SNL can be funny, it depends on the topic. MADtv was great when it had people like Mo Collins, Stephanie Weir, Debrah Wilson; after several years and all their better actors moving on, and replacements that weren't much better (Although Nicole Parker and Jordan Peele were pretty decent), it just turned into a show that had stupid skits that weren't even remotely funny.

SNL may not always be funny, but it's combination of popular actors, musicians, and it live airing really brings a level of merit to it that MadTV, or FOX for that matter, never really had. MadTV was very funny, and it lasted so long because it was a SPOOF machine. Everything from music videos, movies, to shows. The level of mimicry really made it relatable to young people. But it was never able to go beyond that. It had a hysterical, talented cast but it was conceived and executed differently.

It's funny how NO ONE remembers those final two AWFUL seasons of MadTV. SNL is still on because it still makes money. MadTV stopped being profitable. Also, SNL still manages to capture the eye of pop culture. MadTV was never able to do that. Also, Mad and SNL have very different sensabilities when it comes to humor. SNL hasn't been very good in a long time, but because it's live it is able to comment on things sooner also (the death of Gadafi and Bin Laden for one). CONTINUED.

It takes an incredible amount of talent not just to write these skits, but also for the actors to impersonate the voices, tones, accents, facial expressions, mannerisms, body language and habits of the real-life celebrities. Major props to Mad TV. This show really should be still on the air.

@stonebridge999 yeah, i loved it back when the women were really big. molly shannon, cheri oteri, maya rudolph, ana gasteyer and racher dratch where all really amazing. after around 02-03 tho, it just really went downhill. madtv however, got better each and every year. i'll never understand how it wasn't more popluar than it was. however it appears that there's a huge online fan community for it like us tho, and i'm happy whoever owns the rights to it lets these vids stay up.
