I dont know if my installtion went wrong but I'm ahving two issues.

1)I dont have as many options in the appearance manager as you do

2) i have my cube setting the same as in the video but my cube just flattens out and i have to use arrow keys to go from one window to the other.

If you are a hardcore gamer, I don't suggest a switch to linux at this point. It may be a good idea, however, to dual boot. Linux is great at doing everything else except for gaming.

There are some pretty cool games that run natively on linux though, like Battle for Wesnoth and Nexuiz.

Right click on your bottom panel and click "new panel" Then when you get it up there right click on the blank top panel and "add to panel" everything back.

Main Menu is the applications/places/system thing

Then there's the clock, notification area, shut down button.

You can drag and drop things like sound and power management or whatever else you're missing from your main menu. It's very customizable and don't worry, you haven't really lost anything.

oh, with you. what you need to do is erm, let me see.

CompizConfig Settings Manager > Horziontal Virtual Size > Set it to what you want :)

As for the 3D windows the plugin is called 3D Windows and is under Effects.

For the best and most cohesive Linux desktop though my vote goes to KDE 4.3.4, even though Kwin isn't as powerful it works better and is easier to configure :)

Graphics acceleration isn't supported on Vmware. I had the same problem. Just use wubi and install i inside windows.

I VirtualBox allows the effects to work if:

1: You enable 3D Accelleration on the VM

2: You install the Guest Additions in the guest Linux operating system.

All three are good in their own way. For Windows Users, I recommend Windows 7. Not Vista.

Of course, Ubuntu is free, but if you want to play great games or use Photoshop, Corel Painter, or something like that, Ubuntu isn't the one.

Hopefully, someone creates a better competitor of Corel Painter for unix/Linux users, because Gimp may be a competitor for Photoshop, but not for Corel Painter. A whole different ball-game.

Gimp is pretty cool. There are vids of people using it on Youtube. Some games have native installers like Doom3 for example (I know its old, its an example) Some games run great in wine too.

I had used windows my whole life through xp but vista came out and i said screw u to vista and got a mac mini. had nothing but problems so i upgraded to a macbook (white). same problems. so i switched to ubuntu and loved it. but now win7 is out (rc1) and let me tell u, its miles ahead of any other os out there.

I have to agree with SLKclan, they are all the same man, I tried all kinds of Operating systems and really dude they are the same too me. I don't play games other than cod4. I have windows vista and xp, ubutntu and mac osx, you know I see no real difference. The only reason I am using mac osx is because I like the interface on it plus it plays cod4 just fine.
