  • dude, can u make an innstrution for this, or send me a vid, u are exelent at building, u used a unique hilt design, and i love it

  • thunbs up if you think thay look real :D

  • @knucklesishere Aaaaand thumbs up if you think I look like Jesus the Wookie, hahahah

Mmy GAWD look at mah hair... all that... for a live staged combat performance, lol

  • Hi I am a novice at this but I ripped out my battery pack and the writes came out from the top do you know how to put it back and its kit fistos if that helps.

  • @kyubbi090 If you want to DIY... you'd need a soldering iron, learn how to solder, and also identify precisely what wires broke. It isn't too hard to do yourself, but... you may prefer to look on the FX-Sabers site to find someone who you can hire to repair it.

  • Wow! It's amazing how far CF has come over the years yet you can't deny the CF1 was still pretty bad ass back then.

  • @mhalo5 Boy, you sure said something! :)

Indeed, this video makes me laugh (not only because of my hair)... because this is how it all got started with sound fonts and the amazing things that Erv was able to do with his electronics background & Crystal Focus.

And yup, CFv1.2 was indeed an awesome thing!

  • man these are very impressive,

  • your a big sw fan now what do you think of treckys

  • you could do a stronger flash light when two sabers collide!!!

  • @JRPianist Actually, it's funny you mention that... on the upgraded versions of these sabers (remember: the video you are watching is FOUR years old!), they certainly *DO* flash upon impact--much brighter than the "normal" glow itself.

You can see this effect on many sabers today (and in my videos). The feature was actually pioneered by myself, Erv and a fellow who goes by Eandori. It was implemented into the Crystal Focus driver board ~2008 or so.

  • i like it how lady gaga is in the suggestion videos at the bottom

  • @7871wonderlandbob I know, huh?! What the hell. I guess it's just youtube doing the shameless "Let's pretend that all the videos in the sidebar are relevant. People are stupid--they'll never know."

Survey SAAAAAAAYYYSSS.... *innnnnnnnnnnhhhh*!!! WRONG!! We ~do~ know, youtube! lmao

  • @greytale Hate to admit it but dude that is pretty cool I must admit.

  • @SuperGuitarman69 Interesting... you "hate to admit it"? Why is that...

  • @greytale because I am 42 and grew up with Star Wars and I still dig the while light saber thing

  • @SuperGuitarman69 Well, even Einstein said that imagination is more important than (current) knowledge... :)

A lot of what has been--and is still--happening in terms of the LED saber community forwards the innovation, features, technology, and overall "bettering" of these crazy props! :)

For me, they are most useful for live performances and demos... but what's truly amazing to me is what a simple "rogue" group of individual designers have done... vs. your typical prop companies...

  • @greytale Well in all seriousness hear. I am a fan. At 11 years old a 15 dollar light saber would have been awesome. Now? 300 bucks is nothing to me. But if I am going to buy a few of these things I need to defer to your expertise. I would like to buy one that is really authentic looking. Tough as well. I have noticed some lights up from the handle up. I like that. But others prefer the brighter look of the metal light part. In your opinion, honestly, what do you think?

  • @SuperGuitarman69 Hmm... there are many people I could refer you to, but... why don't you start with a gent we call "Madcow". Look up genesis custom sabers...

Perhaps Rob will be able to suit your needs. Hell, tell him "Novastar" sent you...

  • IMPORTANT NOTE -- As of 3/23/2011, I cannot fix the stupid youtube annotations. No matter what I do... they do not "position" properly, even though I am (clearly) putting them in the correct places.

*sigh* Youtube. They just can't get ANYTHING right for more than a month or two. Then... they fuck it all up again... and again... and again... and AGAIN... lol

    --Novastar

  • HOLY F**K THAT WAS SWIFT MOVES

  • OMG (OH MY GOD)

  • you look just like desmond from LOST

  • @Nightmare1890 Must be the long hair... I ain't no supermodel actor dude or whatever, hahahah

  • yeah you are a nerd but I like it =) whats the music in the back?

  • @pupskannake this one is basically "Yoda's Theme" from the ESB soundtrack, although I don't know specifically what John Williams called it.

  • HOLY CRAP I WANT ONE SO BAD!

  • Jeez ur hair was soo long back then

  • @TheBFXfan25 hellz yah it was, hahah. :) I grew it out just to look "different" for the BOP II performances...

  • @greytale

Can you upgrade a Master Replicas Lightsaber with the crystal focus soundboard?

  • @NatashaFatale59 Yes and no.

