2 things Ive down TKD for 5 years got my black belt and sparred in national fights.i can tell u that so called black belt in TKD does not know what the hell hes doing and i met ryron last night!
@mndeg bjj doesnt have many takedownss or throws, for self defense youll have no trouble getting them down after the clinch. For sportfighting bjj is weak standing and lots of schools dont even stand up spar or do uchikomi.Royce would be screwed in todays mma because of his lack of takedowns and striking, hed have to pull guard and get beat up there evry round
not everyone..the thing about tkd is it's more of a sport than anything else...but bjj is starting to lean more in that direction too..i still think bjj is more of a martial art and is more self-defense and realistic, though. that is exactly what gracie jj tries to instill
@LookitsLolWizard bjj isnt in the east bit realistic in 90% of schools ,its all sport rules,no striking,no stand up.Only the gracie academy and a few isolated coaches teach the real fighting anymore.Grappling in general is not a complete or safe style for the street, its good for certain situations only and plain stupid in others.Because gjj is so effective in match fights, people have been mislead into thinking thats self defense
@Newplayerinthegame several in high school but I was just a kickboxer then.Since I started grappling twice which were assaults not fights as such, neither involved grappling because I hit first. In the past decade Ive never met anything I couldnt avoid or talk out of and dont go to nightclubs or bars where trouble starts. Most adults dont get into fights if theyre smart.Grappling is a damn stupid option in crowded places where who knows how many accomplices there are.
@Newplayerinthegame the bottom line is that gjj was never a good self defense system,it is a match fight system, the type of thing seen in immature highschool kids and macho brazilians, its all about ego.It assumes no weapons, only 1 opponent, both parties square off,a clear area to fight in.These things rarely happen .Real fights are assualts preceeded by dialogue and a sucker punch, ambushes and multiple attackers, knives are commonplace.I love wrestling and bjj and have for about 15 yrs by the way
i took tkd as a 12 yr old kid and always knew grappling was WAY more effective in real fights! my best friend who was wrestling would take me down all the time! but this dude is fuckin' sorry! he didnt throw a single kick or punch!! at least go in for the kill and get tapped out with some heart lol. GJJ all the way!!
one thing that's great about strikers is that once they go to the ground they suddenly think they're grapplers. but they do it all wrong trying to use strength and power because they have NO technique. they defeat themselves.via exhaustion.
@Obobbyss in all fairness any grappler could have destroyed that guy,he wasnt trying to fightt in the first place, eddie bravo would have done the same to him
@pistolero2007lv So Anderson Silva's a fag? Because he has a tkd background... You can knock the martial artist but don't knock the martial arts brah.
I don't think we have to call the TKD practitioner (if he even is that) a fag. Plenty of people bought into traditional martial arts, unfortunately - and there is some value there anyway. And guys like Herb Perez are monster athletes. But, anyway, go Rener - he, Ralek, and Kron are my favorites.
i couldnt agree with that more. if you really want to beat someone that does gracie juijitsu youd have to do a lot of mixed martial arts, or get a luck punch
belts are irrelevant, its experience in competive grappling art that matters. Both sakraba, hughes and fedor have more experience than many bjj black belts and are very good athletes also.
lets see anybody try to fight four fighters at once. if your are fighting more then one opponent you are fucked regardless of what style you practice.
BJJ is the best on the ground because of there positioning. and Hoyce Gracie shows a ton of videos that proves that Bjj can fight street worthy. But a guy by the name of Fedor could beat anybody on the street. Hands down.
fedor could beat anybody, but then again he comes from a judo and sambo background.bjj is derrived from judo so fedor has a similar base art as the gracies. hes just more of a freak of nature.
Easier said than done mndeg. I've seen fight after fight, double leg after double leg, and rarely have I seen any shots landed. Two or three times have I seen knees connect, and these are in fights where a takedown is suspected, and the person who lands the shot is a professional who has practiced again and again. Not only that, that are many many ways to take someone down besides the double and single leg.
well he sucked so that shows his tkd back ground. im not knocking on the korean tkd guys, but here in the states all traditional martial arts are a watered down joke.
