  • Damn. I miss the Rivers that wrote songs like this.

  • i sang this song to my ex as i brok up with her. bitter sweet end to a rocky relationship. we are still friends to this day

  • This is so beautiful omg <3

  • :)

  • he's so hott

  • you can see that even though this song is years old and he's married now and all that, it still means so much to him.

  • lmao! what a bitch! poor harpist

  • "Maybe I need fantasy, life of chasing butterfly" The lyricism of this song is just beautiful.

  • wodie alen?

  • I wouldn't mind seeing the opera this song is based on, it would certainly help pinpoint its meaning and whatnot.

  • @AngelusZA i don't know that anything other than the name of the album "pinkerton" is really inspired by the opera (madama butterfly). this song is apparently about a japanese fan that rivers cuomo slept with that was absolutely crazy about him, and he lied to her about coming back to be with her ("I told you I'd return when the robin makes his nest, but I ain't never coming back) and subsequently felt awful about it, as he should have. that being said, what a wonderful song.

  • @ohsnapitseli i thought Rivers was a virgin?

  • @TheVixensMusic

uhhh what? he has a kid.

  • @mellamosean are you sure? if so my universe has just shattered.

  • @TheVixensMusic

haha, is that right? Well, The Great Wikipedia says so. Although, only a virgin would write "Tired of Sex," right?

  • @TheVixensMusic I remember reading an interview saying Rivers slept with about 40 girls in 1996-1997..

  • @Holysweetgoddamn92 No way, you serious? Rivers is so shy I just dont see it

  • @Holysweetgoddamn92 Up until that point or in that year alone?

  • Adding a harp can't cover up the fact that Rivers Cuomo hasn't sang a single note with honest emotion since the summer of 2000.

  • @gogokain It's a shame you're right, but you ARE right.

  • @gogokain What makes you say that? What the hell do you know about what emotions are behind his music?

  • This song is already the saddest and most beautiful Weezer song.... then, you add a harp, and im basically sobbing all over the computer desk

  • @Nzeexruos Well aren't you goddamn special? You just read a Weezer song. Weezer. Let that sink in for a second and you'll realize their simplicity.

  • @Narcisistication Have you talked to people that worship Pinkerton? You should just give up, bro.

  • Fucking autotune

  • One of my favorite Weezer songs! :)

  • she's going too fast! and she isn't looking at him for the tempo! MORE RUBATO!

  • Top rated comment is falsified! Rivers certainly was inspired by Madame Butterfly, and he could very much relate to it, but he never went over to Japan, had teh sex and did all that other stuff. He did however, during course of the Pinkerton tour, have lots of sex with many and various women. This emotionally drained him, etc. and he felt very much like the main character Pinkerton.

  • @MrIndestructible43 No, there actually was a girl who met in Japan. And how could a song that written for the album Pinkerton be ABOUT his experiences on the tour that occurred AFTER the album was written. Trust me, the top rated comment is correct. :P

  • Awesome, beautiful, sad and heart-breaking ...

Three minutes fullified my heart with unforgettable feelings...

    Like a butterfly

  • @MarvelousMatthewWut you probably have no feelings.

  • Who the hell is on the harp?

  • fine harp o..o

  • Gotta love Puccini

  • Butterfly: At what time of the year in America do Robins nest? Sharpless: [amazed] Are you serious? Butterfly: Yes. Sooner or later than here? Sharpless: Tell me why... Butterfly: My husband gave his promise He would return in the joyous season, When robin red-breasts rebuild their nests. Here they have built them thrice already, But I thought that over there, They might do so more rarely. Sharpless: I am sorry but i don't. I never studied ornithology Butterfly: Orni... Sharpless: Thology
  • I wish I could live inside the mind of that one dislike for maybe.. give or take 30 seconds. That would be enough to realize how fucking great my life is.

  • '...you're a bitch' (cut to female harp player)

  • @mymar86 lol.

  • I LOOOOOOOOOOVE RIVERS <3

  • ratitude got mad about getting beat up by pinkerton and pressed the dislike button

  • Pinkerton is one of the best albums ever and this guy is a genious.

  • das ist der grund wieso ich mir das album kaufe

    so schön :(

  • so sad..

  • He maintains his voice so well.

Sounds just like the album, if not better.

  • wow, I'm so glad I stumbled upon this; Rivers is a poetic genius!

  • the last words, are the best in the whole song.

  • Beautiful!! Pinkerton had it all!! Beauty and beast!!

  • This is the most sincere song I've ever heard. I think that's part of what makes it so beautiful.

  • omg.I fall in love with this songs!!!

  • i cried when i saw this performed live <3 pinkerton is my favorite album by weezer because every song has so much meaning behind it! each song has its own story its true artistry (':

  • I never knew Woody Allen sang so beautifully :)

  • Gosh this song is beautiful.

  • absolutely heartwrenching.

