  • Check out my cover of this song ;)

  • I want this video on my Xenium X503 phone.

  • I actually like this rendition

  • I love this song! :3 -3

  • goodby Heath and Mark

  • Still the best version of them all! I watched hundreds of versions, but Rufus is still on top of them all! Just raw emotion, pure heart singing!

  • Listen to John Cale's version . . . the original cover! It's majestic - my fave version! Years before Buckley, Wainwright, Lang, Bon Fucking Jovi(!!!??)

  • Noob

  • Personally, I prefer Jeff Buckley's version. It has more feeling.

  • I'll be perfectly honest. I've yet to hear a version of this song I DON'T like. For one, it's a simple tune, but not an easy one to sing, and for that each version is inherently different. Every artist brings something different to Cohen's genius writing. Don't compare the different versions to each other, it may be the same song, but the artists who do the covers are apples and oranges.

  • I agree for the most part - this is very special. However, to my mind, no one excells Leonard Cohem singing his own song in his own way. Susan Boyle is also excellent.

  • This is one of the only performances, done with a certain amount of modesty. So many singers get so self-important when singing this song, like they sing the song exclusively because they enjoy listening to themselves. Rufus really manages to sing this, without the slightest arrogance

  • Eeeggh gross this guys can so NOT sing this

  • @beautifultradgeyXox eehhemm, GO DIE, FUCKING RETARD

  • @beautifultradgeyXox My aren't you a narrow and nasty minded little person!

  • awful voice

  • Comment removed

  • это одно из лучшего что есть!

  • If this song isn't played on my Funeral I swear on my own grave that I shall return from the dead...

  • Hey guys n girls checkout my first cover it will only take 2.31 mins of your life : )

  • this song makes me cry every damn time. Love.

  • BEST PERFORMANCE OF CONHEN'S SONG "Hallelujah"!

  • @elpoeta22 You must listen to Josh Krajcik's version, you will get chills!

  • I first heard this song while watching a Canadian film called St. Ralph and was mesmerized by its beauty. I think Rufus' best performance of "Hallelujah" was a few years back, when he sang it with his mother and sister Martha at a tribute for Leonard Cohen.

  • good but Jeff Buckley's is the one that moves my soul

  • There is Something about Rufus's voice that enters your soul..................

    Allways,

    Denise

  • how are there so many dislikes? this is pure beauty....:') very moving

  • The best of the best

  • who did that original that tears your heart out?

  • @cossydog leonard cohen did the origional, but Jeff Buckley has the one tha made me cry.... not sure if it'll have the same effect on you though.

  • why are 1,033 people disliking this song...? go listen to justin bieber

  • @JoeShotta uhhh yeah i agree:)

  • @JoeShotta there trying to make the lightsaber, they see a good song, then, BOOM. TROLL BOMB

  • @JoeShotta ..Perhaps they prefer the Leonard Cohen original?

  • Wow, very good voice! This guys got mad talent.

  • The last verse is my favorite part of the song!

  • This is both tender and powerful at the same time.

  • my favourite version of this song

  • So incredibly beautiful!! This will be my mantra song for 2012!

  • Well since everyone is naming off who's good at singing this song..... Sean Murphy Hallelujah cover. Just the most amazing cover, you feel the power of the song overcome your soul. MUST SEE! :D

  • great version great talent. as far as best - well that's a matter of opinion. personally my favourite vocalist for this song is kd lang.

  • I think it's the best version after Leonard himself too.

  • Has no one ever heard Sid Sriram sing this song? Look it up here on YouTube... That young boy can sing....

  • I am around the strange section of Youtube once more.

  • The Jeff Buckley version beats all others - and I am a big Rufus fan - check Buckley's version out, it will bring you to tears, especially at 59-58s from the end of the studio version

  • Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, to Mr. Cohen for composing this remarkably touching song, but we all have our preference of who covers it best. I'll take this one by Rufus Wainright. Thank you for uploading the video for us to enjoy! :-)

  • try the guitar buddies...THE best version!!!

  • no no nt the best version, thats for Jeff Buckley

  • Bon Jovi did a nice job too

  • there are a lot of beautiful versions of this epic song of leonard cohen but no one will ever excel jeff buckley

  • Celtic Thunder does this song justice

  • I'm sorry Rufus, you're great, but no one will ever hold a candle to Jeff Buckley's version. That will strangle a tear out of the most dispassionate.

