paspax...bang on there mate.I live in Thailand where we have 2 million Burmese living here. They understand that if they want to live in Australia then they need to apply for refugee status with the U.N. in a refugee camp and wait their turn. And they don't burn down those camps either because they know what the consequences are...i.e. being sent back to Burma.
All "asylum seeker" illegal immigrants could easily have found a safe place to live in any one of the many countries through which they pass before reaching Australia. This alone proves they are economic migrants, & therefore not genuine "asylum seekers".
@splendidmate Wow you open your gob and proved you were an idiot,.... should have kept it shut... Handful??? They are also coming from Sri Lanka which we have had nothing to do with, what about disease control, what about an easy way in for terrorists (remember... no papers). Are we helping to ruin Afganhistan? Ask the Australia soldiers there, or perhaps ask the millions women who are no longer terrorised by the taliban. Dont get me started on economic refugees..... reply if you dare....
@breadbaker226 "Are we helping to ruin Afganhistan?" - Yes, over half a million of them died as a result of the so called war, the Taliban still exist and the country's new leader is a violent asshole who kills people that disagree with him.
"They are also coming from Sri Lanka which we have had nothing to do with" - so you only help people when you've already fucked them over? wow you're a great person.
"what about an easy way in for terrorists" - terrorism? are you serious?
@splendidmate Yes Terrorists dimwit, why not...great way to get in, already found in the camps in Indonesia, great breeding place... Yes the Taliban exists, but not at the level as before and girls are now allowed to attend school... got something against that? How many died before the allied intervention (in Afganistan)and was it a slight breeding ground for terrorism eh? Afganistan for all its faults (its not perfect) is still a lot better than before.
@splendidmate And now "Economic Refugees"... how is it that these refugees can afford between $10,000 and $30,000 for a ticket on a leaky boat??? Remember no jobs in these camps.... Why are they refugees... when they can travel thru many countries to reach the 6 star hotel called Australia which gifts like free Centrelink for all. If I was an Afgan escaping torment in my country then I would head to a similar place (Islamic) like Pakistan. If I was a Tamil tiger escaping Sri Lanka....
@splendidmate then I would be heading for someplace like India, similar culture... and close, sure not as cosy as Australia, but safe from Sri Lanka. Why is is that these people "lose" all their documents before they get picked up in Australian waters... that sure sounds suspect.... Again see "Terrorists....." They sure must love fools like you
@breadbaker226 What does the method they use to come here have to do with the likelihood that they are terrorists? If they are just queue jumpers, send them back sure... but I've seen how bad these detention centres are. We lock up people who are just trying to escape certain death in what can only be described as a cross between a hospital and a prison. People are committing suicide in these centres in increasing numbers and the only solution SERCO can come up with is to give them some pills.
@splendidmate The answer is.... don't come here... go elsewhere... closer to previous home would be a good start......
The method they used has nothing to do with them being a terrorist, but terrorists will use any and all methods to get in. But of course they like this method because they can "lose" their documentation... whereas at an airport they would be challeneged... make sense....
@breadbaker226 And come on... what are the odds of a terrorist actually carrying out an attack that comes even close to the death toll of iraq and afghanistan combined? We have that blood on our hands, we can afford to let a few people into our country and we have the wealth to sustain them. They make up the smallest amount of our immigration.
@splendidmate Why does it (an attack) have to even come close to the death toll in Iraq or Afghanistan??? I would have thought you are comparing apples with oranges here.
We have blood on our hands... and proudly so, every dead Taliban is great stuff, send them to Allah ASAP. A "few people"...?.... over a thousand so far and counting.... If we have the wealth (actually debt from overseas borrowings) to sustain them, then why have we got roads with potholes in them, such bad traffic problems,
@splendidmate pensioners who are eating dog food, Police, nurses and teachers all protesting in the streets for lack of pay, when the State Govt can't afford to pay them, not enough money to build Hospitals and freeways, the list goes on and on... Get real mate, you are a symptom of why the ALP and Greens are on the nose with the majority of voters now.... live in the real world for gods sake
@breadbaker226 The state government is Liberal, and they are the ones responsible for screwing the police, nurses and teachers out of the pay they deserve. They are also privatising our power generators to make a quick buck because they know they can blame rising power costs on the carbon tax. What's next, private water? oh wait the Liberal party already wants to do that... i mean really our state government has been stale for the past decade and if anything the liberals are worse
@splendidmate Yes Liberal for the last 9 months and what a relief they have been, so many speed cameras closed down. Why do you think the police nurses and teachers are complaining, because the previous State ALP Govt bankrupted the state and now Barry has to fix this, so blame it on KK and previous corrupt and inept ALP premiers who were asleep at the wheel. Don't forget the useless DeSalination plant costing more than $1 Billion hasn't stopped raining since they opened it...