  • tears literally come to my eye

every time rivers says "im sorry"

    every time without fail

i tear just a litle bit

  • Yesterday I went outside With my momma's mason jar Caught a lovely Butterfly When I woke up today Looked in on my fairy pet She had withered all away No more sighing in her breast I'm sorry for what I did I did what my body told me to I didn't mean to do you harm Everytime I pin down what I think I want It slips away - the ghost slips away
  • I smell you on my hand for days I can't wash away your scent If I'm a dog then you're a bitch I guess you're as real as me Maybe I can live with that Maybe I need fantasies A life of chasing butterfly I'm sorry for what I did I did what my body told me to I didn't mean to do you harm Everytime I pin down what I think I want It slips away - the ghost slips away I told you I would return When the robin makes his nest But I ain't never coming back I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry
  • Absolutely beautiful.

  • This song is so good that even Rivers himself is invisibly masturbating the song

  • what the fuck's up with this autotune shit?

  • Rivers = gifted. Definition of a classic is to stand the test of time ... Weezer does that!

  • would be better without autotune

  • @afroninja1111 you lost a very good chance to keep shut

  • miss u lots intan zanarita :~(

  • miss u lots intan zanarita :~(

  • I smiled and cried.

  • The one person that disliked this has no soul P:

Such a heartfelt song...Just listen to Rivers "I'm sorry...."

  • What an amazing version of this beautiful song. Rivers is so incredibly gifted musically.

  • it makees me wanna cry, Rivers

  • This is in my top 3 for favorite slow songs by Weezer. And this rendition of it is simply superb! SO GLAD I found it on Youtube tonight.

  • i hope they harp it up on the pinkerton tour for this song

  • @MoogPunch64 samee

check out my new vid-it has details about the blue/pinkerton "blinkerton" tour

    because it sounds to perfect

  • @gomerA7X

rivers always sings live b/c hes amazing and it is perfect

  • Holy shit.

  • goddamn autotune grr

  • @heety9 autotune?

  • OMMFHRSB... I didn't think I'd ever hear this song again in any capacity than Pinkerton itself...

  • haha this going to my ipod. love this song.

  • Unbeatable

  • WOW.

  • this version should be on the album. not the version with guitars and drums

  • @123legodude ...The version on Pinkerton doesn't have drums on it either...

  • Pinkerton is their best by far....

  • Im so glad that no one has thumbs down this :)

  • @srv1959 shut up. people always do when someone points it out

  • @TaBaSc0DrUmZ ok. cool. yeah.

  • You can't duplicate this voice

  • @BreaghDragon Yup, totally agree. Nothing past Pinkerton is anywhere near as good. I'm not saying that just to be an elitist either, it's the truth.

  • @n6901875 Shut it, the green was also amazing.

  • lol. 2.10 was off.

  • This song is about splitting a girl's hymen

  • Rivers is very attractive here! wow

  • @knarisa rivers is always damn attractive

  • This is just unbelievably beautiful !

  • it made me cry

  • it must be a pain in the ass to tune a harp

  • this is so fucking depressed but so awesome

  • weezer's new stuff is not so different from their old stuff (at least for me), so why all the attacks?

  • Weezer's first 2 albums had Rivers trying to write his feeling and the result was alternative rock with no boundries. Since Pinkerton failed, he started writing for the general public instead of himself.

Also, Weezer hasn't sounded like "Weezer" since The Green Album (Though Red got close). The crunchy guitars, the rawness of Rivers's voice and personal lyrics have been replaced by muddy computer generated tones, fine tuned vocals and lyrics that are generic and boring.

  • I know what your saying. But you have take Rivers' pure genius into account. No matter what he gets his point across and what better way to communicate an artists true feelings than through the current trends. Rivers has and always will be unique.

  • if im a dog then your a bitch

    love that.

  • the first time i heard weezer was on late night with jimmy kimmel so i bought the album they were promoting liked them so much i bought all there previous albums they still bring new stuff to music in general always different. id like to see them coop with asian kungfu generation since rivers has ties to japan any who would be cool in my opinion.

  • @bearclawed85 lol nice call they sound similar

  • The harp is awesome! It serves to add to the meditative tone of the song.

  • the songs that make me feel like I wanna cry are the ones that me or a someone I know can relate to... something happened to my friend is perfectly described in this song :(

  • This song is based on the play Madame Butterfly, which Rivers wept uncontrollably when he watched it for the first time. It's about a sailor that made false promises to a young girl for sex. Rivers relates this to himself. He was over in Japan once and slept with a young girl who loved him and made promises to return and so on. He promised her that it wasn't a one night stand even though he knew that it was and he realized how much he hurt her. The butterfly in this song is that naive girl.

  • @glimpseEDICT One of the most interesting things I've ever heard about RIvers.

Where did you get this info from?

  • @ericmsandoval he made it up lol

  • @glimpseEDICT Uh, I don't think your facts are quite straight, there.

  • @glimpseEDICT and you know that... how?

