  • @Eddabed yes

  • album headhunters"

  • A Soulful song play without Soul. Herbie needs to keep better company.

  • i just had an eargasm

  • One word: KILLIN'

  • this line up is unreal.

  • The Keytar makes this so much more awesome...

  • nam myoho renge kyo

  • is that chris potter

  • WHAT A CONVERSATION!!!!!!

  • AAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!! 6:18 !!!!!!

  • That sax player is KILLIN' it!

  • clash of the titans

  • cooooool

  • so groovy i love it

  • illest line of potter at 6:00 !!

  • @85capricelandau nothing remotely B team about potter and holland.

  • Gawd that is the worst HH performance I have ever seen

  • wankers !

  • Herbie looks a lil' upset to be playing with the B Team...o_O

  • @85capricelandau

  • This song requires that the musicians have Soul. Something is obviously missing.

  • @fnkdrmmr ummmmm... please correct me if Im wrong... but are you implying that herbie hancock doesnt have soul...? cuz that would be RIDICULOUS.

  • @dantheguitarman88 NO! Just those hired musicians are lacking SOUL. LIsten to them wrecking "Watermelon Man". They sound like a horrible garage band.

  • @dantheguitarman88 My point exactly. As a drummer, I 'm aware of Coliuata's reputation - and was disappointed when I heard these guys playing a tune I've played since elementary school in the 70s. When you play Soulful music, and the person listening doesn't feel it, then something is missing. And in this case, the Soul is missing. Check out the Watermelon clip w/Terri Carrington on drums w/Roy Hargrove, you can feel their Soul(s).

  • @dantheguitarman88 just so you know ive done an enormous amount of research on Vinnie he doesnt think he's the coolest shit on earth believe me. He is up for any gig and is always happy because he is always playing.

  • the beat in the begging is just ill

  • Amazingly killer stuff from my favourite musician!

  • Vinny is just Nasty on the kit. Dude is just to funky, That groove is so tight

  • It was an interesting dialog between sax, but with guitar it was like avangarde. :D

  • haha its like Herbie is picking a fight with his own band mates. killin stuff

  • FUCKING ECSTASY

  • 2nd time I see Dave Holland on ELECTRIC bass guitar!

  • this is the worst ive heard colaiuta play. Definately not his gig.

  • @monkeygames18 Really?

  • @davidhilton yea man, he's my all time number 1 for every gig but here its just like every phrase is some mad power lick! haha

  • yea, bass drum kills!

  • THe drummer is good, BUT he's trying to turn into a punck rock song, which it's not.

    Great Bass player!!

  • really?? i like vinnie better than harvy mason, who if im correct is the man who originally played drums on this track.. i mean yes, ol Herbs has played with some incredible drummers (my fav being Jack Dejonette) but that doesn't mean vinnie cant hang.. but you are intitiled to your opinion soooooo...

  • Yeah I get that. I don't know I've worked for about 9 years to get away from letting rock-style drumming bleed in to other styles like funk and jazz, and I feel as if Vinnie doesn't discern like that.

  • Korg oasys, damn. Old herbie has expensive taste

  • the best needs the best

  • @alex9050

Not as much as the Fairlight he used to play. But whose paying anyway?

  • There's better instruments for what he uses it for to be honest.

  • i was there!!!! superb, and his handy-keyboard!

  • JESUSSS!'

    this one is sick!

  • bass much?

  • I wish I was there

  • Wow, Mr. Hancock looks amazingly young for 69, even if he might color his hair!

  • fantastic

  • Looks like, Herbie can found a language with everyone. :)

  • I like it, but is this not birdland piper !!

  • I like the kcik, at least ya can hear it!

  • I think it's the recording quality that makes the drums seem bad.

  • yeah a lot of cameras pick up drums badly , so they can sound way to over powering.

    happens to me a lot

  • Where was this performed?

  • I think at the North Sea Jazz Festival in Rotterdam. Thats in the Netherlands

  • dave holland totally messed up on the first chorus

  • @jazzbass3826 I can't hear the beginning part of the theme, maybe Holland didn't hear it too.

  • @r3ck0rd yeah thats probably true

  • that drummer is playing too much :(

  • get over it.

  • how too much? too much fills or what?

  • i still cant get over the fact that holland played with them. he seemed so out of place.

  • aw come on. you know holland can get funky. check out some miles shit from 1970. its wild but its funky.

  • AAAIIITTTT, nice one!

    and the drummer :| goshh

  • I wanna see if this band works with Dennis Chambers.... nothing against Vinnie which is one of my favorites or my favorite

  • the drummer is vinnie colaiuta

  • anybody know the drummer's name in this video?

  • vinnie colaiuta

  • Herbie is super badass! He is always the best musician on the stage! Bar none!

  • du du da da...daradurudada.yeah

  • This is why people love herbie! Definitely brought that funky sync into the the jazz picture. I saw this group together, and was not impressed at all with the guitarist

  • that guitarist is one of the best man! you should really listen what the guy does with his space, how he reacts on herbie's ideas, how he is one the background without taking the space of others.

I saw them in Rotterdam btw, I was next to the camera guy, what a night. Saw Abdullah Ibrahim after this one, perfect end of the day.

  • Herbie, why indeed? I can barely watch.

  • very excellent!!!!

  • I was there & saw the concert and even put the "solo Herbie Hancock vs Chris Potter" on YouTube too, but I never noticed that Herbie and Chris where checking there watches & timing the lenghth of there solo, probibly they had been argumenting about it.

  • super cool!!! excellent video!!!
