@RamiRiefert This it liquid cooled yes. The Dual Processor 2.5GhZ and 2.7GhZ models are prone to coolant leaks. I believe it's slightly more common in the 2.7GhZ version. If you want to buy a G5 of similar speed but no risk of leaks (because it's not liquid cooled), get the Dual-Core 2.3Ghz machine from 2005.

@TehEspaaK By todays standards, it's really starting to show it's age. Back in 2009 / 2010, it wasn't so bad, but technology is moving on so quickly. G5's fit 2 SATA HD's (7200rpm is 100% possible of course) but it's only SATA 1.5GB/s. We no wave SATA 3 6GB/s. Maxing out the RAM is pointless unless the applications your using recognise it. Your better bet is to buy a first generation Mac Pro. One of the Quad 2.66GhZ Xeon's from 2006 / 2007. Much more capable :)

You ARE SO LUCKY that the G5 Dual 2.5 hasn't sprung a leak!!! In case you didn't know most of the dual 2.5 and 2.7's have been prone to leak due to the shitty DELPHI LCS in them.. The Quad which I have doesn't suffer as much.. in fact the Quad has a less than 1 percent failure rate.

Hey man...

Unfortunately, you can't :( Snow Leopard required an Intel based processor. This is a PowerPC G5 chip and Snow Leopard doesn't support it. It's a shame because this machine has more than enough RAM to run it, and if Snow Leopard supported G5, then I have a feeling that it would run really well.

Leopard is still a very good and current OS though. :)

Just to jump into this little argument...

Mac Mini may be Intel, and it may be a Dual Core, but upgrading anything bigger than RAM in it is extremely hard!

I have PCI slots in this Mac to add whatever I want. eSATA, FireFire and USB. I can easily upgrade the graphics card to something that will kill the Mac Mini's little chip. I can also run very large, and very fast hard drives. And 2 of them, instead of 1...

Mac Mini might be 'quicker' but the G5 has extreme upgrade options...

I have a Powermac G5 tower, but it's a single 1.8Ghz G5 processor with 3GB of RAM and Nvidia Geforce 6800 Ultra DDL (256 MB VRAM). It runs Adobe CS4 suite with no problems. Only animations in Flash CS4 can be slow sometimes.

This was the 2004 model. They made a Dual core model in 2005, and a Quad core with 2 Dual core CPU's. Unfortunately, my model is prone to coolant leak. :/ The Dual Core 2005 models are not liquid cooled at all so their much more reliable. I'm just holding out and hoping for the best :)

It's a really fast computer and I'm really happy with it.

I'm REALLY serious about planning to buy one of these off eBay sometime in the future. They sound like nice computers, and I've never had a Mac before. There are a few postings on this eBay Wholeseller (they're legit) offering Dual 1.8's and Dual 2.0's from $389-400 (This is USD, by the way). And the 2.5 is $399. All come with OSX Tiger Standard and a 30-day warranty. I think I may buy the Dual 2ghz. Suggestions? Oh and I'm thinking aout the 20" Apple Cinema (they have for $269)

Okay so it depends if your looking at a Dual 2.5GhZ, or a Dual Core 2.5GhZ. You probs know that the one I have is a Dual 2.5GhZ, which means that there's 2 single core processors. The Dual Core 2.5GhZ has 1 processor with 2 cores. This has a major advantage because it's not liquid cooled. My model is prone to coolant leak, but the Dual Core G5's aren't at all because their not liquid cooled! :) However, it's rare to get a leak. And this machine is VERY VERY fast.

That seems like a great price!.... I would go for the 2.5GhZ if your not worried about the risk of a leak.

As for the cinema display, I'm sure your aware that you can get a better spec monitor for much less money. But, the cinema displays are AMAZING quality in every way, and their just beautiful. They match the G5 so well. If I could afford one, I would buy one.