Yes, if you mean to completely remove the electronics... and probably the lighting system (although it CAN be done without changing the lighting system). Additionally, another button needs to be added for Crystal Focus to function properly.

No, if you hope to simply remove the FX board and "just swap it out". It won't be so easy... Crystal Focus is LEAGUES more complicated and FAR superior vs. the toy-bought prop... :)

    --Novastar

  • if any burgerlers break in they'd be fucked

  • @ALEG0Man360 hahahah, maybe only from the sheer surprise of those things igniting + the brightness of the light!!!

That might give me the short moment I need to whack 'em in the balls with a steel pipe... :D

    --Novastar

  • @greytale thats what i meant if there not smart theyd think light sabres exist :Dx2

  • @ALEG0Man360 just the brightness alone of a few of my sabers are enough to (literally!) stun your eyes for a few seconds if you're coming at me from complete darkness... so... yeah--you would NOT want to be surprised from behind by one of these things... it'd give me ample time to KYTFO... :)

  • he is the first sith lord

  • i wanna have 2 of these ._.

  • do you ever have them on ebay.. id be interested in buying some ... I am not a tech guy.. so id rather just buy some.. if you ever sold any

  • damn bro you go off on that shit bad ass keep up the great work.

  • ME WANTY!!!! :'(

  • Your not that much of a nerd, i'm a LARPer to i'm right there with ya. Tho I have too say, i've only found these sabers in the last three days and I'm hooked.

  • Big fan with best Skill of light saber....

  • Damn. I've been dreaming to get one of that. *sob

  • seriously, would you consider making me a lightsaber capable of sparring without screwing it up, for American currency?

  • i like it

  • nice hair, lol

  • Which track is this song

  • Oh man, Where did He/you found how to fight like that :O ( PM ME !!!!)

  • Zabuzato... honestly, that is *NOT* any kind of fighting, lol... I was just screwing around to demonstrate the sabers, and... overall pretty excited how well everything came out... :)

You can see some staged combat in the "Balance of Power" productions I put together... but unfortunately, not much of what you see in the movies or theatrical productions amounts to actual "fighting", heheh.

Closest I do to "real sparring" is sport sabre fencing...

    --Novastar

  • @greytale Thank'x :) and , that cool to see Active users ;) ( Your stuff is awesome btw)

  • very nice

  • Greytale, would you say the RO is brighter than the green?I saw one from Vader'sVault "Killer Bee" and he said the RO are brightest.

  • Color has very little to do with brightness. What DOES affect brightness in a big way is the amount of "dies" that are on an LED.

This differs from LED to LED. For example, a properly driven Lux III Red is nowhere NEAR as bright as a properly or over-driven Lux V Green or Blue. This is because the Lux V is constructed differently.

The quality and type of the LED help best determine major brightness differences. Cost & power consumption also rise with this, though... :)

  • Very nice green colour. By the way is luxeon 5 very bright?

  • Luxeon V LEDs are very bright... as far as I know, they are basically 4 Lux I LEDs under one dome, wired in series and in parallel.

You can see a video of mine demonstrating a Luxeon V "direct drive" @ 1280mA.

  • awesome sabers?

  • "its like bruce lee now" roflmao thats great.

  • God... what was I SAYING?!?!?! hahahah...

I guess I was "feelin' the power" of crossing those things up with all the sound and lights for the first time, and... it was fun to play around for once since I'm always workin', heheh....

  • lol i thought it was great. fun stuff, at least you didnt say it was "chuck norris" now. hehe

  • dude crystal focus rocks i want to put it in a saber so bad but i havent built a saber yet so i think i should learn to make a not so fancy saber first

  • It's not too fancy... just a few sink tubes + a custom blade holder + LED heatsink/mount... and a bunch of detail work to disguise the "basic-ness" of it all. :)

  • Funny demostration!

    =)

  • sweet lightsaber dude, you rock, respect man.

    greet's from Belgium

  • nova 4 evaaaaaaaa! like you and your vids :D

and your awesome..."Sink tube sabers :D

  • cool sweet sabers.. btw i was thinking of creating me a double saber how would i go about doing dat do i need to put two together?

  • You can do it almost any way you like. Some people prefer having two sabers that couple together... and that individually work on their own.

  • so ur saying make 2 individual sabers and make a way to link them when i choose rite thanx it helps me out lol u have inspired me lol wit ur cool sabers so i will do it and send u a vid of the finished product

  • I've never built a FX saber before. Know of any good tutorials for beginners?

