  • We know direct hard eye contact is unfriendly, but we know dogs can give us eye contact when they are paying attention to us. The last clip is to show what "soft eye contact" looks like. For hard eye contact, see my video on stress signals in dogs.

  • Calming signals seen in this video are: head turn, sniffing, shaking off, urination, splitting.

  • Polite greetings & play in dogs is very much a ritualistic dance...if you learn to watch for calming signals, you will know how well the interaction is going. Avoiding direct hard stares is critical in maintaining peace in the language of dogs.