@splendidmate The Carbon Tax and the rising electricity is all a result of the cosy deal between Gillard and Queen Bob... so don't try and pin any of that on Big Barry. The ALP State Govt has already tried to sell of the power system... I think the going price was around $1.50 or thereabouts (thanks to that dumb state ALP treasurer). Also the Planning Laws of the ALP has been scrapped by big Barry, so no more Govt riding roughshod over the people with inappropriate developments. Ahhh soo good..
@splendidmate Isn't it amazing how good a little democracy is, and your mate Gillard and Bligh are going to get another spoon full of medicine soon with the QLD election in 3 months, as the voters will bring out the baseball bats for the ALP again, like they did in NSW and also Victoria... seems those ALP supporters are getting a little thin on the ground.
@breadbaker226 If you stop raging for a moment, you'll realise that I'm not some polar opposite that you need to throw all your bs Liberal Party propaganda at. I'm not a fan of either party, nor am i a fan of the constant slashing of public spending or the privatisation of essential services. I urge you to hold the Liberals accountable for their decisions and not to buy into their excuses and simply blame the previous government.
@splendidmate When you start critising the ALP I will start to listen to you, but currently they are empty words.... I am not a 100% supporter of he Liberals, but they are far and away better than the ALP. Until something better comes along I will support big Barry and his team. PS I was an ALP supporter until Paul Keating became PM, even campaigning for Bob Hawke. Also I was a Greenie in the late 70's until I became disenchanted with their politics.... I am still an environmentalist.
@breadbaker226 Furthermore, you're forgetting the divide between state and federal government and taking a liberal vs labour approach. The Liberal government of nsw has to be held accountable for the things they are doing. As long as they can keep saying 'It's Labour's fault' and people like you buy into it, they can get away with anything. The carbon tax will encourage green tech and open a new market, just wait and see. If you're rich, you might be $10 worse off... boohoo.
@splendidmate Unfortunately until recently just about every bloody Govt was ALP, state and Federal. Big Barry deserves to be judged in 3.5 years time until then give him a go, he is not perfect, but a damn sight better than what he replaced and I will support him until the next election and judge him then. Currently I like what he is doing 70% good, 30% bad... a lot better than ALP which is around 3% good and 97% bad...
@splendidmate I am not a believer in Global warming induced by Carbon emissions, and I do not support a Tax based on this. Yes a new Green industry will flourish articially supported by a Carbon and biased policies... what new industry would not flourish under that regime. But it will destroy or remove manufacturing and jobs from Australia... as they are incompetitive, they will simply move O/S to a low tax country like China... bloody well done and the rise in unemployment will be sickening.
@breadbaker226 It sounds like you've bought right into the fear campaign... may i ask why you don't believe in manmade global warming when an overwhelming majority of scientists say it exists? are you aware of how many jobs will actually be created as a result of the tax?
@splendidmate My question to you... Do you know how many jobs will be lost? I know there will be some created (articficially created). The scientists who preach the Carbon induced warming are Government or Govt paid scientists. I disagree it is a majority or an overwhelming majority, The Government ones are the only ones with a Govt paid voice to the media, the others are shouted down (almost vilified) including many PHD scientists. Chicken little said the sky is falling in...
@breadbaker226 so you're saying that there is some sort of conspiracy going on where govt scientists are paid to preach global warming? you say including 'many PHD scientists' as though someone with a PHD is incapable of using flawed methodology to arrive at their conclusions or simply stating an ill informed opinion. PNAS found: on average, people who deny ACC (Anthropogenic Climate Change) are less qualified and; 97% of climate scientists believe in ACC.
@splendidmate Wrong, I don't belive in conspiracy's (generally), Scientists generally do what is good for their funding and the hip pocket... and keeping the Govt happy is number one for their funding (like CSIRO). Ever heard of the saying Lies, Damn Lies and Statistics...... eh!
