As well as the HUGE thrust, the exhaust gas is toxic. We aren't talking kerosene and liquid oxygen for the fuel on this rocket. It's a real witches brew of lethal chemicals. Nitric acid and UDMH neither of which you want to be anywhere near.
I looked it up. It's UDMH and N2O4 ( not nitric acid. The brown cloud is likely unburnt N2O4 since dinitrogentetrroxide has a brown color. It's nice and toxic also.
The soviets did also use red fuming nitiric acid in another missle to the nedelin explosion, which killed many of the ground crew. Red fuming Nitric Acid is very nasty stuff.
@sedna69a Nitric acid can be used too. Haz-chem teams have to be wear fully enclosing safety suits when the spent stages are recovered from where they impact downrange due to residual fuel in the tanks. UDMH is toxic and carcinogenic. No ignition system is used, the fuels combust on contact in the engines which simplifies their design. If LOX/LH2 were to be used then the exhaust is simply steam. Much better all round.

The glass is probably from the nearby sand when it was crystalized by the ignition flames