  • Kinda nasally version of a beautiful song.

  • wow, awesome.

  • I use to like this version most...then I heard Jeff Buckley's and KD Lang's...I like Jeff's most and KD's close second...this one not as much anymore.

  • hallelujah has been sung by many over the years and all have their own style. All are equally good and get to the soul. i enjoy this song no matter who sings it, because the message is there only delivered in a different manner .

  • Josh Krajcik got me here.

  • this guy sings with his tongue. thith guy thingth with hith tongue. and blurs his speech. the John Cale version is a lot nicer in my opinion. check it out.

  • God. So incredibly sad. Absolutely beautiful and perfect.

  • can't believe they use this song for a sex scene...funny concept though

  • what's wrong with his speech? did he go to the dentist before performing??? *lame*

  • @vacation89282 fuck you, that is all

  • why i can not sing this song more beatiful than Rufus .This song-is our life !

  • ...Yeah...

  • how could anyone dislike this?

  • J'aime bien :)

  • My favourite

  • i'd say i raped the replay button 50 times too few

  • What about k.d. lang?

  • I love this version. It's probably because it's the first I heard, but I truly adore his voice.

  • His voice is too strong....

  • @model23girl23 listen to him when he isnt singing and tell me if u think the same lol

  • makes me cry every time he says, "love is not a victoy march. It's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah."

  • One of those songs that no matter who plays it is sounds so incredibly beautiful both instrumentally and vocally...

In saying this I'm going by the fact that I haven't and never will hear Alexandra Burke's version... X factor WILL NOT take this song from me as well!

  • an awesome song

  • Hard to beat this live version!

  • mmh I am always in the mood for some fun

  • fuck the 1022 people

  • @ZEPPAGE11 They were probably looking for cartoon songs

  • @ZEPPAGE11 sick name bro

  • Hellelujah , I heard this .

    Why I am crying ?

  • @zazanougatine me - too. hits a place so deep.

  • the good ones do it live.

    great cover

  • TURN OFF THE CHRISTMAS ADDS YOUTUBE!

  • amazing

  • Very nice version !

  • This version just gives me chills when I hear it. Love Leonard Cohen and Rufus.

  • Yep.... best song of all times. But done best by Jeff Buckley! Composer, Leonard Cohen, was a genius!!! Love them all!

  • Furchtbar !

  • Nice version but the original is better

  • Definitely the best version of one of the best songs ever!

  • @lcsigns4u jeff buckley's is pretty awesome, too

  • @lcsigns4u Can't agree with u there. Ever listened to jeff buckley?

  • @lcsigns4u Its good but its by no stretch of the imagination the best, just watch Jeff Buckley live in Chicago 95 and watch the whole thing.

  • @lcsigns4u Good but not even close to being the best!

  • @lcsigns4u jason castro's i think is better

  • Could this be the best song of all time?

  • @hendrixenco completely not

  • Rufus Wainright's voice is beautiful.

  • amazing realy

  • I love this version

  • I like this version very much, but the best cover will always be Jeff Buckley's.

  • Rufus is amazing

  • i think this is the best version so far

  • very full of inspiratonal...halelujah!!

  • Rufus, you are quite simply an amazing talent.

  • wunderschön...!

  • The programme this was featured on was Other Voices....

  • It is Cohen's song, so he is more likely to give the most authentic rendition. John Cale's version could certainly not be called generic either. KD Lang's version is terrific also. Jeff Buckley's is tops in my book. Bottom line, however, is that this was such an amazing job os soengwriting that any singer with a sufficient dose of character in his or her voice can deliver a powerful performance.

  • actually, this is my favorite version of the song. I've listened to most other versions, and now whenever I sing it, I can't help but sing it like this

  • hey I've uploaded a video of myself singing this song, please watch it and let me know what you think :)

  • My favorite version.

  • Such an artist!! Go on!

  • SUCH A BEAUTIFUL SONG!!!!!! I JUST REALLY LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!1

  • ..Leonard Cohen is 100% better...His soulful voice conveys so much more depth and pathos....Rufus, is OK but has to generic a voice like too many other singers....Cohen is the true master..

  • I absolutely LOVE his voice.... Nobody can sing it like him =)... wonderful voice. One of my favez. god bless

  • Thank you, Cohen, for the lyrics of this beautiful song and music of the original, and thank you, Wainwright, for this amazing take on it. (:

  • loosing your love is a lot like loosing your faith. It exposes all your ugly weaknesses and hypocrisies. All the ugly underpinnings of your day to day. And yet to be naked is to be honest. I love how Leonard Cohen can take you to a place in emotion.