@ozzycrue tkd is a joke in korea as well,it always was.The itf which is the original tkd has never been watered down,it was always crap in the first place
That is Rener and the TKD guy in this fight was testing the effectiveness of BJJ for his wife to take lessons to defend herself. I grew up in Baltimore and I noticed that street fights always went to the ground as soon as the losing guy in standup got knocked around a little and went for the takedown. A man that is scared will kill you faster than a man that's just angry. Bottom line is, Royce Gracie proved what style is most effective, how many times? Rickson? over 600 fights, no losses. hmmmmm
its not at all natural to block a punch on the street, mostly its 100% attack without any regard for defense, were not talking trained men here, thats why boxing is /has been effective without resorting to tying yourself up with 1 man on the ground.
And what the hell do you know about fighting on the street? Grappling is going to be the most effective way to take down a single, even armed, attacked if you're jumped on the street. And, if it was "100% attack," no defense, as you claim, then people would be knocked out on the first punch. If you knew anything about street fighting, side stepping and light blocks are extremely common. The only time, if you're trained in standup and ground, to use standup is when you're outnumbered.
why would you not KO him if you could standing up,it would be much quicker.I assume your talking about gratuitous assault or mugging.Blocking doesnt occur with untrained people, flinching, backpedalling does.Thats my experience, yours may be different.
If you're a weaker guy your chances of knocking the other guy out is far slimmer than him knocking you out. You might say if you're weak then you should run but if the other guy catches up to you guess what he's going to do to make sure you don't run again? Throw you to the floor and brings back to using Jiu-Jitsu against a stronger guy
thats true, especially if your being attacked by a larger opponent. a 100 pound girl has very slim to no chance of stopping a determined 200 pound attacker with a punch or kick, short of a ballshot or maybe an eye gouge. with superior grappling skill, like bjj, that girls chances would exponentially increase, especially if her attacker has no wrestling backround
billysue you cannot be more wrong boxing in a street fight would get owned I have wrestled and done just about every martial art to some extent my cousin is a pro boxer and on many occasions I have easily whooped his ass with minimal difficulty using my takedowns then submitting him in a matter of seconds you must have no skills b/c if you were anything near a decent grappler you could do the same.
i was responding to a post that claimed everything other than bjj and thai was useless.I know grappling will most often beat the pure striker but punching and KOing the untrained attacker is preferable to grappling him, grappling should be a back up outside the dojo or reserved for 1 on 1.
Just putting in that you gotta remember that if a person is a lot stronger than you, then not only does he have more power to KO you, but he also is a lot better at taking punishment too so that diminishes your ability to KO him even further. On the ground, that kind of advantage for stronger guy gets diminished.
its ridiculous for the gracie academy to post this vid on their site.A terribly poorly prepared amateur with no grappling fighting a world class grappler .What is their point? We'll have to wait and see what rorians kids can do in mma if they ever risk it.
you havent been watching mma in the last 5 years then, bjj world champions have been owned in the ring/cage sometimes.Royler, royce, renzo, ryan, saulo, gonzaga, garcia have all lost .Bjj is only part of an mma fight.
i didnt mean they always win like in professional fighting!!!
ex: UFC, Pride, EliteXC, IFL, etc.
in mma i kno even rorian's kida should have some standup and even boxers and kickboxers should have grappling training. but i meant that a 'tae kwon do master' is nothing in the street. it may be effective against another tkd guy or karate guy but in these challenge matches people tried to pull off, bjj will almost always beat a tkd guy. i think this is a wonderful example of bjj in the streets.
Oh, come on. If someone takes a kick to the head from a TKD master on the street, they aren't getting back up. Likewise, shin kicks to the thigh and upper arm will discourage people greatly.
In my opinion, the match was imbalanced in favor of Ryron in the first place-- tae kwon do does alot more standup than grappling, so Ryron *should* win.
i kno that but i mean in the street ur not gonna find a sword or ninja star or six foot pole or nun-chuks like they train in tkd. of course if anybody gets kicked in the head but if u had real good skill, u would go for the single-leg or double-leg and close the distance before the dude has a chance to kick u in the head.
Six foot pole? Try broom handle. Numchucks? Random piece of chain. Ninja star? Nice try, that's not tae kwon do. Tae kwon do is centered mostly around strikes, not weapons. Lean what the hell you're talking about before you open your mouth next time.
dude one of my best friends is a black belt in tkd and he said that they did a lot of training with nun-chuks, and staffs, and knifes, and ninja stars. i never said anything about a 'random piece of chain' and i never said it wasn't about strikes, i just said that a lot of what they do is with weapons not everthing but i kno they do strikes. wut im trying to say is that in the modern world, training with obsolete weapons is not true self-defense.
