  • Don't see what's so bad about the dress. :P It fits the time period perfectly. I mean, at least she isn't butt naked on stage like other artists are these days.

  • OMG - dresses dont get worse than that!

  • I love Olivia, but what an absolute stinker of a song! And as for the dress and over-animated childrens' TV faces... thank God she moved gto USA and got a part in Grease! LOL Laughed and laughed and laughed at this. I'm sure Livvie would too ;)

  • I love olivia...but why the hell is she wearing my grandma's couch cover?

  • A szerelmesek dal):)

  • Poor Olivia looks lobotomized here.

  • It wasnt meant to be, This was ABBAs time to come to the publics attention and become mega stars, Olivias own big time was just a few months away when she moved to America and had hits, and Grease etc.

  • No she couldn't have done Opera without drastically changing her technique @plasvi, but she did her best with this song, made the dress work for her and got a 4th against tough competition. Check out Gigliola Cinquetti singing 'Si' the real star of this contest. I love Abba , but their greatness came after the contest for me.

  • OLIVIA DIDNT PICK THE OUTFIT...THE OUTFIT AND SONG WERE VOTED FOR BY THE PUBLIC....OLIVIA HOPED "ANGEL EYES" WOULD HAVE BEEN VOTED FOR AS SHE DIDNT CARE FOR THIS SONG

  • Hate the dress.

  • I thought she was supposed to sing The Who's Long Live Rock.

  • Sounds like the UK wanted to repeat the 'Puppet on a string' beat for several years!

  • So this was a competition?

  • ABBA won this. Olivia and the rest were like stone-age bushmans.

  • A very good singer

  • Oh no, I did realise this song was so religious, mm such a shame.

  • Reportedly, Olivia didn't like the song, or the dress. The UK people voted on both. She thought the song "Angel Eyes' or 'Have Love, Will Travel' had a better chance.

  • @Zephyr131313 We should have won with this, I do wish Eurovision was as good as this now. xxxx

  • @Zephyr131313, she picked it out herself.. no voting then :)

  • Lord knows I love her to death but dang that dress......

  • even though she was born in england and brought up in australia she always be a aussie

  • Maybe because this song was just a little to religious or something for a lot of europeans? Not sure, just throwing that out.

  • ABBA - Waterloo... how different from this :D

  • should have won eurovison in 1974, better song than waterloo.

  • THE best female singer, without a doubt! :)

  • @Plasvi She could probably sing almost anything I'm not

    sure about opera.

  • haha! how cute is she? such a beautiful voice! I love her.

  • Was it necessary five singers as a chorus? Was it a hippie song? Why did 1974ESC take place in Brighton if Monaco won the last edition?

  • I lived in London when this Eurovision song contest was on. If I remember, I think ABBA won it with Waterloo. This is when I fell in love with ONJ.

  • What a great performance; she's bang in tune - and spot on with phrasing etc.

  • Happy Birthday,Olivia.

  • I love this song. I'm not sure whose Long Live Love song is better, hers or Sandie Shaw's.

  • Ironic that this came in the same year ABBA stole the festival with "Waterloo". Could it be possible that's how Olivia got the idea of bringing them on her TV special a few years later?

  • this is it when i become a fan,but grease made me go more in love wit her

  • wow .. this takes me back .. my grand parents loved her, my Mom loved here and funnily enough so do I ..

  • 1974 the best eurovisin ever

  • Another great talent from Australia :)

  • From the UK, grew up in Australia...;-)

  • @jereg2 from the uk

  • I'm not a huge fan of this song and don't understand why they all decided on this song over the other ones. Someday and Angel Eyes are better. Or if upbeat is needed to comepete against Abba's "Waterloo," how 'bout "Have Love Will travel?" She looks pretty tho so... and her voice is beatiful as always. :)

  • Wot a year to pick to represent the UK in Eurovision!

  • love u livvi...b;ess u always xxxthnx for this memory ,,,babs

  • I´m still in love with her. I can´t help it. She´s the most beautiful girl I´ve ever seen.

  • If Olivia can sing Long Live Love, she oughta be able to pull off The Who's Long Live Rock.

  • it's a no wonder why she didn't win....

  • Charming lady

  • she look like my mom

  • Grande Olivia, gia' all'inizio della carriera era bravissima e con il tempo e' diventata la migliore cantante nel mondo.

