I read in an interview with the Animals and they claimed that "The House of the Rising Sun" was written in England and brought to America back in 16th or 17th century. There is very little evidence to support this claim but...Isn't it funny how nationalistic people can get? I guess maybe they wanted a closer connection to the song.