  • well Always a good time with me

  • I love this song !

  • Can we all just listen to the music, take a message from it of our own interpretation and just stop flaunting religious bullshit?

i am not religious, but I love this song and I love rufus wainright.

  • best interpretation of Leanard Cohen's masterpiece!!!

    Rufus Wainwright forever!! :D

  • @mioumiou25 That was nice of you :)

  • @ronniemankiller100 KEEP YOUR HEAD UP - One day you will think "Why did I cry about her? Why did I spend time to think about her?"

THE estimated population of the world as of August 2011 is 6,957,690,528.

ASK YOURSELF: WHY CAN ONLY ONE PERSON BREAK YOUR HEART? DON'T LET THEM DO IT. LIFE GOES ON AND ON - THERE ARE SO MANY OTHER GOOD THINGS TO DO AND PEOPLE TO MEET WHO ARE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO LOVES THEM ! ENJOY YOUR LIFE - START NOW !!! GO AND DO SOMETHING!!

  • I think I prefer the Leonard Cohen version, but this is still great. There's just something about this song that gets to me.

  • @ARFarley

I love this song Have you heard Alexandra Burke's version? It is haunting!!! Try it if you havent already!

  • @taratkd shes AMAZING!

  • If that's what you have to tell your self to deal with the evil you've done just because you don't bleave don't mean it will save you god is as real as this song and in the end wen your standing at the gates of hell remember the demones that follow you are proof of god

  • lol, god is like star trek, star wars and every other science fiction story, that is all it is a fictional character in a fictional story.

  • you can find the lyrics to this song on my channel

  • this is NOT by rufus wainwright

  • Comment removed

  • @xxwantedxx are you insane? that's rufus wainwright. :p millions people watch this and only you who say that this is NOT Rufus Wainwright...

  • @Glee0nFox it was written by leonard cohen that's all that i mean, this is rufus's cover version.

  • Anybody else find Rufus incredibly sexy?

  • @MsPiano23 Whore.

  • @MsPiano23 Oh yes, plenty of us do. Men and women! He is the only gay guy I have ever had a HUGE crush on!!!

  • Thank God for this version. I love you, Rufus.

  • The best cover I've heard of this song!

  • @imtooawesomeforauser You should listen to John Cale's version it's pretty good too!

  • The good kind, not the kind you get with stomach flu.

  • This gives chills to all who listen.

  • heard part of this song in a movie my roommate was watching. Brought me back memories of watching Shrek, and I knew I had to find this song. In the past couple of hours I have listened to about8 or 9 different versions a total of about 30 times. Still not getting old, still a beautiful song, still loving the amazing work done by Cohen here.

  • I absolutely love his voice, and yes same here, as soon as I heard it in the movie Shrek, I knew immediately.

  • Most of Cohen's song's have religious references, and they are all love songs. In his mind, I believe God and love are synonymous. I knew this was a Cohen song the first time I heard it in Shrek.

  • Oh my God, I love him. He's actually beautiful!

  • Ok...this is pretty much the exact same version as Buckley minus a couple little note variations...This is good but Buckleys is definitely better

  • better than cohen and buckley...in my opinion

  • Holy God, I love you! don't give up me, keep beside me forever~~

  • This song makes me cry .... Thank.u god I praise u fully

  • Some people might think it's corny to like this but I don't care! This is my favorite song cuz its beautifully sung, and it's so soulful! I LOVE THIS!!!!!

  • Super !!!

  • So much soul. The lyrics and the performer both.

This isn't about religion, it's about devotion to life, it's beauty and it's pain, both.

Go past belief, religion, judgment and just see beauty where it exists.

  • ☀ Leanord Cohen wrote this song about love which has soured and gone stale. Cohen used a lot of religious references, including references to some of the more notorious women in the bible. It's interesting--I recommend looking it up.

☀ I mean, right now I could be listening to some great "shawty shawty lemme f*** you" sorta rap...... but I don't want to.

☀ Thumbs up for music that has meaning. You know, a message.

  • @RadioInspirationMvmt This, so much. Songs like this, and classical pieces, the ones that change you without needing any lyrics...

  • @RadioInspirationMvmt agreed!