  • @glimpseEDICT very true glimpse and to add the characters name was Pinkerton.

  • This song is extremely beautiful and I think the angel and the one off of the red album is beautiful as well. I think he still has it he is just under so much pressure from the label to produce more music that he is only putting forth an eighth of his ability.

  • first song hes done from pinkerton in ages

  • every time i pinned down what i think i wanted slips away!

  • i love this song..

  • You just expect him to belt some big note out! :L

He's a great singer, the way its just him and the harp really shows that :)

  • its like this song is about me and all the ladys I've been trying 2 talk 2 for the last year. Chasing perfect butterflys that always slip away. I guess your as real as me. Please know I never wanted 2 do U any harm

  • I'm sorry

  • Comment removed

  • ohh what beautliful song !!!

  • Amazing.

  • this song is amazing. especially with the harp.

i believe in creative freedom and all that, i think weezer should do what it wants to, but i don't know why they don't want to do more like pinkerton.

  • I agree with the general fan idea that Pinkerton is their best, and IMO, it's one of the best albums EVER released, and very honest.

However, Rivers will never write it again. He wrote it at one of the saddest points of his life, feeling like a loner; it's almost an anti-rockstar record, I mean, what rock singer sings a song called Tired of Sex?

But now he's happy, married, a father, and enjoying music itself. He'll make happy songs for now, which isn't a bad thing IMO.

  • @irishbug14 true that man..i hope Rivers is happy

  • @irishbug14 well said sir lol

  • @irishbug14 you make a great point about any rockstars lyrics, and now rivers is getting his song ideas from his daughters lack of speaking ability (where's my sex), where she meant to say "whers my socks", i guess its not the same

  • @idobbsutube Where's My Sex is easily the worst track on Hurley. But that, Smart Girls, and arguably Memories are the only bad tracks. The rest of Hurley is redeeming enough to make it my 3rd favorite album by Weezer.

  • Haha

  • no. this is TERRIFIC!!

    great sense of sarcasm buddy!

  • Makes me wanna sigh.....I'm sorry....

  • Beautiful

  • Rivers perform so much better when he's not in front of a crowd. Love his voice <3

  • One of my favorite Weezer songs. So much emotion.

  • A Perfect song,Sad and perfect,i had no word for this beautiful song,Good For Ya Weezer,Hope One Day Write a song like "Butterfly"...

  • I like how he's jacking off a huge imaginary penis while he's singing. So symbolic :~(

  • He's keeping time, moron.

  • Rivers is always "keeping time" for himself, for the rest of the band, all over his albums, on T.V., on the internet, with his career. I mean, the guy's a serious time keeper.

  • @kevintarzandotier rofl, are you talk'in about the way his arms move?

  • Oh God this song... It reminds me of such a sad time in my life.

  • I want Rivers to get Weezer away from Geffen records and release that inner Brian Wilson madness that's in his head. This is just proof that he has it, and he does. He is capable of Pet Sounds II... now get to work Rivers, lol.

  • @TheGreatGallbo you have just hit the nail on the head,

can just imagine rivers in a sand pit

  • Wish granted. They've parted so Raditude is the last album they have done with them

  • Raditude was their last album in their contract.

either they'll renew or sign with other label.

    i hope it's the latter.

  • What makes this song even sadder is that it was played alongside Can't Stop Partying and I'm Your Daddy.

  • what a great song, as far as im concerned weezer is a flat out great band. when it comes down to it who cares what other people think about musical tastes its all opinion anyway...

  • That's what I'm talkin about!

  • Comment removed

  • One of the best songs ever =)

  • Rivers, we need more of this.

    Less corporate teenybopper madness.

    More musical genius.

  • This is fucking incredible. whatever anyone thinks of weezer nowadys, the guy can still sing.

  • This is proof Rivers has still got something brilliant going on in that brain of his.

  • @n6901875 this is from Pinkerton, face it, Weezer is done being good.

  • @n6901875 he wrote this 14 years ago

  • @LeeCanterProductions I know that. It's the final song on Pinkerton, which is one of my favourite albums. Don't try and correct me when you don't know what I meant. What I meant was that he is still able to give a performance with emotion. Rather than prancing around with just a microphone singing soulless songs.

  • @n6901875 retard, this is Pinkerton.

  • @harrysnuffelbeer he knows he just said it was off pinkerton

  • @n6901875 that was the most mature response i've ever read on youtube. seriously. and i agree 100% about how unnecessary the whole running around thing is. it's funny how he was one of those rare lead guitarist front man, and now he doesn't even play it live most of the time.

  • so good. rivals the original.

  • Comment removed

  • This one's for the fans, I'm sure

  • epic

  • Rivers has still got it.

  • i love weezer!

  • o yeah...this is why Rivers is a lyrical genuis.

I wish he would bring back Pinkerton era music!!!

Or at leastttttt finish his rock opera :((((

  • Just beautiful, amazing....wow. Bravo!