Look up the classification of tae kwon do. They train MAINLY with strikes, and dip into weapons occasionally. I took 3 years of tae kwon do. If your "friend" is in tae kwon do, he shouldn't be doing much with weapons, assuming it's actually tae kwon do, and not some bullshit ripoff that tries to pass itself as a martial art.
neither of the 2 world governing bodies use weapons, and ive trained tkd for 16 years.I box,wrestle/bjj and mma now for the past few years but I strongly disagree with a lot of rorians hype re the superiority of gjj.
if you go for the takedown, double leg or single leg. you're going to get an elbow to the back of the head or the spine. you could be paralyzed and at the least rendered unable to fight. BJJ is just a sport.
but, if it were a street fight and your oppenent was in toxicated, he would not be thinking correctly and may not be able to hit you and there are many other takedowns besides double and single leg that should be in a bjj fighters repertiore. bjj is not just a sport. i hav gotten into fights at skool and eaily taken people to the ground and controlled them until they gave up and i have also beat tdk blackbelts who i have trained with who came in to challenge a bjj fighter.
you think single or double legs are the only way to take someone down? you should attend a wrestling or judo seminar.
You think people will have time to elbow you when they are busy getting dumped on their heads? Then how come Royce never had that happen to him back in 93 when there were no rules?
okay dude i know. many of the gracies would not be 'champions' in modern mma. im wasn't talking about mma. i was talking about a street fight between a dude who trains strictly bjj and another dude who trains strictly tkd.
BJJ is the best by far cmon you guys must be idiots if you think any other martial art can compare. With all seriousness other types of martial arts except Muay Thai are completely garbage and unpractical.
western boxing is the most commonly used style in mma or fights anywhere is that useless?or wrestling?Your comments are incredibly naive considering the amount of proof to the contrary.
But back to the video...he is a pussy, he didn't even attempt to hit Ryron...unless they restricted it to all grappling, then he would definitely be screwed. Especially on the ground. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is definitely a great martial art to use when a person is on the ground because they can get them no matter what.
Well, either way, he didn't even attempt to hit Ryron. But...to comment on the Taekwondo kicks being the most powerful...I'm sorry, but it would be Muay Thai kicks being the most powerful. However, I do have to say Taekwondo is quicker at multiple kicks and they are more controlled than Muay Thai.
i used to train tkd, and some muay thai and kickboxing teachers trained there to get more power in their kicks...since then i've trained some boxing and muay thai...tkd has most powerful kick techniques...it's not useless. bjj is useless once a person knows how to defend against it. chuck lidell
No style is ever useless even if a person knows how to defend against it. Because by having to defend against anything, renders the defender distracted from offence. But if I were to go on your rationale, which I find elementary. Any style would be "useless," if a person knows how to defend against it. Nice attempt at trying to make BJJ look bad though.
you find it rather elementary eh? maybe because you'rea douch...bjj guys put down other martial arts all the time...guess what bjj is not the supreme martial art..and by posting a vid of some useless fighter getting owned in a jj studio means nothing. ps. you're an idiot
Yes BJJ guys do. As well as kung fu guys, tkd guys, karate guys, kickboxing guys. I never said BJJ was the supreme martial art. Because there is no such thing. Once again elementary. Even more so now that you had to resort to name calling.
Hard to believe this is still happening in 2006. Has the TKD guy not heard of the internet? Watch some of these fights and see how they go down. At least start striking with kicks from distance and desperately avoid the takedown at all costs. I mean, this is Ryron of course so it was over before it began.