@breadbaker226 Jobs will be lost yes, but more will be created than are lost. Do you know how many jobs there are in the solar industry alone? hint: a shitload.
@splendidmate Don't agree... Yes there will be some artificially created by the inbuilt bias in the system by the mad Gillard?Brown Govt, but I believe that FAR more will be lost by the killing of our manufacturing industry in this country and sending it and the jobs O/S.
@breadbaker226 Well there's nothing to really do now except wait for the tax to go through and see what happens. Since other countries have implemented a tax and life goes on for them, I can't help but think all this outrage is simply Mr Abbott getting butt hurt over his election loss. He was actually one of a few people who in the past has supported a carbon tax. He's just anti everything, including the mining tax which australians have a right to.
@splendidmate Well in NZ, they are rolling back their measures and it is at a much lower rate (I think $10 per tonne compared to our $26 per tonne). I think there are not many countries with this tax, can you name them and their rates? Wouldn't you be pissed if you were TA? Especially since Rudd and Gillard are merrily destroying the country and if an election was held now or 6 months ago they would have been creamed like in NSW last March. Is Gillard afraid of Democracy...? Tony is not!
@breadbaker226 Tony is most certainly afraid of democracy, which is why he spreads misinformation, propaganda and senseless negativity on a daily basis. If people really knew what he was all about, I doubt they would vote for him. He's just another visionless idiot and i am disgusted with Labour's inability to sell themselves to the public.
@splendidmate Misinformation, propaganda and sensless negativity... only in your eyes. If an election was held now or 6 months ago he would have cleaned up big time... I think he is not scared of democracy.... he welcomes it
@splendidmate I am also against the mining tax as all it will do is make things uneconomic for the big companies and stop developments from happening, drive companies to lower taxed countries and develop their resources instead of our. Mining is the only thing keeping the economy going at the moment and Gillard want to get her dirty hands on it because the ALP have wasted so much money and are in so much debt, they need the tax to help their much promised balanced budget for swanny boy.
@breadbaker226 Ok so you've bought into the anti mining tax campaign as well. Where exactly are these big companies going to go when we have a quarter of the world's uranium along with a shitload of other minerals. It's just a ridiculous empty threat designed to scare people such as yourself. It's almost like people are treating the economy like it's some kind of god, worshipping it and getting angry at anything that could even slightly change it.
@splendidmate "Bought into"... ? I make up my own mind buddy, you obviously know best, so I am not going to waste me fingertips trying to change you, BUT the Australian people WILL change the Govt at the next election (if not sooner if Craig Thomson falls on his sword or if Wilkie finds his balls). Get used to it - Tony Abbott PM of Australia, and yes I will happily buy you a one way ticket to leave our shores...
@splendidmate No I don't want you out of the country, but I suspect once you get a taste of Tony's medicine, you may want to leave... massive douche???
@breadbaker226 He is so backward in so many ways... unfortunately people don't care about his policies, they just want the current government out. I hope Labour at least chooses to work with him rather than just say no to everything he says out of spite, then we might at least see some progress under his lead.
@splendidmate I am also against the NBN as it will only benefit some people and some businesses for a huge cost (up to $60 Billion), all so that some people can watch movies on the internet... wow!!! or 5% of business that needs super high speed will benefit. I have cable broadband and Telstra is already very fast now. Don't forget that the weakest link in the speed chain will then be the computer internals...
@breadbaker226 The NBN is just bringing us up to the standard of the rest of the world. You only think your internet is fast because you've never experienced anything better...
If people such as yourself weren't scared shitless of taxes, even when the tax doesn't directly affect you, we'd have upgraded the internet a long time ago. We'd also probably have a half decent train service instead of having the worst in the western world.
@splendidmate Well well well you have been squeezed thru the ALP die haven't you. If you love taxes so bloody much you can pay mine, thanks....
What about wirless with very high speeds in the USA, much cheaper than Gillard and co... sounds to me if Gillard took a crap in front of the camera's you would find a way to justify it...
@breadbaker226 It's not that I'm so pro ALP, it's that you are pro Liberal... I happen to think high speed internet is a good idea. It needs upgrading, so they're doing it. They may have spent more than they should have but at least we're going to have internet that is on par with the rest of the world, instead of internet that on average is around 1-5% of the average speed in Japan or america.
