@B6ka LOL if you hold the directional buttons you go too fast. Stan explains this - you can't see where you're going and you end up hitting into stuff and losing the holes you're trying to collect. It's like the ground is made of slippery ice or something - really poor game design. The only way to play it is to tap tap tap the directional keys, but it doesn't make it any easier. I suggest you try it again by tapping the directional keys, and you'll see it remains impossible. Fucking awful game.

The trick is to put some honey on the buttons so that they become sticky and as you press them you can instantly pull them back so you do not run into enemies. Glue also does the trick but is only recommended to the most dedicated fans of the game. A totally different approach (suggested by Zelimkhan) is to pierce your fingers with a rusty needle so that your fingers hurt if you hold the buttons too long.

@B6ka Probably a different controller was intended for release with this game, but Sonic proved to be so shitty and such a flop that they decided to suggest modifications to the original controller instead. Weren't Honey and Needles intended as characters in the aborted sequel? There you go - it's all marketing bullshit. I used to play Alex Kidd in Miracle World with barbed wire tickling the inside of my urethra - now THAT'S control.

You do know that in order to defeat an enemy, you just jump on them? The spinning flowers don't hurt you. The yellow springs are objects that you jump on.If you get stuck at a ramp or one of the circular ramps, you just go back as far as you can and run back at it. This game is so easy. I've beaten this game like 26 times when I was like 6.Don't slow yourself down. Sonic is famous for speed and every one of his games are based on speed.

I don't think anybody is that stupid to not know what to do. I was three years old, and I knew how to play Sonic 2, or at least the basics of the game. I know this is Sonic 1 (the Genesis version), so saying this makes me several notches higher by saying Sonic 2, because that game is literally an upgrade over Sonic 1 as well as the first video game I've ever played.

It's always good to make fun of kid/teen gamers and their stupid attitude towards old-skool 2D games.

Sonic1 is a classic - and an easy game. A lot of gamers these days play games that lead you by the hand and require no real skill. When skills aren't really required - you don't get an adrenaline rush - which renders the whole game experience unsatisfying.

Modern videogames are generally interactive 'experiences', rather than proper skill based games.
