For some unknown reason, I completely forgot about this awesome song! This is a great song from New Order! Wow! How this song takes me back over 20 years ago! This track is one of my favorite by NO. Love this band!
Oh wow this takes me back! This whole album puts a serious lump in my throat. I remember just sitting in my room, with the lights out, headphones on, immersed in it, an unexplainable feeling of melancholy, and hope too. Wondering what my future held. That was 20 years ago. Crazy!
@sleezymany Gotta agree pal. I bought this the week it came out, in 1983. I have bought many albums since, some duds, some classics (Disintegration, anyone?) but PC+L and Never Mind The Bollocks are albums which I simply cannot imagine living without. I sometimes feel the same about great literature (Steinbeck, Marquez etc), but the crucial difference is that you can revisit a truly great album anytime, takes only one hour of yer time to re-experience that first-time feeling. No contest, sadly.
i suspect it's an ian curtis reference. conversations i've heard genesis p orridge talk about said that the music was destroying ian, that nothing was ever understood. i see this as last words to his wife before they were supposed to do the us tour.. these last few days leave me alone. i'm probably completely wrong, but it doesn't really matter. life is subjective, it's reflection, art, ought to be. power corruption and lies. factory records? tony? seems at the least ironic.
one of my closest friends adores new order and because of him i have come to love this song. we have that joy division vs. new order thing going on.....it's good for both of us.....keeps us sharp! so i dedicate this one to him, love ya matt!
natz and I did a cover of this song back in 90 @ MTI acquaintance party. man, we nailed it with just natz as vocals (brit accent) and guitar and I as the drummer. brings back memories...
strid61, how right you are. Will we be listening to this haunting song when we're in one of them old people's homes at age 85? No fucking doubt about it, mate! But I'll probably need a hearing aid by then from listening to my songs my way, so loud!
How fucking good is this song, my god! Breathtaking, haunting, painful to listen to,...takes me back to a time long gone when I was so young and full of it real good and dandy, almost forgotten days, but not this song. All those pals and gals are gone now, so long days, but the song remains... today, tomorow and forever.
@BanditosYankees - well put. I met a woman this weekend that had old new order and Catherine Wheel on her ipod and we dove head first together into our worlds when this song was new. It was a sweet and melancholy trip through our collective memories. Glad you share it
@davebinder7 - Good of you to share your thoughts. I'm sure the woman you met made the experience of the listen, the rewind, that much more vivid. Women have a marvelous way of doing that. Sweet and melancholy, to be sure. These songs are the album of our collective salad days, for the better.
glad to hear your discovering New Order...one of my all time favourite bands...if youve any NO related queries dont hesitate to ask , i know far too much about them...:)
wow i wish i could play on guitar.... i guess i should pull up some tabs. i wish justin beiber would LEAVE we need more songs like this!!!!11111!!!!!!11!!!!!