And I believe in progressive tax, not the tax that affects the everyday joe.
@splendidmate not so pro ALP....? again I say it you don't seem to be critising Gillard , you just seem to hate Tony Abbott... I think you need to visit a therpist to find out what you REALLY think.
If High speed internet is worthwhile then make it wireless, get the same speed for less than a 10th of the cost. In the USA they have a new satellite which gives same speed as NBN for far less..... if the NBN is so right why the the Government NOT do a cost benefit assessment??????
@breadbaker226 Furthermore, if tony abbott is so pro democracy, why doesn't he lay his policies out on the table? is he scared that people will think they suck? At least the Greens put all their policies on their website... everyone should have to do that imo. That and corporate donations should be banned.
@splendidmate What major party do you know that lays out all its policies (until just) before an election... please name them? The greens got a massive corporate donation from some guy I can't remember just now, but I remember I wrote to the company at the time complaining about the secretive style of the donation. I just looked at the Liberal website, at least 6 major policies, not including opposing the Carbon Tax, NBN and Gillards plan for boat people... get your facts straight mate....
@breadbaker226 you do know that most of the world's refugees end up in territories very close to their country of origin? you also know that often due to their circumstances refugees have little time to gain documents and often there is not even an australian consular presence in their countries to gain documents from. you do also know that the majority of australia's refugees arrive by plane, with documents?
@rococonroll Its not a fear campaign , its investigation of logical facts. When questioned most of these IPCC findings fall over quickly. Read the literature and there is plenty out there. This is the greatest Con this century, and in Gillards case she got a nice big tax thru on the back of this con-job. Governments just love a nice big fat tax especially when they are trying to balance the budget at all costs after such mammoth waste in the last 4 years.... why are they scared of an election?
@breadbaker226 Ok fine, support your Liberal government and see what they do. My prediction is that they will further slash public spending, reintroduce some variant of work choices, destroy TAFE (although Barry has already done that by bringing in contract work) and privatise a bunch of public assetts. In fact, let's just get rid of government entirely, then there will be no tax!
@breadbaker226 wow, such a dramatic way of putting it... oh we've lost control because we're being invaded by a handful of innocent refugees fleeing from a country we helped ruin, whatever will we do? better lock them up in case they have some kind of sneaky refugee plot!
No boat arrivals to Australia can be considered as refugees or for asylum (except Kiwis, Indonesians & PNGers) because they did not arrive directly from their country of origin in accordance with UN reg's. They are all therefore illegal immigrant criminals.
Detention is legal. Deportation is mandatory. Access to the courts should be illegal for illegal non-citizen criminals.
Look at how most European states deal wit this scum. Cells then deportation. No court, no phone call. Bloody beautiful.
@paspax just wondering where you get your argument that they're breaking un regulations since the 1951 convention doesn't have anything about needing to arrive directly from your country of origin?
also wondering why you think detention is legal since the same convention says that refugees have the right to freedom of movement within the territory they claim asylum?
also the european court of human rights does oversee refugee cases and very few countries in europe deport so um ???
@rococonroll "the 1951 convention doesn't have anything about needing to arrive directly from your country of origin"
Actually it does
"wondering why you think detention is legal"
All "boat people" are illegal immigrants & therefore criminals. It is perfectly lawful to detain them in prisons & police cells. We give them a holiday camp environment to make us look all warm & fuzzy
When they say "asylum" we process their claim. They can move freely when they are granted asylum by us.
@3977wampy I guess because, to start with, we'd need that country's permission to do that and also because it's probably not the only place that they're coming from.

Get used to it - Tony Abbott PM of Australia, and yes I will happily buy you a one way ticket to leave our shores...
breadbaker226 1 month ago
@breadbaker226 so you want me out of the country just because i think Tony Abbott is a massive douche? I have nothing against you man lol.
splendidmate 1 month ago
@splendidmate No I don't want you out of the country, but I suspect once you get a taste of Tony's medicine, you may want to leave... massive douche???
breadbaker226 1 month ago
@breadbaker226 He is so backward in so many ways... unfortunately people don't care about his policies, they just want the current government out. I hope Labour at least chooses to work with him rather than just say no to everything he says out of spite, then we might at least see some progress under his lead.