The TKD man's girlfriend was going sign up for a self-defense class at the Gracie Academy. He didn't believe in Gracie Jiu-jitsu, so he wanted to fight a Gracie to make sure it was legitimate. There is no showing off here. The TKD guy wanted to see if he could beat up a Gracie. He failed miserably. End of story.
he had no chance and he wasnt even striking or kicking the only thing he did was waiting for defeat in mma you need to know how to fight standing clincing and on the ground you will not be succesfull without one of these
TKD sucks. It's only good for competitions. I studied Isshinryu for 22 years and I can tell you throwing kicks is stupid unless you KNOW it's going to land or you're utilizing it to set-up a take down. I've learned more in the past 3 days of watching Gracie Academy shorts than I ever did in a jui jitsu class.
i never get why these traditional martial arts guys will never admit that you need to know how to grapple. all grapplers know how important knowing how to strike is. i dont know if its ego, or just stupidity.
TKD is useless...you'll know who is a good fighter once they arein a ring with professionalls. this video proves nothing, just another of evidence of how faggy TKD is
Roger is the only Gracie who can actually be a top 5 or even a champ. So spare us your gay affection for the gracies and go watch some mma you stupid tuf noob.
Oh don't forget Crosley. He has potential. People say his figth against Melvin and automaticlaly say "he sucks", but he took that fight in 2 DAYS. I have yet to see a fighter take down a good fighter with just a 2 day notificaiton. I mean he submitted Hayato Sakurai and beat pancrease champ Kiuma Kunioku (in his debut fight)...so I think he has potential.
Dynomifag, all those gracies are non top20 fighters. They'd get their ass whooped badly by any top of UFC/Pride. Rickson would get killed by sakuraba any time. Hughes taught royce a lesson. Tokoro (a small guy) beat the shit out of royler and royce. F. Shamrock killed cesar gracie. Renzo had to fake an injury to get the DQ. It's plain to see that you're the noob here.
That is only because all the current MMA fighters now take Gracie Jujitsu as part of their regimen. It is true that a fighter that knows how to strike and grapple is very likely to beat a fighter that can only grapple. Try and name 1 ufc or pfc fighter who has had any success at all who has not had some training in bjj.
Only Roger Gracie is good enough to be successful in mma. Ryron and any other gracie would get his ass whooped by any top mma fighter. They look good against newbs but they look like noobs against pros like matt hughes.
Roger Gracie only won 1 fight in MMA. And lots of gracies a good MMA fighters ex: Renzo, Rickson(11-0),Ryan, Rodrigo,Ralph!!! why dont you watch more MMA you noob
Allow groin kicks, spearhands, headbutts, biting, fishooks etc etc, in short a real 'no rules' fight -very different outcome! Are you guys even aware how open you are to mauling attacks on the ground? Typical of the Gracies to put a 'rigged' challenge match as evidence of their' superiority'! They have now been beaten a number of times in MMA and 'ducked' a number of fights, You still buy this bullshit? It's 2007 not 1993, and no one is intimidated by their 'invincibility myth'.
It is true that their are many ways of hurting an inexperienced grappler on the floor, but any decent grappler is entirely and completely aware of the possibility of dirty striking on the floor. All of the following things which you stated are also MUch easier for a bjj/sambo/wrestling guy to do to someone with no experience. It is MUCH easier for a mounted person to eye gouge you than vice versa. Any bjj place teaches postion then submission.
Anybody that knows Rener and his brother Ryon also knows they are some of the best Gracie Fighters. Watch out when they start competing in Pride and the UFC!
BUT LIKE EVERY FIGHT...IT'S WHOEVER COMES ON TOP AT THE END...BECOMES THE WINNER. So that blue belt won even though he got hurt a little. That shows the effectivness of GJJ, a blue belt beating a TKD black belt.
What they didn't show was a BLUE BELT (not a gracie, but a studuent) about the same height and weight, going against the TKD guy. And he got the TKD guy in an armbar (like the 1st move Rener got the TKD guy in). But the blue belt didn't leave without getting hurt in the process, the TKD dude threw him hurting his neck and stuff.
The TKD guy's wife got attacked recently and that he was considering enrolling her in our Women Empowered course. He mentioned he was a taekwondo practitioner and that he wasn't convinced of the effectiveness of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. So he wanted to fight a Gracie to see if GJJ was as good as everyone made it out to be.
TKD is the best MA it goes over submissions, fighting, and even how to break you attackers arm in the middle of the fight.

