  • It is indeed groundbreaking!

  • Good Video... :)

  • I love how he depicts our envy of glamorous people with footage of Marty Feldman @ 5:22

  • The song is an instrumental version of 'This Little Bird', famously sung by Marianne Faithfull.

  • 4:30 girl on the left looks baked out of her mind. Unexpected LOL.

    Anyway, thanks for uploading.

  • Who is the painter at 4,45? I think it's English? 18th Century? Gainsborough?

  • what is the name of the painting at 4:45-4:48 and who is the artist's name?? it is marvelous!

  • does anyone know what song is playing at the beginning of this clip?

  • so do you guys agree that oil painting is all about capital ?

  • Thank you ever so much for posting this!

  • Santa Rosa Junior College in CA has this series on VHS as well, these youtube videos are a great way of reaffirming the ideas developed by reading the book

  • Wolverhampton University has a copy of this on VHS in the media library. At least they did when I was there from 1997-2000. If any of you know someone there at the moment get them to have a look!

  • Great stuff, thanks for posting.

There are so many great BBC documentaries out there.

  • Only a few major libraries have the original video copies so this is really handy. The BBC are quite mad not to have transferred this to DVD. I've been looking for it for years in vain. Thanks a lot!

  • I second that. Thanks SOOOOOOO much. Brilliant!

  • Thanks for posing this. Really useful info for university students. I've read the book many times. Is the video available for download anywhere on the net? I've searched but had no luck.

  • I can't see it anywhere, either. It's a shame the BBC haven't released it.

  • The Penguin tie-in book has never been out of print in the UK since it appeared in the early 70s. It was on the reading list when I did Media Studies ten years ago; the teacher said she'd love to show the class the documentary but she couldn't get hold of a copy. I expect the book is still on art and media reading lists. The book has been reissued as a Penguin Modern Classic: a great acolade.

But STILL no sign of a DVD release... Unbelievable...

  • @manwithaplan999 I got my copy from karagarga.

  • @manwithaplan999 Oh Oh!!! that's really bad...
