I found the film pointless, it had no message or clear ending, the girl didnt really better her self, it just left thinking, so, what happened to her?
Kermode calls out Armond White on what a douchebag he is, I love it. White isn't a real film critic and I have NO FUCKING IDEA how he is still in the business of writing reviews that actually find their way onto the internet or any other means of broadcast. Dude is fucking joke.
I disagree completely. Don't go see this movie, instead go to the first homeless guy you can find and ask him how he got where he is. It will have the same effect as this movie times ten and it was totally free.
I really would like to see Precious, but I don't think I can bring myself to watch it in a cinema. I'd rather experience it at home on DVD, because I don't want to risk it being ruined by chavs. That would just depress me even futher...
THAT ARMOND WHITE QUOTE MADE ME SICK TO MY STOMACHE!
At last! I hear Dr K's review of a new release after having already watched it. And I have to say I completely agree with him. Definitely hard to sit though and not easy to enjoy, but a brilliant film. In my opinion it's the kind of film that, although now not much people have seen or heard about, it will still be more remembered and acclaimed in the future than for example one of those romcoms, which nearly all have the same posters, and will be forgotten.
Wow, Armond White's starting to get a bit of worldwide infamy outside of messageboard commentators: first Roger Ebert, now Mark Kermode. How long til he starts appearing on the pages of Total Film and Empire, do you reckon?
@Carfer22: It's all part of the act. Mayo's job is to reign Kermode in, playing the generalist. If that occassionally means being cynical and grumpy, so be it
The thing I find a bit much to bare are the sight of the technicians in the last room, laughing at pretty much everything "witty" that comes out of Mayo's mouth. I know there's no evidence of it in this video, because the situation doesn't really require it, but when you do see them laughing in the backround, it's not that much different to the likes of Chris Evans or Moyles "friends" being paid to laugh at their jokes.
Can't say that I notice that kind of thing much. All I would say is ythat it seems genuine laughter with Mayo, plus it's not like he brings them into the studio to laugh
No Mark! Don't humor Armond!
