  • I love her halter top!

  • I am man suck my cock....

  • This song would be a lot better if she was naked.

  • @alaturno LOL!!! The same can be said about most songs by good-looking women! :-)

  • @cliiff100 WHAT?

  • @cliiff100 WHAT ?

  • i have those pants lol

  • @babycee303 bell bottoms are back in style.

  • I loved her, and associated with her as strong woman. Who believed in her convictions, her beliefs. She wasn't afraid to climb mountains,go thru streams & tears, find her a man, take care of the kids, get through life, and at the end make a name for herself.

  • Damn, I swear that I watch this video and it makes me want to climb the Empire State Building. Man or woman, this song is incredible. Can't you feel some power in this(rhetorical). I love U2's "bad" , The Who's "Won't get Fooled Again",and the like, so I do understand a powerful tune. Rock on and Peace always...

  • This song is awesome, and that's from a real man. I love this song and I recall seeing the Bobby Riggs tennis match where he lost to Biily Jean. This song was ruling the charts and was used for that match. This song is incredible and her eyes say soo much. Helen rules and Peace...

  • She sounds different here.. Is it just me or does her voice sound deeper? :)

  • Great song...too bad so many bitter nags' commentary ruined it for everyone else...

  • Yes, I am women :)

  • This song always makes me laugh. LOL

  • Women can fight in combat now, but they still can't kill a spider in the bathtub. That's equality for ya.

  • @Oddwun mmmm Spiders dont scare me....but tossers like you that sit and scratch their balls saying "I am Man" frighten the hell outta me.....wish I was allowed to just squash you like a spider and gettaway with calling that combat if not equality ^_^

  • Female politicians hijacked the message unfortunately. :-(

  • One of the best during my secondary school days....

  • tremendous performence by a real trooper!

  • The cutest, big sister, girl next door, tomboy in the whole world

  • @MrJfatah There's a reason for that: She was a lesbian. Look it up, doubters...

  • You can give us a hard time all you want but the facts can't be changed: Reddy placed 15 top 40 hits out of Billboard's Hot 100: 6 made top 10, 3 made number 1, so suck it, boys.

The lyric, "You can bend but never break me..." rings as true today as it did when my secretary mother bought me Reddy's double platinum Greatest Hits album for Christmas, 1976.

Misogyny is a real bore, fellas.

  • @RedDonnaAnn ... Not disputing Helen Reddy's amazing talent, just some of your numbers. According to Billboard's site, Reddy had 12 songs peak in the Top 40 (not 15), and five peak in the Top 10 (not six). Just pointing that out.

    billboard . com/#/artist/helen-reddy/chart-history/3620

  • @RedDonnaAnn

I have Regard & Respect for that open - but also kind and decent mind of yours ... X

  • Six people hate chicks.

  • That's a funny looking kitchen :P

  • Back in the 50's in Melbourne my Grandma used to babysit a young Helen Reddy. My grandparents lived in Ivanhoe and they were good friends with her family.

  • I am once again feeling empowered.....as i hope all woman will be... take back your automity and be all that you can be on your own..

  • @bink4489 So her being well known as the "Queen of pop" in the 70's, with 20 top 40 hits in the US and other countries, is purely an accident? The fact she didn't mime her songs and even wrote some of them is a fluke?

  • I really like this song. The message can really be applied to any minority group and is overall about empowerment. As a gay man, I relate to this song on a lot of levels. She is making me cry. amazing song.

  • @cliiff100 Sounds like you are the one with major problems. Do you believe women must have long hair? My Husband and I like the song. We listened to it together. He is the one that said "Sounds like he is the one with major problems."

  • @theladypatriot1 Thank you for you input. You are good peoples.

  • @cliiff100 You're silly.

  • I just shared this on facebook. I was just telling some single young mothers about it! Thanks You Tube

  • What in the name of Zeus's beard is she wearing?!? :O

  • chas bono tried to sing this...but went off the wagon...

  • I remember this!! She is cool . And look how bored the audience looks and SHE does NOT give a crap!! This song took off ! i am 49! I recall this.

  • This is back when you actually had to be able to sing, not the computer generated dog shit we have now.

  • @StoneyMcJuicyBuds you are 100% correct nowadays we get garbage like lady ga ,beyonce and rihana

  • Well, of course she is better than any current female singers. The singers today have sunk so low that just about any pop singer from the 70 is superior. American Idol was specifically created to address this current talent crisis.

  • THE SIMPSONS....

  • @RideThatSymphonyHome I was gonna say, I prefer female-Homer's version when she drives passed Bart.

  • the anthem of women lib

  • Yeah me too. 55 and love this song. Thanks for posting.

  • Love the song and the performer. Helen was badly treated by the media in Australia, but I think nearly every Australian is proud of her achievements.

  • ROAR :D

  • I miss Helen Reddy and Karen Carpenter very much. Fortunately Helen is still alive but unfortunately not performing anymore. I believe that she is about 70 years old now.

  • ROOAAAARRRRRn'!!!

  • Helen Reddy >>>> Lady Gaga

  • I'm a middle aged guy who grew up in the 60s and 70s. People have no idea what a huge influence this song, and Helen Reddy's career was, for the women's movement. This song, and the Billy Jean King/Bobby Riggs tennis match, more than any other public event in the 70s, changed the way americans thought about women's rights. You watch the news now, it's as if they never happened. But at the time, they were gigantically influential.