  • how much do they cost man they look like they cost a lot

  • what is the blade or saber whatever made out of

  • Polycarbonate.

  • Awsome....and impressive. Also funny!

  • Is that an ultra saber?

  • No, the saber hilt was designed and built by myself (using some parts from TCSS), the wiring was done by myself, and the electronic board that drives the sound and light effects is called "Crystal Focus", which is made by Erv Plecter of plecterlabs.

Although I do know Alex, the owner of Ultrasabers, and he's a great guy! Good stuff at his site too... :)

  • 1:20 LOL

  • :D

    heheheh...

  • HI, are the tubes (the blades) made of plastic? I'm assuming they are, lol, thanks

  • Hello... polycarbonate. Yes, a form of plastic, although I guess a good way to put it is:

    plastic is to polycarb as...

    glass is to diamond. :)

  • WOW!!!

  • How do I make 1,?!?! get 1 n how much for?

  • Please see my Q&A video for more 411 on that...

  • and do the ones youve built that are 60 dollars to they have sound

  • Unfortunately, they do not.

  • thats kool but can you buld sound into it

  • O.O why didnt he burned his hands when touching the saber lol

This m8 is fun awsome sabers XD

    and nice mobs XD

  • Nice moves :)

  • you are a JEDI?

    ehheehehheehehe

    veryyy goooddddd

  • Hi:)

How can i get one saber like thoes ones??

    Thanks

  • Your green one is far more evenly lit, i spoke to Corbin Das, his Killer Penny is almost completely even.

  • They are both evenly lit (extremely)... video cameras have certain biases, and what the CAMERA sees... vs. what a real human sees... aren't the same.

The sabers above are green and RED--although the video appears to show the red saber as uneven and mostly "orange". :)

This video is very old too... ;)

  • awesome!

  • that looks so real and is insane you are also excellent at like, spinning it

  • The green is awesome:)

  • amazing laser lightsaber..how much???

  • i want one

  • you did not have to burn your hands just show us lolol

  • lol at the end its like the hand off red dwarf

  • Dude, I have only one thing to ask: is it for sale? I want the amber one so badly, just with the hilt of the green one.

Ah, well... since you made them, I assume you don't want to sell them. Even so, it's alright for me to keep hoping and dreaming, right?

  • The point of quite a few of my vids (see my account)... is to teach you to make your own. What I demonstrate is some fairly inexpensive ways to make great sabers.

Fully custom-machined sabers CAN trump mine by quite a bit... although they're far more expensive.

  • Ah, yeah. I read that just after posting, sorry.......

It's just that the sabers you made shine so brightly and sound so good.......*starts drooling* *snaps out of it*<-- sorry 'bout that ;-p

    Okay, thnx for the response.

  • No problem... the hardest parts about making a CF-style saber would be:

    * Getting the CF board in the first place... they sell out RIDICULOUSLY fast. I'm dead serious--like in 5 minutes, 50 are sold... sometimes faster... (!!)

    * Fitting all components into your "hilt" of choice (in my case, a set of bloody sink tubes!!)

    * Understanding / knowing about soldering and basic electronics

The rest is kid n' play. ;)

  • you rock man

    :D

    u r really kool

  • You're having way too much fun :)

  • does he get paid for this!?

  • Why are you referring to me in the 3rd person? :)

This is quite an old video, btw.

  • i know its old...and i dont know why im refering to you in the 3rd person and do you get paid for this? if you do thats awesome.

  • heh, you always look like you're having so much fun in your videos. I've learned a lot so far by going to the custom saber shop forums and watching your videos, so I sort of feel like I know how to make one now. All I need is a little cash and free time, hehe. Also...man I wish I could actually handle a saber like that, do you have any good advice on where to seek out training?

  • It's not surprising! :) And don't forget, this is the v1.2 video, which is now quite old (despite only being from mid-2007).

    The latest version is CFv4.

  • did you make that?

  • Oh, Jesus, how do I build my own light saber as yours? I mean, where can I find all steps, from hilt to electronic components as well as the plastic blade?

    Help me, pls!

    Tks.

  • I actually have an entire set of videos dedicated to doing just that.

If you're here, it means... you can find them. :)

  • NovaStar!!!!!!! Please help me! I wabt a luxeon saber! Where can I purcase a pre made one? or can you sell me one? preferably with the novastar font!!!!!?????

  • Messaged ya!

  • ausome saber skillz

  • wer do u get that type of lightsaber and the color for the saber

  • I built it myself, so you can't exactly get it anywhere... however, most of the parts are covered in a myriad of my videos--including (to some extent)--this one. :)

  • shit, i have no idea how to build a lightsaber, but i checked the site, and they dont sell allready made ones. do they?

