The Korean national team was relatively weak compared to other countries and he couldn't really carry the team to glory. But if he had the team that Korea has today, then maybe Korea would be among the top 20 in the world. wishful thinking though.

I'm Saudi, but do not think Majed Abdullah is No.1 in Asia. But have to say, Abdullah is one of the most talented player Asia have ever produced. He led Saudi Arabia to AFC Cup in 1984 for first time and was top scorer in Saudi league 6 times. He is legend, you can check his videos. Cha is great player. I love the Bundesliga, so I have good knowledge about Cha. In my opinion, he is the best Asian player have ever played in Europe. No one close to him, NO ONE.

here in Germany, a lot of people from that time remember Cha very well. He's legendary international football player. much respect from Germany.

그의 그늘에 가리워져 만년 2인자였었던 사람이 허정무 현재 감독이었죠.

국가대표 감독으로 1998년 프랑스 월드컵 본선에서 두 경기를 지자 축구협회는 현지에서 그를 해임시켜버렸지만...

월드컵 본선진출 가능성이 희박했던 당시 국가대표팀 감독을 맡자마자..지역예선 7경기 전승을 일궈 본선진출 시켰던 감독이었습니다.

아마 차범근 감독이 아니었으면 그 당시 우리나라는 월드컵 본선진출은 꿈도 못꾸었을겁니다....

For a 1998 World Cup Qualifier match, he took the Korean team to Uzbekistan. There he was re-united with a Korean couple who had moved there. This couple found Cha passed out on the street, after his high school training session. He had trained hard but he came from poor home, so was not well nourished. They revived and saved him. How things may have been had they not been there.

I love how people in Germany remember him so fondly, even to this day. This man is a National Treasure.
