Yes, Richter's interpretations sound a bit mechanical to the uneducated year. He believed in not straying far from the written score. That's the way the man chose to do things, and he should be respected for it.
I believe he was pretty annoyed that his Mondschein/Moonlight garnered more fame than his Appasionata and the Hammerklavier. Which tells me a bit that he might have loved the Appasionata.
he had enough reason to love his appassionata cos it's simly genious. This one is surely great but as the name already tells "Appassionata", the more passion and emotion there is in a piece the better it is i think
You know, (and thanks for the Furtwangler) this reminds me horrible lot of Mozart's sonatas. The beginning reminds me a lot of youth, as his sonatas do.
This song really never gets old
This is one of the only pieces I still play from last year

This is the sonata that Beethoven dedicated to Haydn, who was for a time his teacher.

No, his earliest were dedicated to Haydn...this one is dedicated to the Countess Browne.

@brucelitow Are you sure? I know all of the Op. 2 sonatas are, but I can't find a reference on the net to this one.

I'm playing this piece on the piano. It's fast and very fun to play. A very good piece.

Much better than Pogorelich's, in my humble opinion.

@TomBarristerX His interpretations also sound quite mechanical to many an educated ear.

Not his 100% definite favorite, but it has been known that he had a special attachment to this one.

Beethoven preferred his lighthearted sonatas over his more serious (and usually more famous) ones. Still very much Beethoven.

@RabidCh Where did you see that?