  • True, they do not. If you want a ready-made "Luxeon" style saber, try Alex at "Ultrasabers"!

  • Can you make a green one like that for me?

Or can buy them like that? for how much?

  • Hey Novastar, I like your work bud. Heh, I hope to be a good lightsaber constructor like a Sith Lord should XD

  • Hey man do you have a vid of a double blade? Or do you have a double blade lightsaber?

  • Yup! See "Balance of Power" Episode I. Oh, and "Balance of Power" Episode II.

  • The orange is not so great but the green is amazing looks real

  • It's actually a "red-orange" LED, although it appears as red to the human eye (and more orange to camera optics). Also, it's almost identical in terms of light driving as the green, so--they're equally great. Almost no differences other than the colors.

In fact, "technically" the red-orange is 190 lumens, which is "better" than the 130 lumens of the green. But... whatever--hard to tell with the naked eye... ;)

  • The eye is more sensitive to green than any other colour also the eye can pick out more shades of green than any other colour. That is the reason that green is used in military night vision.

  • Good point, but... in this case it has very little to do with human vision, as the colors are being "interpreted" by a camera lens. The video is then compressed, further biasing and altering how the colors are perceived. Additionally, the Crystal Focus boards allow for "flicker" options, and if I recall, I THINK my "darkside" saber shimmered more than my "good guy" saber. Who knows... :)

Either way... video vs. in person is hard to explain. They both look STELLAR.

  • cool

  • thats an AWSOME video XD

  • Nice video:D

  • Wow, the green especially looked great.

  • Wow, almost 10,000 views on this?!?! Geez, not even BOP II has been seen so much. Dang. I wish more folks would check out BOP II!!! hehehe

  • i like the movies i have all 6 but the

    ''lightsbers'' no

  • nice sabers im thinking of buying a crystal focus saber core v2 for my saber plecter labs rules

  • holy shit ur good at the spining and stuff pwnage thank god thats not a real lightsaber u would be the emperior

  • how do u make it?

  • *drool* lightsabers... Darn it! So many blade/sound options to choose from! Cool demo my friend! MTFBWY!

  • But..it ships to the USA right?

  • god dang your gonna hit your head ]

  • nah... :)

  • CAN You get this in the U.S?

  • this shit is awesome, great job man, wish I had the money to shell out for these

  • yea your a neard! lol but im right there with you!

  • fantastic!

  • Nice sabers! You made those out of regular sink tubes? Wow! Your sabers are better than mine! Mine doesn't even have sound :( I HAVE TO GET MYSELF A PLECTER LABS BOARD!!!!!!

  • xjustinxleex, rockon325... read the comments on the side bar by clicking on (more).

  • how can i get one of these

  • this lightsabers ar not force fx

  • That is correct.

  • how much do they cost? Im making a film with my friends. nice job by the way

  • Glad you enjoyed. Visit plecterlabs to find out costs. Erv is already making CFv2.5 now.

  • wats the website?

  • Those plectorlabs sabers look awesome.

Although I do not have the money, Keep it up Nova!!!

  • Yeah, I know. I just wanted to know what kind of film was in the blades. Whether it was Ultra's fiberoptic folm or corbin's laser core. But you say it's Ultra's film in both of them, huh?

  • What kind of blades are those? Corbin's? Ultrablades?

  • The blades used are technically Ultrablades, but the polytubes themselves aren't what creates the even lighting--it is the diffuser inside. Many types can be used, it all depends on what you best prefer. Some are more effective, some are less effective--depending on the desired result.

  • wow!!!!! that rocks!!!! (way better than my MR obi wan =-p)

  • hehe, it's better than ALL of the MR sabers.

  • Vey Cool greytale. But wouldn't such a heavy hilt kinda put you at a disadvantage?

  • Why would you say that the hilts are heavy? They aren't... well... compared to what? They are fairly well-balanced.

  • whoa those are bright! when r u gonna post the new show? i keep seeing like trailerrs

  • You are a Storm Trooper and I am a Big Nerd?

  • Yes TNT, ah yes... basically I eat a lot of peanut M&Ms and I can crap my pants and no one will notice, hahahahah :)

  • your sabers rule

  • Great video thanks for posting it

  • Very Nice Sabers Greytale Very Cool The Hilts Are Awsome

Their Super Bright i Can Only Hope That My Saber Will Be Half Yours
