I have similar motors but i cant get them up to that high speed,in higher speed they stop and just sounds like wiiiii.. its maybe couse i have to low voltage, i wonder how high voltage you put in that motor?
I put 72V :-) I drove with a chopping, bipolar, microstep driver.
I guess my voltage is higher :-)
That's not the fastes stepper I drove, look at 3Nm FAST motor. That motor, I drove at 72V, is insulated up to 600V, should try to drive it at 300V, some day, just for the fun of it... when I think I'm ready to face that high voltages in my projects.
They don't (not SO hot), if chopping driver is good and limits current to nominal value (4,2A for my motor). With chopping drive, the more resistive torque, the more they heat. Up to 80°C, you're safe, and 80°C is normal with old drivers (not chopping). My motors are at 40-50°C during use. I consider them NOT hot.
Do You make these motor test in G-codes and after that run in CNC control program or what? I want to test my L297+L298 board, with test like this. It would be great if You explain me...
Yes, I wrote a GCode by hand for these tests. I used Mach3 by artsoft to run the gcode on a PC, and bipolar powerful electronics with integrate controller and discrete HBridge by myself to drive the motors, connected to PC parallel port. Just look at my site for some electronic projects by me.

The sounds it makes are great :]
which allegro chip are you using here?

A3986 + discrete mosfet h bridge

At high speeds when you cut the power it automatically stops?
molinobeer 1 year ago
Power supply is always on to keep motor in position. It's the step pulse train that stops.
I never tried to switch power off at high speeds, but I think motor will slow down and then stop after energy gets dissipated in output stage diodes.

what is driver you use?
nhatsonelec 3 years ago
I built it myself. It has 2 discrete mosfet H-Bridges and an allegro chip to drive them.

how much does such a motor cost ?

Haha this sounds like a robot :D Great dude, although I don't like stepper motors.

But when i drive mu motor on 32 volts it get really hot, i cant tuch it, if it stay still, lower temp if its moving, hmm dont your motors get warm?