@splendidmate I am also against the NBN as it will only benefit some people and some businesses for a huge cost (up to $60 Billion), all so that some people can watch movies on the internet... wow!!! or 5% of business that needs super high speed will benefit. I have cable broadband and Telstra is already very fast now. Don't forget that the weakest link in the speed chain will then be the computer internals...
breadbaker226 1 month ago
@breadbaker226 The NBN is just bringing us up to the standard of the rest of the world. You only think your internet is fast because you've never experienced anything better...
If people such as yourself weren't scared shitless of taxes, even when the tax doesn't directly affect you, we'd have upgraded the internet a long time ago. We'd also probably have a half decent train service instead of having the worst in the western world.
splendidmate 1 month ago
@splendidmate Well well well you have been squeezed thru the ALP die haven't you. If you love taxes so bloody much you can pay mine, thanks....
What about wirless with very high speeds in the USA, much cheaper than Gillard and co... sounds to me if Gillard took a crap in front of the camera's you would find a way to justify it...
breadbaker226 1 month ago
@breadbaker226 It's not that I'm so pro ALP, it's that you are pro Liberal... I happen to think high speed internet is a good idea. It needs upgrading, so they're doing it. They may have spent more than they should have but at least we're going to have internet that is on par with the rest of the world, instead of internet that on average is around 1-5% of the average speed in Japan or america.
And I believe in progressive tax, not the tax that affects the everyday joe.
splendidmate 1 month ago
@splendidmate not so pro ALP....? again I say it you don't seem to be critising Gillard , you just seem to hate Tony Abbott... I think you need to visit a therpist to find out what you REALLY think.
If High speed internet is worthwhile then make it wireless, get the same speed for less than a 10th of the cost. In the USA they have a new satellite which gives same speed as NBN for far less..... if the NBN is so right why the the Government NOT do a cost benefit assessment??????
breadbaker226 1 month ago
@breadbaker226 Furthermore, if tony abbott is so pro democracy, why doesn't he lay his policies out on the table? is he scared that people will think they suck? At least the Greens put all their policies on their website... everyone should have to do that imo. That and corporate donations should be banned.
splendidmate 1 month ago
@splendidmate What major party do you know that lays out all its policies (until just) before an election... please name them? The greens got a massive corporate donation from some guy I can't remember just now, but I remember I wrote to the company at the time complaining about the secretive style of the donation. I just looked at the Liberal website, at least 6 major policies, not including opposing the Carbon Tax, NBN and Gillards plan for boat people... get your facts straight mate....
breadbaker226 1 month ago
@breadbaker226 you do know that most of the world's refugees end up in territories very close to their country of origin? you also know that often due to their circumstances refugees have little time to gain documents and often there is not even an australian consular presence in their countries to gain documents from. you do also know that the majority of australia's refugees arrive by plane, with documents?
rococonroll 2 months ago
@rococonroll Its not a fear campaign , its investigation of logical facts. When questioned most of these IPCC findings fall over quickly. Read the literature and there is plenty out there. This is the greatest Con this century, and in Gillards case she got a nice big tax thru on the back of this con-job. Governments just love a nice big fat tax especially when they are trying to balance the budget at all costs after such mammoth waste in the last 4 years.... why are they scared of an election?
breadbaker226 1 month ago
@breadbaker226 Ok fine, support your Liberal government and see what they do. My prediction is that they will further slash public spending, reintroduce some variant of work choices, destroy TAFE (although Barry has already done that by bringing in contract work) and privatise a bunch of public assetts. In fact, let's just get rid of government entirely, then there will be no tax!
splendidmate 1 month ago
@splendidmate Because your so biased your prediction is not worth anything....
breadbaker226 1 month ago
@splendidmate PS I loved work choices and would have it back in a minute...

Since the ALP came in we don't control our borders, and the ALP doesn't give a shit
breadbaker226 3 months ago

Bloody beautiful.
paspax 4 months ago

Why don't we process the asylum seekers in Indonesia before they get on the boats? Then we can put them on a plane instead of a leaky boat.

@3977wampy I guess because, to start with, we'd need that country's permission to do that and also because it's probably not the only place that they're coming from.
