  • This is a wonderfull video. I sat here with tears in my eyes. I too was born at Crawford W. Long hospital (1941) My great uncle delivered me along with most of my cousins.. The ride on the trolly was long, especially on the return trip. You were so tired from walking and shopping. Back then the men had to stand so us ladies could sit. What a wonderful era. I could go on and on but won't I just want to thank you for your work. I plan to watch the other videos you have.

  • My Father took us as a family to see the crackers play at the Field on Ponce De Leon across from Sears. My son Jim was born at Georgia Baptist and our doctor was Crawford W Long the grandson of CWL. I had forgotten the Cocoa Cola sign until I saw it. I also remember taking a bus downtown and shoppin at Rich's and then walking down to Davidson's (Macy's) and then walking back to catch the bus home to West End. Thanks for sharing

  • Nice. Thanks. Grew up near Ponce and Moreland. Would have loved some dates and addresses but it was nice to see!

  • Thanks for the memories! I was also born at Crawford W. Long in 1955. My grandfather drove one of those city buses through 1963. I wish I could spot his face in one of those windshields!!!

  • Oh my....

  • How cool! What an awesome transformation!!

  • Is this from the Atlanta Time Machine site? I love that place.

  • Oh my God. T_T The fondest memory I have of my extended family is going downtown, late at night...a wide eyed little girl in the back of a huge station wagon, with my cousins and my uncle....to watch the Christmas tree lighting! Thank you. <3

  • Good work...

I have been working on a new channel. All high quality pictures, and HD video of everything about Helen Georgia. Check out my channel, and share if you see a value.

  • I am from Crawford W. Long, 1946!!!!

  • Born at Crawford Long in '47. Just had our 45th class reunion. I used many of the same pix here for our memorabilia display, but could have used a lot more like these gems.

I realize how much warmer, much more character Atlanta had back then, when it was fun "going downtown." I miss what we had. Great memories. Thank you so much for this terrific, well done tribute

  • Thanks for the kind words.I'm constantly looking for photos to use in other videos. If you hadn't noticed I've also done two others about Atlanta.Atlanta p2&Atlanta on my Mind... Thanks for watching and also for your input!!

  • KUDOS to IVARD1!! I was born in outskirts, 1950, but Momma was from ATLANTA (born and raised) so we visited often! I cannot believe there are so FEW shots of Rich's and the CHRISTMASES there! (to be found).

At any rate, great job! Hope you do some more!

IF the pix hadn't gotten to me, the MUSIC would have! LOL

  • Great video! Made me cry, being a native and all. So, where was Oxford books?

  • Great Video...Time waits for no one !!

  • Native Atlantan here and just have to say, "Ugh!" @ 0:40--otherwise, I ♥♥♥ it! (LOL)

  • Atlanta, MY Atlanta, have I told you lately how I love you?

  • I was born at Crawford Long in 1944. Seen all the changes. Live in FL now, but family still in Atl. (what's left of it!) Enjoyed this video, but where is The Fox Theatre? Maybe I missed it. Also Leb's restaurant downtown?

  • @islandspeed2001 The Fox is at 5:03 (good aerial view) to 5:09. Thank God it was saved back in the 70's.

  • Atlanta Time Machine.

  • I am a Georgia Native and Atlanta area resident for 41 years. It is the right size of pool for me to play and live in.

  • Boy , this really brought back memories. Living in Florida all of these years, makes me want to return sometimes. But I know the old Atlanta is no more... Born there in 1963 - moved to FL in 1994. Thanks for the memories... QS

  • Very nice. Life long Atlanta Girl. Since 1953

  • Excellent presentation. Thanks for reminding me how nice traffic was in those days.

Atlanta resident since 1961, wife born Crowford W. Long...tks again for memories.GLE

  • How wonderful to see! I cried!

  • this was awesome.

  • What a class act! Well done, Ivard1.

  • I I know exactly how you feel !! I'm just so thankful that there is an outlet such as You Tube which allows us each to view and remark about the city and the best things that we remember ! Thanks for watching and your comments- GO TECH !!

  • Literally brings me to tears to watch and listen -- my wife has never seen me this way. I grew up in Atlanta (50's - 60"s) and road my bicycle (and old rail trolleys) all around town -- lived off Highland Ave. As a 15 y/o I worked as an usher in the Lowe's Grand Theater -- checked out my music records from the Carnegie Library across the street -- graduated from Ga. Tech. I joined the Navy in '68 to see the world and never looked back -- until now. Thanks.

  • Thanks everyone for all of the great memories and stories! With such an overwhelming response I've added part 2!! Please feel free to check it out ! Ivard!

