( Siehe 2. Bild 2r (3) Buckler des Priesters) Warum dieser Unterschied zum Manuskript?
Great video guys! Started a Sword & Buckler class at GHFS now and I try to attend as often as I can. Now I can cheat by sitting by the computer and watch the techniques before hand. Could you in the future edit the video on the more advanced techniques with a slow motion segment?
That is correct. The mutatio gladii works with accepting the overbind, too, exactly like the previous counter only at a wider distance. Realizing the distance is too wide to use the durchtrit, you have to first prevent the opponent's blade to go for your head by overbinding it yourself (the actual mutatio). From there, shieldstrike under your sword arm, do a back edge blow with the sword (nucken) and finish the cut with the long edge.
When your opponent tries to overbind you from Halfshield he has to commit to the pressure and the move. When he feels you give way by accepting the overbind (and raising your hilt) he may find himself in a position to strike to your head. To prevent this, rotate your blade counter clockwise to overbind him instead. Accepting the bind and the mutation happens in one fluent movement, of course.
In fact, that was how we used to do it. The video sports our latest version. From accepting the bind and lifting the hilt we no longer rotate the point counter clockwise (which could be done but ultimately should result in a different technique). Instead we use the same initial movement as in the durchtreten: As the opponent slides down and off your hanging blade, flick it in a clockwise circle to the left of your body and come down to intercept his blade (best with the flat).
Thank you very much for your detailed answer ! I think I understand better. That makes me think to second counter of pieces of krumphau in Ringeck manuscript.
This has to be your best demonstration of the first play to date. The speed and energy with which it is performed is inspiring. It shows the dynamics far better than the previous two drafts. Congratulations.
Swords aren't lightsabers. You can't just put your blade on your opponent and act like it counts. Cut with real force! Because if you are not using real force then your techniques and interpretations are not valid.
What is 'real force'? What may look like a tap in the clip is a pushed slicing cut. The cut is one of the 'three wounders' next to the blow and the thrust. And while I agree that a curved blow has mor impact energy, pushed cut are far from being unheard of in the sources.
Try it at your next test cutting session - it is mean! And it has a longer reach than a blow once you are a pursuing your shieldbound opponent.
I like to fight with realistic speed and power too but I also do slow drilling to learn. In the video they are not fighting, they are demonstrating. I would however like to see some free sparring from this group. For sparring they would need some armor or some padded weapons.
there are plenty of Hammaborg freeplay and tournament clips on tossetoke's channel. Just click his name in this page's top right corner and then choose from the according playlists.
What swords are you using? Excellent work as well!

Hello
You have did a great work ! Cheer !
I begin to try to understand I.33, and I have one question about this video : is there a durchtreten on this video ?

At the moment we consider the counter against the overbind from Halfshield starting at 1'06" the "Durchtreten" as TosseToke has replied.
Works by accepting the overbind, keeping the bind while lifting your pommel and shield-striking under your sword arm.
warzechas 3 years ago
Thanks both for your answers !
Consequently I have another question : is the
counter (at less the beginning) after the overbind from Halfshield starting at 1'17 is the "mutare" ?"

Thank you for explanation ! I understand this sequence, and manuscript, better now !
About overbinding (after another overbinding), I have difficulty in seeing, how remove you your blade without opponent take advantage of it ?

@gcoffman06 cuts and thrusts also count . look at the i.33 do u see any armor ? me not either .
its not showfight its technique and trust me even a soft strike, thrust to the face will make u stop fighting instantly.
cheers
