Does anyone else realize that Zula was the crazy staff wielding female in "Conan The Destroyer"? Why the need to change the gender? Just thought I'd point that out.
@scifiwarrior It's a good point friend. I like both versions of Zula myself. The Grace Jones version from Destroyer is the one I first saw. It would be interesting to know the reason why the makers of the cartoon felt like changing the gender of the character.
@seanakizuki I wouldn't disagree with that. It seemed like the world of Conan was or is always open to expand on with other places, things and characters.
As a kid I never realized this whole story was a Reptilian conspiracy combined with the Illuminati. Awesome. Throw the Masons and the Knights Templar in there and you've got quite the conspiracy soup.
And as the elders of our time choose to remain blind, let us rejoice and sing and dance and ring in the new Hail Atlantis WAY DOWN BELOW THE OCEAN WHERE I WANNA BE, SHE MAY BE. WAY DOWN BELOW THE OCEAN WHERE I WANNA BE, SHE MAY BE (if you seen Goodfellas then you know this song)

Anunnaki snake me disguised as humans, all seeing eye on the pyramid, the demon snake god Set ruling the world, Atlantis, Conan being Sumerian. makes for a very well thought out story, I'm impressed and I hate myself for never really watching this show growing up.
@tweave420 Yes, I did. But remember that this is a cartoon for KIDS, and if you treat it like this, it's thousands times better than contemporary cartoons.
I have, given the dark tone and other elements in Robert Howard's original stories, there's no way you could make a kids show about Conan without changing elements of the stories. The problem is that the collections of Kull and Conan Stories I have has the stories in the order they were published, not chronologically, and saddly Howard killed himself before he had a chance to do an orgin story for Conan or create a cannical timeline for Conan
Robert E. Howard copied a lot of gods from several cultures to create the pantheons of the Hyborian Age of Conan, not only Set. In Cimmeria, for instance, there is a lot of Celtic deities you might recognize, such as Mannanan.
For his Hyborian Age he copied a lot of stuff: Hyboria is supposed to be Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia in a forgotten era. He also used historic peoples such as the Picts in his stories, and his Hyborian Age Essay pretty much says Scotland, Ireland, and others owe their cultures to the Hyborian Age.
holy shit what wizard says is fucking unreal and very possible according to what have been saying. The Illuminati elite are all shape shifting reptile minions that are trying to free their master.
So...cartoon guys got a lot more handsome? Now they are all like rock stars with long lashes and nice slender bodies. Back in the day they were like ugly dudes from All Star Wrestling! That is so funny. I had no idea.
3: I assume you'd like people to respect your opinion without snide replies with poorly hidden insults underneath so please do the same for others.
4: Macho guys have nothing to do with heteronormativity from my perspective, nor do girly men have anything to do with the opposite so what you said is moot in my case.
@MaxusFett 1. You might not be American, but you are surely following American ideals of masculinity and femininity, and they along with several other cultural mores shape your perspective.
2. Don't get me started on what's wrong with the norm or norms; in a pithy sentence, in every time and across every culture, humans have considered what that particular group was doing as the right thing to do. Allow me to give you a small example that pertains to issues of gender conformity... (cont)
@CosmoShidan Yes, and I know he furthered Socrates's view that women make potential good guardians or philosopher-rulers of the state, and this is all based on his assertion/thesis that a person should be judged by her/his soul, not external appearance. And this has been tackled in book 5.
@ibtehajshahid Thank you for the reply. Btw, I just over-reacted a little. lol :) I find it fascinating how modern ideas come from ancient times; for example, Anexamander came up with one of the earliest known theories on evolution or Democritus wrote that the world is round.
@CosmoShidan No problem. :) And yes, of course I understand what you are saying. But for me, rather than being fascinating, it's very acceptable and understanding as to where those ideas come from because the concept of "primitive" and "modern" itself is pretty archaic! Every nation in every time has considered its own culture and trends the "right" thing to do, thereby discarding and discrediting others. We let so many segregations divide us, and we forget that we are all humans in the end.
@ibtehajshahid Very true. Man is a social animal after all! lol. It's almost seems such Archaic ideas were prepared for this age and continue to inspire generations. Speaking of ancient times, I happened to notice that this cartoon looks to be inspired by Egyptian times.
@CosmoShidan Yes, perhaps it has been. But since I don't know anything about Conan's origins, I cannot speak any further. As far as humans go, they are just one big mass, almost all seeking the same thing, but segregated by each other into these petty fractions!
@MaxusFett ...(cont.) 2. Early in the 20th century, women wore only and only skirts. However, after WW2 and second wave feminism, slacks started becoming the norm for them because they are symbols of power due to their attachment to men, and now in North America (which is the birth place of modern western feminism) jeans are considered "sexy" and "hot" where they were items of cross dressing on women in the past. What is right? I am doing my undergraduate course is Women's and Gender Studies....
@MaxusFett ....and I've read dozens of books and articles on this, and since the space here is too tight and constricting for academic discussions, let me know if you ever decide to know what's wrong with the norm. I'll give you a list to read from.
3. Who's hiding anything? What I said was my intention, and I guess you prefer outright blasts of swearing instead of "hidden insults."
4. I think you need to re-google the meaning of heteronormativity and gender roles. Hope that helps.
Slavery used to be based on debt crime or conquest. race had little to do with it until later in history. racism was invented to justify slavery in a world that no longer accepted it as commonplace.

