i read on wiki that she was a violin student at a Russian conservatory, but she had bone problems because of malnutrition as a child, and had to stop the violin. Also, Theremin himself proposed to her!! i can see and hear why!
Postmortem THANKS to the memory of Mr. Robert Moog (google "robert bob moog).
YOU made and preserved and presented this video.
And, so far, your heirs have allowed this series of non-copyright-compliant videos, to remain up on YT, to move poor people to tears by their sheer beauty of truth and honesty, just as you and Clara would have wanted: up for all to see, forever and plus a day. THANK YOU, survivors of the late, great Robert Moog, whom I can say, was my friend, indeed.
Wonderful, as always. She uses the forward-tilted volume loop and the speaker directly behind her head to do what Sanjosemike notices - trimming the pitch to the correct note as the volume rises (after shooting her fingers into the open loop) before the audience notices, if it's at all off.
Thank god for youtube. o.o I'm very moved to see the original great Thereminist. I don't believe anyone could argue the instrument is only a toy, after seeing this.
oh my goodness.... it's ... breathtaking... that theremin... she made it sing... weeping like a violin. I'm sorry for all the ellipses--I'm just overwhelmed, totally amazed! THIS IS INCREDIBLE!
Absolutely amazing. I had no idea. I've seen people play the theremin with large movements of their arms and hands, it's incredible what she has done.
Mrs. Rockmore made magic happen here with that instrument- varying between being a human soprano, violin and musical saw! Almost invisible finger movements kept everything flawlessly flowing. Also, her sister Nadia Reisenberg's piano accompaniment was quite stirring, too. I really liked how these ladies were visibly moved by the song they performed and used it to hone their perfect harmony. Thanks for sharing this!
Anyone who doesn't know what a theremin is and doens't realise why she is fiddling with her fingers...woudl think she's humming it...that's what i thought at first...but then discovered that a theremin is an instrument that she is playing...amazing!
I cried a bit . You get that with rachmaninov , but ms rockmore must have been especially adept to achieve this performance on such a tricky instrument .

Absolutely lovely. I think one of the best combination of instruments is the Theremin and the Piano. The beauty and sound is unbeatable.

Is that a travel alarm clock on the piano?
Doki66 2 years ago
@Doki66, pardon my delay in reply. It is an electric metronome, of a sort made in the forties or fifties. I used to visit Clara....

She 's great she plays with musicality and with no problems of intonation
For what i've heard 'till now she the only one.
Great musician.

Although it was nearly twenty year later to be, THIS is the Clara I knew.
Google "reid welch clara rockmore".
Here she performs as she was: a musician of the highest order on =the most difficult instrument to master, ever=.
She is The Master of the theremin;
this is her, in her home.
I knew the home, just as you see it here.
In the background is a portrait of her decades-long friend, Mr. Paul Robeson.
If Clara and Paul could smile today,
they would smile upon this effort to GIVE FREE

You have to stand like that when you play the theremin; it's sensitive to any movement.

Deeply moving. Rockmore speaks to our souls. Rachmaninov would have been pleased.
