@sonybanez C'est évident que Coltrane était un des meilleurs de tout le temps mais Brecker jouait cette chanson aussi bien que Coltrane. Il y a beaucoup de notes mais coltrane faisait la meme chose. On l'appelle "sheets of sound".

I hate when people say that brecker and coltrane play to many notes, i mean melodies are great an all the sheets of sound is really the only unexplored territory.. theres melody in tons of notes its like modal melody

I love this version of Impressions so much!!! These cats are playing up tempo and swingin big time and, Michael Breaker plays his a-- off!!! When I am not homeless anymore and I am able to hook up all my music gear and record again, I will post a new Hank Corvinus Version of Impressions on to my MySpace Music and maybe post a you tube if I can come up with a camera of some kind. Brecker is listed in an earlier "book of jazz history as a "popular" post-bop tenor player "who plays with a lot of emotion". as if that was anything but the point. Who are the ignorant tone-deaf fuckers who write this stuff? Tthey couldn't even pick up a tenor at the right end. Even 20 years ago, I thought there's no-one on the planet that comes close. Not original? Just look at the prodigious compositions. Coltrane-clone? Gimme a break. The pupil sometimes surpasses the teacher.

That's true, he plays after the bop era (post-bop) he's a tenor player, he plays with a lot of emotion, and he is insanely popular... what is your point, i find the discription quite accurate.

There's no "surpassing" to be done. They have similar styles but I don't think one could judge which one was "better". If you prefer Brecker, that's cool, but when musicians play on that level, it's impossible and pointless to argue over who is better. That said, I agree that saying he's not original and that he was a Coltrane clone is about as retarded a thing a person could say.

Yes he learned about jazz but he was into the funk-jazz with his brother Randy. Can you compare and apple and a pear? Can you compare Mike and Coltrane? Yeah. They both played Tenor. They both play jazz. They both took their playing to another level. But they do not sound the same. They do not play the same. And he isn't a clone.