  • Thank you for putting such a wonderful video together. Atlanta is my home town and even though I don't live there now, growing up left many memories and my visits amaze me with all the changes. I was a teenager of the 60's and spent so much time downtown and it has changed so much. But some things will never change. As long as Atlanta has the Varsity, Ga Tech, Coke, Grady, Piedmont Park, Little 5 pts, and so many more, it will always be a wonderful city.

  • Very Nice!! Thanks for the memories.

  • I grew up in Sandy Springs. In the early 60's as the perimeter was being built, I would drive my go kart around it when it was still dirt. It only went from Chamblee- Tucker Road to the River at first.

  • When I was 10 and my sister was 8 we rode the Nancy Hanks from Wadley to Atlanta. My uncle picked us up at the old station at Five Points. He had an office in the Flat Iron building, and lived under the flight path of Hartsfield. There were still some trolley wires and tracks. Twenty years later I worked at Number One Peachtree, the basement of which had a pre-viaduct store front, and was part of underground Atlanta; its a parking garage now. But the skyline at night is the Emerald City.

  • Born and raised here .. remember most all of these places .. still haven't seen a clear picture of the Orange Teako(sp?) that was next to Lowes/Paramount .. it preceded teh Orange Julious! Or, the Magic Shop across the street!

  • Wow. What great pictures! Thanks for sharing this. Altho I'm not native Atlantan, my husband is and he is going to love this presentation.

  • Wife is native born. Myself born 50 miles south. I miss the OLD

Atlanta. We have lived in the big A for 42 years-many changes.

I miss seeing Gordy at the Varsity.

  • As an Atlanta native born in the early 50's, this really warms my heart - and breaks it at the same time. Thank you ivard1.

  • ILo

Looking back is sad. Remembering the many times, that as a family we would go downtown to see the most current movies. It was such a big event, especially seeing Ben Hur at the Roxy. If memory servers me correctly that movie played for over a year at that theater. Thanks for your kind words, Ivard1!

  • GREAT WORK!

  • Thanks for watching!

  • Great memories, I've lived around Atlanta for 30+ years and have seen its growth, thanks for sharing it!

  • This could be any town in America but it's my hometown of Atlanta. I was born in 1945 and have been at almost all these sites both then and recently. Great presentation. Wonder if there is a way to buy DVD or CD of this.

  • I used to ride the bus, pre MARTA I believe. It was $0.10 with my student discount, $0.15 for civilians. My alternate was to hitchhike, and I met a lot of interesting people that way commuting from Brookhaven to GSU!

Kinda miss those days, and the looks of 1970's Atlanta, before it grew so much more oversized than it ever needed to be. Growth, simply for its own sake, leaves you flabby....

    /..

  • I grew up in Atlanta. I am 45.. miss the old times and ways

  • ccspongo... the first artist is Roy Clark (the famous guitarist from Hee Haw fame).

  • Nice production! I was born here in 1941 and remember many of the scenes. We actually had better mass transit in the 1930s and 40's with street cars (on rails). You could catch a ride from 5 Points to the Bell Bomber plant (Lockheed) in Marietta during WWII, or to Stone Mountain in the other direction.

  • When I was two or three they were in the beginning stages of erecting the Fulton National Bank Bldg. With my father we would stand close by and hear the constant sound of the workers driving the beams into the ground. Hearing that loud noise I would refer to that Bldg. as the Boom-Boom Bldg! Thanks for your comment !

  • If you were good, when you grew up you got to move to Atlanta. I did, from Virginia, before the city had it's first million people. Fell in love and got married. My first job was at a lawyer's office in the Fulton National Bank Bldg. downtown. I knew I had made it. Atlanta has never lost it's charm through the years. Thanks for the memories.

  • living here is like moving somewhere else every couple of years without having to pack

  • I love this......I live in alabama and also part of florida.......it has all been over commercialized.........I miss the good old days

  • Atlanta is the city where I was born, I lived most of my life there, and I still have family and friends there. I'm in Charleston SC now... this brought back sweet memories.

  • The song is "Yesterday When I Was Young" and the artist is Roy Clark of Hee Haw & C&W fame.

Makes me sad to see all the old pics of Atlanta. Looks like this video is a small compilation of the photos on Atlanta Time Machine site.

  • Who is the first artist and name of the song on this video. I know the second one is by Alan Jackson

  • Amazing the changes in this beautiful city, I loved this video! I've lived here 40 years now, and I've seen so much change myself, but your older pictures really bring the transformations home. Thanks for such a lovely retrospective on this gem of the South.
