also scopes can have a 1/4 moa elevation and windage knobs, or 1/2 moa otr bigger or smaller

last one is less accurate then first one

and for the rest the quality of how it is against hard conditions

water coated lenzes, dust coated lenses,....

size of objective lens

also some rifles kinda 'prefer' the one scope over the other

just search, its pretty complicated, but a scope means verry much

@OmniscientBiscuit m21 was a Designated Marksman Rifle for the squad marksmen and M107 is an anti-material rifle i think, which means the DMR is good for range, but you don't get the amount a heavier round like M110 can get, and the M107 is usually for hitting through walls or taking armor out

ohhh puh-leaze @ 1:58 we clearly hear hollywood at work.. this is clearly edited with a typically fake for tv/movie 'suppresed' gunfire. Most likely the guy was firing supersonic rounds and even with a suppressor it would not sound much quieter than unsuppressed since you still hear the round breaking the soundbarrier. However, if he was firing subsonic you would just hear the sound of the gases escaping but it still would not sound like the stupid high pitched sound they use in this show..

The M110 is rifle that wants to a "grownup" M-16 and a 21st century AR-10 at the same time. Its major factor the US Army is using this is because its clamoring the a designated marksman rifle that is accurate to 200 to 700 meters in an instant. The US military always sticks the rounds logistics can provide and a platform soldiers are trained at. There is no need to relearn a new rifle. The best environs for this nifty rifle is urban fighting where the enemy appears and reappears like gophers.

@ximowilson The system it is based on is the AR-10 that Dr. Eugene Stoner designed and optioned to the US Army in 1956 to replace the M1 Garand. The design was 'refined' and shrunk to use the new smaller and "more accurate" 5.56 round, thus the XM16E1 was born. From the XM16E1 came the M16A1, and from that the XM117, and from that came the M4. The AR-10 however was the root of all of their development. And the M110 is closer in lineage to the AR-10 than the M16/M4, with some modern improvements.

Even with the suppressor, it still sounds like a baseball bat hitting a ball. There is still an audible "crack". That silencer sound they do sounds like doo doo and isn't realistic at all.

And to comment on someone's questions why they chose this over the bolt action, it's simple numbers. Fire more rounds. But bolt action IS much more accurate, you just take more time to reload and reacquire.

I. If this gun (or any .308 caliber match grade rifle for example) is capable of firing accurate shots for 3000ft. :O , why do armies and LE units still use bolt actions?

Simplicity? Obsolete thinking in high ranks? Special reasons?

II. I didn't find information mentioning gas piston, so I suppose it uses dgi.

Isn't that method of firing "too dirty" for a high precision rifle?