  • ciao

  • As a previous contibutor stated, we the great British public basically gave Olivia a no-win situation in voting for this tripe. Me, I voted for a song called "Hands across the Sea". It wasn't perfect but could have done a lot better than this, but still wouldn't have touched ABBA.

And to think, 4 years later Olivia was in a small film production called Grease, which I believe had some success!!

  • Grease - emm what film what was that - only joshing - she maybe never won this but my cousin's seventeen year old is watching and enjoying her in grease - my nine year old is doing the same - they will pass this onto thier kids - long live Olivia.

  • The Brits never did like us convicts - poor Livvy - she was set up to fail with that song.

  • longlonglivelove she is a dish bird

  • liavav, she represented united kingdom..

  • what country did she represent???

  • she represented UK

  • thanks

  • Nice song, great singer!

  • She is a piece of heaven!

  • Great song. awesome performance.

But Abba indeed topped her that year. not to take away anything from Olivia, as she was did extreemly well herself.

  • She is great. I'm a fan of her way back in my high school days in 70's and up to now. I still remember her songs like "Please Mr. Please", "Have you never been mellow", "Dont stop believin", and off course "I honestly Love You".

  • i like this song ^_^

  • i loved olivia is a great artist

  • Thought I recognized her backing singers here - yes, they are the Ladybirds, from Benny Hill Show. Love Olivia!

  • What a MILF! So hot even to this day

  • Played this on vinyl as a 10 yr old kid to appease my my mum. Dad had passed away already when I was 5. Long live the love my mum and dad had!

  • ♥♥

  • Just look at that 1974 dress she's wearing! They say fashions come around again but I'm not so sure in this case! Still, a good bit of pop/euro history featuring a lovely lass.

  • I wish I could practice makeing babies with Olivia Newton John. =0)

  • yeah me to !

  • Feeble stuff really; no wonder she cried. Was this song chosen for her by Cliff Richard as a masturbatory aid! She's slipped off the radar in recent years (like most girl singers who rely too much on their looks). Still she had a good run, can't see an ONJ revival though.

  • Oliva cried when she found out that " great British public " picked this banal song for her sing...........

  • Sorry I know this, but ABBA won in 1974 with Watewrloo. The show itself was hosted in Brighton. UK had not won in 1973, but were bailing out Luxembourg cos they were having problems paying for the cost of it. Something like that!

  • You are correct that ABBA won that year. Olivia came in 4th place, but if she was given a better song then maybe she could have placed higher.

  • absolutely beautiful song

  • This song is totally irritating.

  • As others have noted, Olivia did not get to pick the song, which was selected by UK viewers, I believe.

  • I can't believe that this is the same Olivia Newton John that we see today. Does anybody know what happened to her face?

  • I think it's called getting old. Though I believe she had a cancer scare a few years back which probably took its toll. Combine that with the inevitable plastic surgery which comes with living in California and I think that might go some way to explaining her now less than desirable bearing.

  • I think it's a brilliant song! And the dress is pure early/mid 70's. For me it's another triumphant Olivia moment. Who was it won? Did anything ever come of them?

  • oh... who won, you mean? well... no nothing much came off them... just a small, rather unknown song called Waterloo performed by some Swedish weirdoes named Abba.. can't remember them or their song at all....faded into oblivion very quickly I guess...

  • hahahahaahahaha......

  • Yes it's an horrible song, she never like it either, but most horrible is the dress.

  • She can sing, she is beautiful, but this is a horrible song!

  • As horrible as this song was....I'll take a THOUSAND songs like THIS over any of the so-called "songs" that have infested the Eurovision over the past few years. Nowadays it's more a porno contest than a song contest.....

  • I heard somewhere that this song is a hymn to the work of the Salvation Army.

  • I think she had also done a German version of this song right?

  • yes, you're right - Olivia did do a German version of the song. It's entitled: "Long Live Love - Lebe die Liebe".

    huX frm CPH

    -Z-

  • can you upload it on Youtube ?

  • She came fourth i think...everyone thought that she did really badly at the time...and she hated the song.

  • Marvellous!!!

  • I agree, it is absolutely superb! Did you like this better than ABBA?

  • she is gorgous xxx
