I think that is paladino on the bass... but that top comment over there I think is the worst guess ever... Is really that missy elliot... I don't think so really... :/
Wow! What an all star lineup! David Gilmour on guitar, Bill Wyman of The Rolling Stones on bass, Chris Stein from Blondie on keyboard, Bob Gedolf on drums and Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliot on the vocals!
This is a good rendition...I just wish Piano Man hadn't said "he felt the blues coming on" though...I would of liked to turned into an MP3; still might! BTW, who is the vocalist? Anyone know? She looks familiar.
Hey "CAT'S" I'm 58 years old,and David Gilmour is the same live as the studio tracks you buy!I seen them twice in 94 on the Pulse Tour, and this is a Artist who devoted his love for Blues first.
I put a spell on you Because you're mine. You better stop The things that you're doing. I said "Watch out! I aingt lying, yeah! I aingt gonna take none of your Fooling around; I aingt gonna take none of your Putting me down; I put a spell on you Because you're mine. All right!
Sorry can't say that like this. SJH did the best version of this song, but that's cause he wrote it. Second has to be CCR. I don't think you'll ever hear it done any better.
@VintageKustom Not even close dude lol. You didn't hear the version by Arthur Brown, mdgamaral has a copy of it on here. her is the link: Paste this into the YouTube search box: watch?v=k7MgohiD5Fk or, Go to my channel, Bloxorzwizard is my handle. The Trick RUNS channel has a link to it. That is IMHO the definitive version of this song. Msg me later and tell me what you think.
@BloxorzWizard Yeah....No, still not my cup of tea. See that is just my opinion and thats something that won't change. It's what makes us human. We all have our likes and dislikes and there is nothing wrong with that. The best thing about this is that we're all on here to listen to great music...No matter what kind it is and who's listening to it. Happy listening!!!
I think it's Gilson Lavis from Squeeze on drums- always plays with Jools. Bassist looks like Pino Palladino, not sure about the keys though. (Sorry if you were trying to be ironic - and thought this was Twin Peaks!).
Talk about growing on a person, this version puts Pain in your soul in a GOOD way, can't believe Mica Paris and her vocal pipes along with being such a beautiful woman.A lot of talent in this small group!!!!!
boring too soft! no thrill. david was not in his best day.... getting ol' gettin' soft??? i doubt ! david, david, c'mon you sure should rock it a bit more!!!
boring too soft! no thrill. david was not in his best day.... getting ol' gettin' soft??? i doubt ! david, david, c'mon you sure should rock it a bit more!!!
Always fun to see and hear covers where the artist(s) put their own spin on a song rather than just playing it the same. And this version is MONEY! I love it!
Looks like they recorded this in someone's basement... that is a lot of talent for one small room!
I hate it when a wildly interesting song is made more boring. This is the first version of this song I've ever heard that I thought missed the point. Screaming Jay would not be happy.
@TheBluesnbob yup that's Pino. he was big into the fretless Music Man back then. He kinda started a trend with that actually, from Paul Young's Every Time You Go Away
Why everyone rates Hendrix over Gilmour is beyond me. Yes Jimmy laid down some pretty amazing licks, on the other hand, with half as notes, Gilmour paints much more of an emotional picture.
gwalj is correct in saying Pink Floyd would have never achieved the level in musical history withour Gilmour. Waters was incredible at writing, and Wright was heavily influential with has jazz leanings; the perfect package.
Also, Gilmour brought was an unmatched degree of techincial intelligence.
@Anaben11 he sort of flick's his wammy bar thing while he does a bend and add's his little finger on the string above at the same fret. Sorry I can't explain better, I play a gibson and although I can solo, I don't have a clue as to what half the name's for thing's are.
He uses his tremolo bar at the same time as moving to another fret. You can also get the same affect by releasing a bend and rocking the bar back and forth gently.
Also, those EMG pickups and his custom mid boost really accentuates those harmonics. Just for the record, as much as a Gilmour fan I am, I just don't like his tone during this era. I am so glad he went back to the passive pickups... much more natural.
@jaystern71 I have the Gilmour EMG pickguard assembly. I've been playing it for years, LOVE IT. I personally love his tone with the EMGs. Of coarse, I really can't tell much difference
@motokev Well, that's what makes horse races. It is a very clean and powerful sound, and I can see why loads of people enjoy it. I just find them too clean, and the balance of harmonics sounds artificial.
The reason he used them back in the late 80s - early 90s was to cope with the interference the lighting system would produce. The single coils would hum like crazy, so an active pickup system cleared that up.
David Gilmour's phrasing is the finest in the world. Without that tone, style, and feel I doubt Pink Floyd would have achieved the acclaim they did (notwithstanding Roger Water's visionary creativity). The greatest loss to rock was when David and Roger parted ways...
Gilmour can play blues guitar better than most people on the planet. Years ago Paul Rogers released a blues cover album called Muddy Water Blues which features some of the best guitarists on the planet. David Gilmour's guitar work on Standing Around Crying will put a chill up and down your spine!
It's Pino Palladino one of the best session bassists in the world, usually plays a fretless. If you remember Paul Young from the 80's Pino's playing basically makes the song. look up "I'm Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down" for Pinos most famous sound
