He's referring to the Supernatural TV series. Its a show where 2 brothers take down ghosts, monsters, and demons. Some of their weapons are things like sawed off shotguns filled with rocksalt rounds (good for dispelling ghosts), and other stuff.

Don't give me that "because they're monsters" line because the same thing happens in games even when the bad guys AREN'T monsters. I mean, REALLY NOW! in real like, armor-piercing rounds punch a hole in a dude and not have it hurt. But two shots WILL down a dude.
