I thought payload & access would be the reason. In Australia these units can travel on any single trailer (semi) route, otherwise known as general access. Payload wise, it'd be able to carry more than a bdouble, not in terms of cubic capacity but in terms of mass. Have a look at some western Australia videos. They yow road trains with twin steer bogie/tri drive body trucks & prime movers
Hi mates. I am an ex truck driver from Europe and I have a question. Can anyone please tell me where or how the drawbar combination consisting of 4 axle truck and 4 axle trailer behind makes sense? It seems to me it is an exclusive New Zealand specification in road transport and I was just wondering is there any specific reason for it?
um well i dont really know myself really its just how its all ways been.
i know the 4 axle truck and 4axle trailer unit doesnt cut corners like a b train or a quad.another reason is you can get more pallets on a unit like this.this one is a 30 pallet,nt sure if you can on a b or a quad maybe 28 i think.on a tipper you can jacknife the trailer to tip the truck load off without unhooking the trailer
@kimyoungandsons Thanks mate I kinda thought the reason is maneuverability and payload. But I think the best answer is really yours "its just how its all ways been" :)) Anyway they really look great so that should be enough for a truck fan ;) Cheers mate :)
@truck3rider It all started out by the govt gathering tax, put an extra axle under the trailer and you could carry more load for a similar amount of road tax. Trucks went from 3 axles to 4 for the same reason. Thats why you now see 4 axles under a Tracter unit and 4 axles under a semi