you havent been watching mma in the last 5 years then, bjj world champions have been owned in the ring/cage sometimes.Royler, royce, renzo, ryan, saulo, gonzaga, garcia have all lost .Bjj is only part of an mma fight.
billysue2 3 years ago
i didnt mean they always win like in professional fighting!!!
ex: UFC, Pride, EliteXC, IFL, etc.
in mma i kno even rorian's kida should have some standup and even boxers and kickboxers should have grappling training. but i meant that a 'tae kwon do master' is nothing in the street. it may be effective against another tkd guy or karate guy but in these challenge matches people tried to pull off, bjj will almost always beat a tkd guy. i think this is a wonderful example of bjj in the streets.
stullcasa 3 years ago
Oh, come on. If someone takes a kick to the head from a TKD master on the street, they aren't getting back up. Likewise, shin kicks to the thigh and upper arm will discourage people greatly.
In my opinion, the match was imbalanced in favor of Ryron in the first place-- tae kwon do does alot more standup than grappling, so Ryron *should* win.
InsanePower 3 years ago
i kno that but i mean in the street ur not gonna find a sword or ninja star or six foot pole or nun-chuks like they train in tkd. of course if anybody gets kicked in the head but if u had real good skill, u would go for the single-leg or double-leg and close the distance before the dude has a chance to kick u in the head.
stullcasa 3 years ago
Six foot pole? Try broom handle. Numchucks? Random piece of chain. Ninja star? Nice try, that's not tae kwon do. Tae kwon do is centered mostly around strikes, not weapons. Lean what the hell you're talking about before you open your mouth next time.
InsanePower 3 years ago
dude one of my best friends is a black belt in tkd and he said that they did a lot of training with nun-chuks, and staffs, and knifes, and ninja stars. i never said anything about a 'random piece of chain' and i never said it wasn't about strikes, i just said that a lot of what they do is with weapons not everthing but i kno they do strikes. wut im trying to say is that in the modern world, training with obsolete weapons is not true self-defense.
stullcasa 3 years ago
Look up the classification of tae kwon do. They train MAINLY with strikes, and dip into weapons occasionally. I took 3 years of tae kwon do. If your "friend" is in tae kwon do, he shouldn't be doing much with weapons, assuming it's actually tae kwon do, and not some bullshit ripoff that tries to pass itself as a martial art.
InsanePower 3 years ago
neither of the 2 world governing bodies use weapons, and ive trained tkd for 16 years.I box,wrestle/bjj and mma now for the past few years but I strongly disagree with a lot of rorians hype re the superiority of gjj.
billysue2 3 years ago
if you go for the takedown, double leg or single leg. you're going to get an elbow to the back of the head or the spine. you could be paralyzed and at the least rendered unable to fight. BJJ is just a sport.
mndeg 3 years ago
but, if it were a street fight and your oppenent was in toxicated, he would not be thinking correctly and may not be able to hit you and there are many other takedowns besides double and single leg that should be in a bjj fighters repertiore. bjj is not just a sport. i hav gotten into fights at skool and eaily taken people to the ground and controlled them until they gave up and i have also beat tdk blackbelts who i have trained with who came in to challenge a bjj fighter.
stullcasa 3 years ago
not if you keep your head in tight.most of the people on the street dont know how to throw an elbow anyway.
ozzycrue 3 years ago
@mndeg
you think single or double legs are the only way to take someone down? you should attend a wrestling or judo seminar.
You think people will have time to elbow you when they are busy getting dumped on their heads? Then how come Royce never had that happen to him back in 93 when there were no rules?
ronhudsonjr 1 year ago
@mndeg You are a moron.
phys1c 1 year ago
okay dude i know. many of the gracies would not be 'champions' in modern mma. im wasn't talking about mma. i was talking about a street fight between a dude who trains strictly bjj and another dude who trains strictly tkd.
stullcasa 3 years ago
BJJ is the best by far cmon you guys must be idiots if you think any other martial art can compare. With all seriousness other types of martial arts except Muay Thai are completely garbage and unpractical.
boodaddy74 4 years ago
whats wrong with sambo? judo? i mean i love bjj to death but saying all other arts are shit is a bit to much.
ozzycrue 3 years ago
western boxing is the most commonly used style in mma or fights anywhere is that useless?or wrestling?Your comments are incredibly naive considering the amount of proof to the contrary.
billysue2 3 years ago
The hell? Both of them had one tap out, how exactly do they call that a win? Hell, where I come from, if you tap, you lose completely...