  • @leopoldmozart Well said! :-)

  • The funny thing she's still working for the betterment of women in Australia.

  • She look so beautiful, especially on this video and her voice as well; I love this song though I am a mann

  • It was Jane Fonda and this song that Inspired a lot of Feminatziz to star burning the bra ha ha ha ha !!

  • Every woman should start her day with this song.

  • i bet those kids sitting in the front didn't understand that what they were seeing was amazing.

  • 3 dislikes? Are you kidding me? That's unbelievable..

  • there is where i live. lol

  • To the person who posted before me. You are praising women (which is good) and demening men (bad). Pluse your spelt trust wrong.

  • @alastarter Are you the spelling police? For your information there is no such word as spelt!

  • My father worked 14 hours a day, 6 days a week. At home, my mother looked after 5 kids without any day-care, special childcare workers, social workers, counsellors or anything women seem to so much need these days. My mother was (IS!) a goddam hero!! She doesn't need any anthem, university degree or preacher's pulpit to prove that she is a WOMAN in the truest sense of the word. Men either stand up or shut up when my mother enters a room. Women 'getting it done' says all that needs saying.

  • Awsome song, Helen! Now, how is that sandwich coming along?

  • @merlyn73 You mean the one she just spit a loogie in? Here it comes, bon appetit!

  • I guess 2 male chauvinists don't like this 1. Billboard's 324th #1 hit of the rock era. God bless!

  • oh the days when the girls were wearing high waist bell bottoms, clogs and halter tops, i want to go back again

  • Thanks Helen, great performer, great song!

  • yeah, women started gettin weird back then, she does have a nice bod though.

  • Very butch haircut.

  • You call that a blouse - looks more like a handkerchief to me....lol

  • great song, great blouse..

  • great song, great blouse..

  • what is wrong with this lady? She defnetly has some probblems.

  • She is part of the reason all of my mother's friend's husbands divorced them. They became ballsy, masculine and cut their hair like a guy and criticized their men relentlessly because they weren't happy... boo friggin' hoo.

  • is she stoned?

  • nice that people actually sang live.

  • @GriefTourist - You know it is exactly that kind of sexism that perpetuates the struggle! Reversing the flow of negativity does not cancel it out. We are all brothers and sisters. Nobody chooses the sex they are born into. Blaming a global problem on half the population is not going to promote peace and equality.

  • Woaw ,sorry was just kiddin around,I was listening to this when it first came out...

  • audience looks thrilled.

  • You gotta love that mid-1970's sexy clothing she's got on, dont 'cha?!

Her nose is a little on the big side.

Oh yeah!, and then there's that hair thing! Back then, Helen had some "hair issues" (in my book, anyway). It's a shame she never let her hair grow long(er) back then.

  • Those are some bell-BOTTOMS!!

  • Je prefere la version SEX AND THE CITY 2 !!

  • yeah women are flawless it's just men who ruin the world

    hmmm

  • @GriefTourist I know its's probably hard to accept, but this song is not about men at all ... It's difficult, I know, but please try to accept that, for once, you are not the centre of attention :-)

  • @zhiyal2002 Right on!!!!!

  • She is soooo superior !!! Powerful !!! stroooooong !!!!1

  • Comment removed

  • @flathead59 That's "invincible," not "invisible."

  • Is this from the episode where my sweet babboo appeared?

  • long time changing--probably won't see it.

  • She is better than any current female singer.

  • @akear Amen!

  • @akear You're so right. It's so relaxing to watch her sing. I just love her!

  • @akear Britney, Gaga, Madonna and Katy Perry please note: Ms. Reddy is a professional singer who doesn't have to lip synch in front of a live audience.

In other words, she has real talent. She wasn't some phony creation of MTV marketing execs.

  • Radio stations really went down hill after they stopped playing Helen Reddy songs.

  • Fantastic song that gives me shivers. Its not about being superior, its about knowing/having your own mind, and knowing as a women we can do anything we put our minds to. Some people like to put others down to make themselves feel better..or spread their poison.

  • @jaeno1 I agree with what you said. Some men must put women down to feel masculine. It is a shame they fear equality. Equality would make for a better world.

  • Absolute best seen from Sex in the City.

  • Great song. It's on the SATC2 soundtrack!

  • @LesMis05 yes, great movie and fun despite the reviews..I am going again! I liked it better than SATC 1.

  • Boy does that bring back memories. I would love to have the whole collection of the Midnight Special but since I am on a fixed income I just can't afford it. Thanks to people like you I can relive it all here. Thanks for posting.

  • @cwecub Yes well when you can sing through you nose half as well as Helen, write an iconic song, record it, win a Grammy and sell some 40 million albums, then maybe I will consider your listening to your critism...until then let the rest her fans enjoy her positive message and music!

  • I still belt this one out when faced with an unpleasant task like taxes or the latest thing the cat has left on the porch. If I have to, I can do anythingggggg....

  • what is wrong with her? Why does she go backwards?

    She seems to have problems.

  • I love Midnight Special. This is very good in quality. Is this a rerun or have you kept this show on tape for so long? Thanks for posting.

  • @klaatuinc : The clip comes from the dvds of "The Midnight Special".

  • @sannasonja Thanks for your info. I'll try to get one. :-)

  • This feminist anthem has deceived many women.....

  • She's so daring here. She's almost half-naked.

  • @baritone816 you noticed too,...that halter top she's got on is knitted,...if one looks closely, can see her nip....8O
