i run a portable CD player to the AUX in which contain my drum/bass tracks when i play at open mics. i control the mix between drums, bass and guitar with the v-amp and send that in stereo to the soundman's board telling him to set the EQ flat, no reverb and no effects. Then all he has to do is mix that to my vocal.
i've got a v-amp and it's good but i don't like behringer's factory presets, they're all over the place. No pattern and they didn't set all the volumes equally
You mentioned that problem about the noise, how well would a noise supressor get rid of that and do you have any suggestions on what noise supressors to get?
@2009notaspy Here is the deal with the noise. It only is noisy on some settings. In a live setting, It may not be that big of a deal. I mostly notice it if I use it for practice. The only noise suppressor I have ever used was the Boss NS-2, which I only used for a short period of time. They cost $99 new, the same cost as a V-amp, so to me, that is not a economical solution. I'd rather sell the v-amp and buy a used Boss ME-50 or GT-8 for a little more money. Hope that helps.
@JustinAtivo10 I think you just hold down on one of the A,B,C, D, or E buttons for 2 or 3 seconds. I don't remember 100% and rarely us the unit. I bet you could Google it and find an answer too.
I have both the V2 & V3 and I've found that the units need a strong volume signal for the tuner to work at its best -- I just turn the guitar's volume to 10. You can control the volume out with the Master Volume. (Then it works just as well as my Hardwire HT-2 pedal tuner.) So, when the tuner is on you can silence it or turn the volume up to suit your tastes, The tuner is like an additional patch -- it'd be the 126th I guess. Anyway, Thanks for the review and Praise God. John 15:5-10.
@john4short Yes, You can use it for bass. They make a bass V-amp that has some sounds that apply more to bass, but you can use the V-amp 2 for bass too. Don't get too held up on if an effect says bass or not. Usually they are the same as the guitar effects, but have a lower frequency range, but if you can get a sound you like out of it, then use it. It goes the other way too, ie, the original Fender Bassman amps were designed for Bass, but more guitar players use them.
Can someone tell me how to plug this one into computer for recording? I've heard about this little device called UCA-222, but someone told me that it works only for V-Amp 3, and V-Amp 2 looses all of the sound quality when plugged in via UCA... Also, does this program that comes with v-amp 3 (ztx-something, sorry for my bad memory) works with v-amp 2?
@outstarwalker777 I'm not familiar with the UCA-222 so I don't know. You will need to use the Midi IN/OUT to hook up to your computer. Not sure about the program either, I really don't use this unit with my computer. If anyone else here knows the answers, please comment. Sorry I could not be more help. Thanks for posting.
I have this unit. I use it to practice with headphones and to easily maniuplate/edit sounds. The sounds available are, quite possilby, the easiest to edit of any device of this type. Granted, you're not going to sound exactly like any specific amp, but you can get the gist of how to setup the real thing with one of these. They are inexpensive, and the sounds available make this well worth the small investment.
@kennisrussell I live in Brazil so the price for you is much lower, 20 dollars are around 30 brazilian currency, but, I would need to pay around 120 dollars
It's a nice little prosessor, still it's my impression that it does not sound like the amps it's supose to emulate at all. I also miss the colorations of speakers.
@blue9z I agree. It doesn't sound like them, but can still get some decent sounds out of them. I don't know to many beginner guitar players that knows what an AC-30 or a Vintage Fender amp is supposed to sound like. Thanks for the comment, that's a good point for people to take note of.
@elektrey That makes sense. However, I used this once on a pedal board and you are right it saves space on a power strip, but then I literally had over ten feet of cord I had to find space for. I personally would have happily gave up space on the power strip for a cleaner look.
Most of the noise issues vanish if you use the PC software editor; you can adjust the noise gate for your particular guitar/pickups easily. <$10 USB-Midi cable and you're set.
I'm more partial to the rackmount version of this as my work space has very limited horizontal space/ lots of room for rack units in overhead shelves.
It's a flavor unit - the AC30 sounds nothing like one but tweaked it's one of my favorite backing flavor track sounds and I'll keep it just for that.
@gotmoneyyweezy I know what you mean. Here is the deal with the V-Amp. It is designed to work like a tube amp that has volume and gain. Typically on a tube amp the gain cranks the preamp tubes which break up (or distort) when cranked. The Volume controls the power tubes which usually take more to break up. So in order to have less distortion... decrease the gain and increase the volume. To have more distortion, increase the gain and decrease the volume. Hope that helps.
@GrizCC Why do you think that Behringer is an awful brand? I have found them to produce great products for the money. Not just with guitar stuf, but pro audio stuff too. There is definitely better products on the market, but they usually cost twice as much. Just curious how you came to that conclusion.
I currently own one of these do you think that I would be better off with a metal pedal or trying to find metal settings on this -and i would not pay over 40 for a pedal so its this or 40 or under pedal
@GuitarHockeyLife I'm not sure if anyone is selling the V-Amp 2 anymore new, unless they just have some old stock they are just getting ride of. They are selling the V-Amp 3 new though. Just do a google search and you should be able to a store to buy it from. Thanks for posting.
@joriszsz95 I don't have a Vamp 3, so I can't do a review of it. I'm sure it is very similar to the 2, but I'm not sure what changes they made. I know that it have a USB port and comes with recording software (not sure what software). So I think may have added recording features to it. I hope that helps. If I run across one, I'll make sure to do a review.
@kennisrussell Yes that helps. I have an other question, because i am a beginner/intermediate electric guitar player and i think its cool to have a multi effect device but i don't know which one and i don't have that much money to spent, so what do you recommend? Or is this v-amp device one of the cheapest multi effect device?
@joriszsz95 V-Amp is good for the money. You can find them on ebay around $50 to $60 bucks. I like the vamp for beginners looking to figure out what effects they may eventually want to invest in. Great practice tool too. You can always resell it for what you bought it for used too. One of the down sides is you can only choose one effect at a time. Can't layer 3 or 4 effects. Consider the BOSS GT 3, 6, 8 or 10. GT-3=$130, GT-6=$150. BOSS makes the best mulit-effects IMHO. Hope that helps.
@kennisrussell The V-Amp 3 doesn't actually come with a USB port. It comes with a separate USB audio device and the cable to connect the V-Amp 3 to the audio device, but the V-Amp 3 still has all the same outputs as the V-Amp 2. The V-Amp 3 is essentially a V-Amp 2 in every way, except it comes with a few new models which replace a few of the old models, and Behringer claims the other models have been improved. Some people say it sounds exactly the same as the V-Amp 2.
@CernobylAftermath You can turn off the amp on the V-amp and just use the effects. You can loop it through your amp just like any effect pedal. I hope that answered your question.
Yes, the FCB1010 is very good and you can use it with any Unit you like. You can also use it for the GR-55 as a midi-controller. Same as the Controlling unit from Roland.
Very nice Review. Thank you Kennis. I've the Unit, too. But the sounds are better from Line6 and Roland/Boss. But for beginner it is very good. I have the FCB1010 Footswitch, too.
@kreschdruppreschd I agree 100% In my opinion, Boss/Roland consistantly make the best products. Line 6 is good to and the V-Amp is pretty much just a copy of the Line 6 POD. But Behringer is much cheaper. That's why I think it's a great unit for the biginner. I have never used the FCB1010. Is it worth it? Can you use it with products other than Behringer products?