InsanePower 4 years ago
Are you a moron?
billysue2 3 years ago
Is that a black belt that TKD guy is wearing?
'Cause his stance is all wrong.
In sparring, TKD hop on their toes most of the time. And we don't grapple much.
We mainly use kicks.
bandit1429 4 years ago
Thats Rener not Ryron.
tro1000 4 years ago
But back to the video...he is a pussy, he didn't even attempt to hit Ryron...unless they restricted it to all grappling, then he would definitely be screwed. Especially on the ground. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is definitely a great martial art to use when a person is on the ground because they can get them no matter what.
ReijiTaro 4 years ago
Well, either way, he didn't even attempt to hit Ryron. But...to comment on the Taekwondo kicks being the most powerful...I'm sorry, but it would be Muay Thai kicks being the most powerful. However, I do have to say Taekwondo is quicker at multiple kicks and they are more controlled than Muay Thai.
ReijiTaro 4 years ago
i used to train tkd, and some muay thai and kickboxing teachers trained there to get more power in their kicks...since then i've trained some boxing and muay thai...tkd has most powerful kick techniques...it's not useless. bjj is useless once a person knows how to defend against it. chuck lidell
allBthere 4 years ago
No style is ever useless even if a person knows how to defend against it. Because by having to defend against anything, renders the defender distracted from offence. But if I were to go on your rationale, which I find elementary. Any style would be "useless," if a person knows how to defend against it. Nice attempt at trying to make BJJ look bad though.
r4nd0m4n0nym0u5 4 years ago
you find it rather elementary eh? maybe because you'rea douch...bjj guys put down other martial arts all the time...guess what bjj is not the supreme martial art..and by posting a vid of some useless fighter getting owned in a jj studio means nothing. ps. you're an idiot
allBthere 4 years ago
Yes BJJ guys do. As well as kung fu guys, tkd guys, karate guys, kickboxing guys. I never said BJJ was the supreme martial art. Because there is no such thing. Once again elementary. Even more so now that you had to resort to name calling.
r4nd0m4n0nym0u5 4 years ago
Hard to believe this is still happening in 2006. Has the TKD guy not heard of the internet? Watch some of these fights and see how they go down. At least start striking with kicks from distance and desperately avoid the takedown at all costs. I mean, this is Ryron of course so it was over before it began.
Soamsey 4 years ago
I'm not sure the black guy really uses or practises TKD. I don't see a single TKD technique whatsoever.
Second, he looks a lot smaller.
Combined this turns out more of a showoff, not a match.
Lastly, it's really immature to put 'fag' in the clip name.
RonnieRocker 4 years ago
The TKD man's girlfriend was going sign up for a self-defense class at the Gracie Academy. He didn't believe in Gracie Jiu-jitsu, so he wanted to fight a Gracie to make sure it was legitimate. There is no showing off here. The TKD guy wanted to see if he could beat up a Gracie. He failed miserably. End of story.
shodhead 4 years ago
he had no chance and he wasnt even striking or kicking the only thing he did was waiting for defeat in mma you need to know how to fight standing clincing and on the ground you will not be succesfull without one of these
stevenjonis 4 years ago
every art is that way.if more than one person attacks you your fucked without a gun or knife, ect.
ozzycrue 4 years ago
HERMESTHRICEGREATEST 4 years ago
i never get why these traditional martial arts guys will never admit that you need to know how to grapple. all grapplers know how important knowing how to strike is. i dont know if its ego, or just stupidity.
ozzycrue 4 years ago
TKD is useless...you'll know who is a good fighter once they arein a ring with professionalls. this video proves nothing, just another of evidence of how faggy TKD is
rosfa222 4 years ago
The TKD guy is a loser. And its much smaller than BJJ guy.
ronaldogazel 4 years ago
i wouldnt say smaller just shorter. he looks a bit more stocky .
ozzycrue 4 years ago
stupid tae kwon do... that guy didn't even do shit... he stood there and walked around and let Rener take him... how weak.
dreamdigital85 4 years ago
just so you know..this is Rener Gracie.
Spdrcrfatty 4 years ago
Roger is the only Gracie who can actually be a top 5 or even a champ. So spare us your gay affection for the gracies and go watch some mma you stupid tuf noob.
rygarr 5 years ago
whoa, ralph and ryan could be champs at their weight too. ryan would probably be a top 5 fighter now if he hadn't shot himself in the leg.
