One has to wonder whether or not, given Sabbath's reputation as Satanist, the lyrics to this piece were composed as they were, simply as a joke to confuse the band's detractors.
stop with the god heaven nonsense and live a good life!! dammit when will we stupid fucking humans wake the eff up! all your organizing into groups is what is the downfall of man. DO NOT join any group! when people join aNY group man seee the power of the people and uses it to feed his own innate nature to utilize that power to substantiate his own power as a creature (significance amongst his environment) man needs value! that is what we humans crave VALUE! dont you get it?! ...
just because animals shit on the ground they eat off does not make us supreme beings YOU DUMBFUCKS! you are fodder for those who capitalize off that ignorance and use you for their need for power by gaining the power from you in groups....
Yes! they had a sound that caught my attention at an early age, Ozzy liked making the lyrics to the songs based on facts that he saw in his mind, about the world. Ozzy is a great songwriter. (He hit my ignition button in my mind, to get more information about God, and made me want to learn more about religion, and in doing so, made me seek out and research about that subject, and get closer to God, to see the big picture!)
Let's get things into perspective, people. None of the founding members of Sabbath were Christians. They were raised that way, yes... but none of them were religious. Not Christians... not Satanists... not nothing. Now try to imagine that you've gone back in time to 1971. Forty years ago. This album's theme was just a response to the overwhelming criticism that Sabbath was getting at the time... the allegations that they were Satan worshipers, who were trying to corrupt the youth of the world.
Geez , thanks Rufus566, did you just figure this out or are you preaching to the land of the brain deads ? I've known this for 40 yrs. Bought the album just months after it came out.
I have loved Sabbath since I was a 14 year old little girl! I am a Christian now,and how awesome to find some Sabbath music I could Rock in church(if I went)
When I was a kid back in the 70s, this album cover used to mesmerize me. It's almost hypnotic. I know it's a shit album cover but....it isn't! Am I making any sense? It lured me into the dark music. I pressed my nose against the windows of record shops & it enticed me into the world of heavy rock.
Sabbath was always positive in the motivation towards good, in recognizing that this world is evil. Their message was not advocacy for the evil, but just the opposite, a warning that when you suppress good, evil will ruin us. This song fits the Sabbath mold perfectly. Believing in God makes you a rebel in this death culture society. It warns don't be a follower, but stand up for what you believe in. God represents the opposite of the man's world, same theme as War Pigs, Children of the grave.
@rufus566 I'm 55, my uncle turned me on to Master of Reality when it 1st come out, smok'n some pot in a black lite room. was the 1st time I knew I was not alone in my thoughts. And it still KICKS ASS
was christ that popular that ozzy had to sing about him? guess so.for me lyrics are cheesy but the music is soo good! i dont know about yall but i got surround sound
I'm not really a metal fan - but this album was (still have the vinyl) and IS great !
Many specials (the beautiful 'Orchid', the conclusion of 'ChildrenOfTheGrave', the intro and the bass lines of my favourite 'AfterForever'), good lyrics, good production, a classic cover-design and all four guys at their best - a Real Masterpiece of rock, that stood the times and always will - FOREVER.
@shawndixon13 well 2 things; 1, if your not afraid of Hell what are you afraid of? GOD? and 2, if someone can stand up in front of millions of people and say that God is real and that Jesus was and is the Christ, that pretty much promotes the Lord and Christianity. also on a side note, Christianity is not a religion, it's a relationship. thank you and have a wonderful day, and God bless.
A great song, great album, great band. But I must say that when ozzy sings the song these days it just don't sound like the album. He still is a magnificent singer, you must agree but he ( especially in this song ) just doesn't sound the same.
i don't think they were trying to be religious on this album or this song or take the side of God...i think they were trying to scare people but instead of using a dark satanic theme like they did on the first 2 albums, they kind of twisted it around and used God to scare people kind of clever if u ask me
@murphslw although i am a very anti-religious person(i still respect people's beliefs and think everyone has a right to believe in whatever they choose) i'm very glad geezer wrote this song. it goes to show you really shouldn't judge a book by its cover. many people were accusing sabbath of being satanists and "evil" people. this song destroys that claim in every way.
would you like to see the pope on the end of a rope? do you think he,s a fool? God is the only way to love!! whatever God or Gods you hold dear to your soul.Do onto others..... Hate is a waste of energy .
I just realised that the letters go all funky when you look at them for a while. Haha this is a great album and great band , at least while they had Ozzy. No disrespect to Dio or anything but I think Ozzy was the best singer they ever had.
This classic album seems to be the real response to the dark, seemingly satanic themes of the first album-the brilliance of the "paranoid" album notwithstanding. This release seems to take the side of "God", or the positive force of the universe to stunning effect. One of the stone classics of the metal genre!
wi always thought they were satanists but this changes everything id still like there music even if they were satanists but i wouldnt follow there teachings but now i no they are christian wich means i can listen to this in my church without wrry
Well as a musician i think its best to stay as neutral as a reporter unless your a preaching ass Satanic or Christian( or whatever) band, and to make music from a philosophical standpoint. These guys got evil fuckin' songs that bring me back to their music but its songs like these that make me a true 'Sabbath fan.
metallica-one has a christian theme in it too. when they talk about democracy 40 seconds into the vid, its kinda like what jesus and god did. god gave his only begotten son for democract, or for the ability for everybody to be treated equally and get the same rights. i found that at like 1:00 this morning :P
Anyone who calls Black Sabbath "Satannic" should listen to this track. I am not Christian, but these lyrics definitely are. Incidentally, when I heard Stryper wanted to do a Sabbath song, I was not surprised they would cover Sabbath, but I was surprised they didn't choose this one.
