cutting his hair because his strength was from his long hair... She was paid by the Philistines to find out his strength and to get rid of it. So she cut his hair.

  • I suppose you could say that, I think it is more a dig at the fact that there are more important things then moral lessons, like a love story. Christians might see the story and believe in God, Regina heard the story and believed in people. I tend to agree with her on this one.

  • Ditto.

  • @MizzLM you are correct!
