I understand that execution is something we don't want to happen - but in the United States, execution is used for those who have committed extremely major crimes such as murder. I am not sure of the other countries, but in America that is a form of punishment and is very rarely executed. Those who have created horror have to feel the horror they have caused on intention. Those are my opinions about the death penalty ONLY in the United States.

Also, these conscripted jurors will be forfeited basic legal rights of labor. The "lay judge law" (saiban-in-seido) has been enforced from May 21. District courts will randomly conscript Japanese into jurors and make them sentence judgment which including "Death Penalty" at atrocious criminal suit. This judgment will be made by jurors majority vote, not by unanimous vote. So minority opinions which assert innocent will be ignored and it will cause false charges.

That's a myth. There's lots of research that suggests the death penalty is not a deterrent. The problem with the death penalty is that in some countries it is handed down arbitrarily. In some countries in the world being gay is a capital crime. How can you support that kind of punishment for "crimes" such as homosexuality?

I don't support the death penalty as a punishment for "crimes of homosexuality." I support it for the Ted Bundys, the Ed Geins, and the men and women of the world who molest and/or murder children. The death penalty may not prevent crimes, but you can't deny that it cuts down on recidivism rates.

I used to subscribe to that reasoning as well. My issue with state-sanctioned "murder" is that you trust the State to use that punishment fittingly. But while we can assume places like the USA wil not hand the penalty down arbitrarily, it is not the same for all countries. China & the Middle East lead statistics in capital punishment; capital crimes include apostasy, petty theft, & "endangering national security". In Iran minors can -- and have -- been put on death row. I can't support that.

Yeah, and not only that, but then WE get to support these people for the rest of their lives; paying their day-to-day expenses including: medical care, dental care, vision, and education. Some get degrees in prison, write books, and become wealthy. WTH?

As it is, we pay more for the criminal justice system than we pour into the school system for our children. That is a sad equation.