As a huge fan of both the original Robert E. Howard stories and the comic series I must say this cartoon ruins everything I love about Conan and the world of Hyboria.... but I guess it's pretty cool for kids... However I'd suggest the comic series by darkhorse anyday over this shit...
You doo need to understand that this is a Kid adapted Conan version. I am too a bit disapointed, but this is the unfortunate procedure every adaptation for kids goes through when it airs. I too miss the blood, fighting, women, and barbarian crude speech. But what are you gonna doo about it? :(
No, the cartoon serie "Conan the Adventurer" was an other serie that mix reality-"science fiction". All the bible and many many others ancient texts talks aboute snake-men, snake-race, etc etc etc.
this cartoon kicked ass. the same people that brought us gi joe & transformers did this one too. but i wouldn't say all cartoons suck now. catoons in the mid '90s sucked.
I like how they stuck as close to the source material as they could while keeping it a kids show. A classic example of a cartoon that has actual work put behind it.
This wasnt'so bad! I've been a Conan/Howard fan for 10 years now and i'v heard a lot of shit about this cartoon. It's not That great but bether then i thoght. Cool to see a litle of conan on the screen.
haha. ur right it does leave you hanging. Well I'll try an put the second one up soon. Unfortunately I don't have the bandwidth to put them all up, and youtube would probably take them down if I did.

All sounds a bit like scientology to me.

did david icke steal his conspiracy theories from a 90's cartoon???

No, the cartoon serie "Conan the Adventurer" was an other serie that mix reality-"science fiction". All the bible and many many others ancient texts talks aboute snake-men, snake-race, etc etc etc.

I watched these cartoons when I was 15 yrs, I'm 26 now, and still love it!! Not very many cartoons watched as kids can still hold up now.

this cartoon kicked ass. the same people that brought us gi joe & transformers did this one too. but i wouldn't say all cartoons suck now. catoons in the mid '90s sucked.

I like how they stuck as close to the source material as they could while keeping it a kids show. A classic example of a cartoon that has actual work put behind it.

You just told everything in the next episode

Phoenix = obligatory cute character! That's why Thundarr owns Conan, no Orko/Snarf type companion.

Excellent show! Do you have Episode 2? This one kind of leaves you hanging on the edge of your seat with the whole "TO BE CONTINUED"
FrightofKnight 4 years ago
haha. ur right it does leave you hanging. Well I'll try an put the second one up soon. Unfortunately I don't have the bandwidth to put them all up, and youtube would probably take them down if I did.