Spdrcrfatty 5 years ago
Why did Ryan do that?
Oh don't forget Crosley. He has potential. People say his figth against Melvin and automaticlaly say "he sucks", but he took that fight in 2 DAYS. I have yet to see a fighter take down a good fighter with just a 2 day notificaiton. I mean he submitted Hayato Sakurai and beat pancrease champ Kiuma Kunioku (in his debut fight)...so I think he has potential.
lyricallyundefined 4 years ago
Dynomifag, all those gracies are non top20 fighters. They'd get their ass whooped badly by any top of UFC/Pride. Rickson would get killed by sakuraba any time. Hughes taught royce a lesson. Tokoro (a small guy) beat the shit out of royler and royce. F. Shamrock killed cesar gracie. Renzo had to fake an injury to get the DQ. It's plain to see that you're the noob here.
rygarr 5 years ago
That is only because all the current MMA fighters now take Gracie Jujitsu as part of their regimen. It is true that a fighter that knows how to strike and grapple is very likely to beat a fighter that can only grapple. Try and name 1 ufc or pfc fighter who has had any success at all who has not had some training in bjj.
ericlindo 4 years ago
and that guy was wearing fagat ass shirt
vitorshaolin 5 years ago
Only Roger Gracie is good enough to be successful in mma. Ryron and any other gracie would get his ass whooped by any top mma fighter. They look good against newbs but they look like noobs against pros like matt hughes.
rygarr 5 years ago
Roger Gracie only won 1 fight in MMA. And lots of gracies a good MMA fighters ex: Renzo, Rickson(11-0),Ryan, Rodrigo,Ralph!!! why dont you watch more MMA you noob
DynomiteDerek 5 years ago
Allow groin kicks, spearhands, headbutts, biting, fishooks etc etc, in short a real 'no rules' fight -very different outcome! Are you guys even aware how open you are to mauling attacks on the ground? Typical of the Gracies to put a 'rigged' challenge match as evidence of their' superiority'! They have now been beaten a number of times in MMA and 'ducked' a number of fights, You still buy this bullshit? It's 2007 not 1993, and no one is intimidated by their 'invincibility myth'.
Sangsanim 5 years ago
It is true that their are many ways of hurting an inexperienced grappler on the floor, but any decent grappler is entirely and completely aware of the possibility of dirty striking on the floor. All of the following things which you stated are also MUch easier for a bjj/sambo/wrestling guy to do to someone with no experience. It is MUCH easier for a mounted person to eye gouge you than vice versa. Any bjj place teaches postion then submission.
ericlindo 4 years ago
They couldn't find a bigger guy to represent the BJJ ? How much heavier is this Gracie compared to the newcomer ? 25 pounds ? 30 Pounds ?
futopia 5 years ago
yeah, thats why he won, its not cause tkd sucks

Anybody that knows Rener and his brother Ryon also knows they are some of the best Gracie Fighters. Watch out when they start competing in Pride and the UFC!
kolbek2001 5 years ago
yeah i think he will do good but who knows how good his stand up is.
ozzycrue 5 years ago
BUT LIKE EVERY FIGHT...IT'S WHOEVER COMES ON TOP AT THE END...BECOMES THE WINNER. So that blue belt won even though he got hurt a little. That shows the effectivness of GJJ, a blue belt beating a TKD black belt.
lyricallyundefined 5 years ago
What they didn't show was a BLUE BELT (not a gracie, but a studuent) about the same height and weight, going against the TKD guy. And he got the TKD guy in an armbar (like the 1st move Rener got the TKD guy in). But the blue belt didn't leave without getting hurt in the process, the TKD dude threw him hurting his neck and stuff.
lyricallyundefined 5 years ago
no need for the language. He was beaten by a great grappler. That's all.
Tbh he was really bad but that is all. I wonder why they even fought.
Vicotnik 5 years ago
The TKD guy's wife got attacked recently and that he was considering enrolling her in our Women Empowered course. He mentioned he was a taekwondo practitioner and that he wasn't convinced of the effectiveness of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. So he wanted to fight a Gracie to see if GJJ was as good as everyone made it out to be.
And yeah.
