I have that exact colour frenchie nobody believes me because their like what kid of dog do u have and i say a blue fawn frenchie he was very expensive the breeders vet was telling her that she is crazy not to keep him because frenchies r never this coulor
Blue is not a rare colour ... it is just that dogs (of pretty much all breeds) that have that colouring tend to have health issues . Also frowned on is liver coloured etc. Piggy looks happy and healthy. if you seriously check the dog out with the vet and don't intend to breed or show the dog then there isn't really a harm in the colour but there is no reason for it to cost more.
Am i the only one but i was told that a blue frenchie is fraud that the color isn't registered with AKC meaning you couldn't show your dog please correct if im wrong i would like to know for myself cuz i really like that color but i dont want to buy a dog for so much if its bootleg lol beautiful dog though!!
There's a lot of wrong information about blue frenchies online... They can be REGISTERED with the AKC (Piggy is). They just can't COMPETE in shows, because the color is too rare and, for that reason, not officially recognized (there aren't enough blue frenchies around to justify it). But this exact color is recognized as a standard for other breeds. Because the color is so rare in frenchies and there is a huge demand for it, a healthy (not in-bred) puppy like Piggy can cost a small fortune.
@MrMarcelo926 the reason the blue french bulldog is not allowed to be shown in the akc rink nor will it be recognized by the AKC is because the genetic make up of the blue coloring of the dog has also been proven to cause many eye problems leading to blindness. The color isn't that rare, that's just how back yard breeders are telling people to charge a crazy $6000 for an off standard dog.
@895rebecca I think you are a little misinformed. It is true that blue frenchies can have eye problems, but only when the dog´s eyes are blue. This eye colorig is more common on the color caller "blue fawn" but can also happen for "blue brindle" (like the dog in the video). The frenchie in the video, however, has dark brown eyes, so won´t be prone to these issues.
@MrMarcelo926 I know many breeders and have been to many dog shows and that color, in french bulldogs, is what it is. Trouble. That's why people don't breed them. Their average life span is ~3 years. Would you like to breed animals knowing they will live 1/3 of their lives? You are being mislead by tugs that call them selves breeders. Info on FB's blue color coat is easily available to all of you, you may have even read it but choose to not trust it.
@Ludak021 The dog in the video is an example of a blue FB that was not inbred and has perfect health. She is 3 yrs old now and never had a single health issue her entire life, and that is a lot to say for a FB... According to your theory she should be dead. Where did your statistics come from, anyway? The "Internet"?
I know several common-colored frenchies such as yours and Piggy is the healthiest frenchie I know. How do you explain that? It´s simple: no inbreeding.
@Ludak021 This same logic used to mean that all chocolate labs were culled. No one wanted them and they were not bred for that color. Stories abounded that chocolates were crazy and prone to all types of problems, most of which were not true. Could this be the same thing? Could it be that the color is simply not desired?
@MrMarcelo926 it's because they are too prone for many genetic diseases like blidnes, kidney failure etc. They should not be bred and I feel sorry for your puppy for it will unfortunately not live long. You should have informed your self better about that specific color and why it is avoided and why it should be avoided. When you do get informed about it, you will see why there is not many blue or "shark" frencies around. You have been misled and honest breeders will tell you that
@Ludak021 Blue FBs are highly sought after and can sell for 5x or 6x the price of a common-colored FB such as the one you have. Unfortunately, this leads to a lot of indreeding as unscrupulous breeders desperately try to produce blue puppies because of their high market value. And, yes, indreeding can lead to health problems, but not the color itself. There is nothing genetically wrong with the color (it is standard in several other breeds). Unfortunately there are many indred blues around.
@Rond1zzle Blue is not a breed standard colour. A lot of people like to market BLUES as rare and thus more expensive. This is not ethically correct. BLUES, whilst I like the look of them, should not be bred becuase of their genetic default. Blue is a gene default, and can lead to further complications like skin irritation, hair loss (alopecia) amongst other things. If you want a blue frenchie cause you like the look of them, and do not intend on breeding or showing it, then this is fine.
@itlaslove Blue is a color that's usually frowned upon in the Frenchie world. So is brindle, and having blue eyes. All of which my Frenchie has, haha(:
