  • great ending

  • asak ibrahim 27.can u please tell me then ifs its even wrong to put up barriers segregate men n women at social fuctions like weddings?

  • does anyone know the name of the song played at the very end of the film?

  • very good documentry thank you have subscribed 5 stars

  • where are part 2 , part4 & part 5

  • Youtube took them down. Copyrights were claimed :(

  • put them up again with another account ;)

if you don't label them but put them on surfthechannel, they prob won't be removed for a while.

  • noo!

  • Glad that I was able to see this much again. Remembered enjoying seeing it on the CBC. Zarqa Nawaz has done good work with this and Little Mosque on the Prairie.

The example where there can be equality and it be taken away goes beyond Islam. American under attack, the Patriot Act, Islam under attack, woman should not speak out - excuses in both cases. What do you think of Monia Mazigh (Maher Arar's wife) and El-Farouk Khaki founder of Salaam Canada?

  • Also Habibi, in Surah 2 ayat 42 it says "And mix up not the truth with falsehood, nor hide the truth while you know." This is truth, and no not everyone is going to exept it. When prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) brought Islam not everyone exepted it at first. Stay deligent in your studies, and in your work. You have a sister here that supports you. Ny

  • Salam Alaikoam, I agree this is what I found in my research no curtains or walls. Also lowering the gaze occassionally is the best curtain.

  • to pist0l..

My dear brother in Islam, how could your emaan be soo weak that you cannot look away when you see something wrong.. I live in a Canadian society and I guarantee you that mosque is the last place where you will find a girl with islamically inappropriate clothing..if you cannot save your emman at the mosque, then goodluck with the mall or school or workplace or wte...and besides its the second look that counts!!!

  • Man I keep hearing about women being wanting to be "included". Why don't women start their OWN initiatives and leave the MEN out of it? Why are you guys so weak? Women have just as much strength as men so DO something! "khud hi ko kar buland" - Elevate YOURSELF so much that men feel excluded instead. STOP BEING THE VICTIMS!

  • Very interesting and refreshing perspective...

  • thank u so much for sharing this!

  • That is the fault of these scholars(who r guilty of this) because they have authority over the masses(as far as educating the ppl abt Islam) therefore it is their resposibility to feed the ppl knowledge&insight. If they consciously hide the word of Allah frm the ppl then they r a Kaffar.

  • The prophet(saw)said(rough translation that an innovation will never be accepted. and what wasn't the sunnah of the prophet is an innovation. To say that in the western society we need to create a physical barrier is not an excuse because the women who attend masjids are muslim who cover not women half dressed. that goes on outside the masjid not inside it. Are we to say that we know better than Allah and his messenger??? No...it is bidah. the prophet did not legislate this..but it is now common

  • omar was a rightly guided caliph who Allah revealed many ayaat after he corrected Prophet/considered something to prophet. Omar put up the barrier in masjid and there is nothing wrong with it, because it does not contradict prophet. prophet did not put barrier becasue in his time he did not see the fitna. omar used his judgment to put it up and it is okay becasue he is adapting to the society at the time

  • i do not disagree with the sisters that we should not be seperated in the masaajid but they not to look at them self and see if they r proper dressed cos when some one finish they prayer and end seeing a sister whos wearing tite clothes with hijab on her head thinking she fully dressed its not rite for us and it reduce our emaan. Its already hard for us facing the trials out side so why would they want to bring those trials inside the masaajid. The woman must wear the niqaab cos its crutial.

  • Yeah, it's always the women right? just because men cannot control themselves.

Like I sister already said, do you consider yourself an uncontrollable animal who not even in the house of God can control your sexual desires?

    That'd unbelievable!!

Men should not think of themselves as instinctive animal and SHOULD NO sexualized the sisters IN THE MASJID!! You go their to praise God not to stare at the women's bodies to see if they have tight clothes or not!!

  • sister like i said, i do not disagree with u but u sisters also need to fix up. How can u asist on wearing tite clothes especialy in the masjid, if a sister wearing a neeqab then theres no problem. But now days sister dont want to cover them self up propertly so how can u not want to avoid any fitnah by seperatin the two?

  • So why did YOUR LORD tell the women to cover. men have a dress code too. Its sad when muslims try and give dawah and are dead wrong. Stop making this a women doing things for men..my niqaab my hijaab my jilbaab is for Allaah so He can be pleased with me. Yes at the same time I am modest and free from men with disease in their heart and don't act like they don't exist.

  • ibrahim27.you are so right.men have to be responsible for their actions.that means keep dirty thoughts out of their head and their peckers in their pants.women should'nt be deprived from worshipng cause man cant control his mind and eyes and pecker.

  • أَلَيْسَ الصُّبْحُ بِقَرِيبٍ

  • this is the lebral islamic views ,,, just like christian lebrals :) ,,, they want to be called muslims ,,, but enjoy both ,,, here and here after ,,, lets not just say no for a currten ,,, but lets ask ,, what will the currten brevent u of doin? ,, if u have somethin to say ,,, i bet u have a husband, brother or a father than can speak loudly for ur point .. :)

  • thank you!

  • 2 nd 2 can be 4 or 22,, this is how isamic philosophy has been manupilated in this video

  • This was a very well-put-together documentary. It answered my questions and I thank them for that.

  • Asalamu Alaikum ...Tariq Suwaidan Great Lecturer...love his views of correct treatment of Women in Islam..seperate Religiona and tradition..thats where innovation corrupts us as a society as an ummah. Peace .

  • What is he talking about (Tariq Sawidan), wrong!! Does he know who started the current between men & womren. May Allah guide those who made this video and those who are in the video. And they (you) should have Taqwah of Allah and stop creating fitnah, for it is what the shytan and his followers are upon.

  • brother i still learn about relegion , but i did not see a scholar who says the opposite of what tariq alsawidan is saying , this is a humble discussion to know the real way of how prophet mohammad and his companions lived

  • Fortunately, we Muslims know how is a scholar and how is NOT...May Allah guide us all to his mercy

  • To the people who spoke in this Videos...: you are my brothers and sisters in Islam. However, I strongly advise you to talk only after making sure that you have a sound understanding of Islamic teachings. Most of you the Arabic language is not his or her first language. For those how are Arabic: revise your Arabic. The Quran is in Arabic (A language so precise and clear)

  • I believe this video speaks is not of Islam, but against Islam. And I also believe that the people shown in this video as muslim men and women are not muslims,or atleast the non-practising muslims who have no knowledge of Islam. They can as well form a new religion where they dont have to keep hijab and intermingle with men.But Islam prohibits it,like it or not. period

  • What the hell are you talking about!! All women in this video are wearing hijab and are striving to live as close to the sunnah of the Prophet as they can. And they don't want to "intermingle with men" as you say, they want to be part of the ONE community, NOT two, that we have to be.

Open up your mind, man! Stop living in the 6th century (Jahiliyyah)

  • Even christians can wear Hijab and act like muslims.Dont you see how they are making fun of Islam and muslim men? They are making them sound like they have oppressed muslim women since the time after the Prophet(pbuh).Hijab doesnt just mean wearing a scarf, hijab means to hide oneself from other non-mahram men.Like I said, you can follow this modern Islam and send ur women out to intermingle with the opposite sex,but we wont

  • how is praying without men without pardah going to help u be a part of one community? yes, women should be allowed in the masjid and have thier voice in the masjid. but there needs to be a barrier and pardah because that IS from the sunnah. u need ilm of the deen, stop making up stuff. thats jahiliyah. intermingling between sexes is haram.

  • Bro, it is not about being open or closed. It is about following the Rasoul (saw) and his shaabah. Fear Allah and plz, don't follow your desire; for that is what the shytan want I'badullah to do.

  • Does anyone know the name of the song playing in the end or where I can find it?

  • In the credits it says that it was composed by Rob Bryanton, Todd Bryanton, and Tracy Gerlach. I haven't found the song anywhere :(

  • hahah, sorry to say it... the only way you will control a man ever is if you become jewish! hahaha only jewish woman control us poor souls... I like that about islam, you can beat her up marry 10000 wives.. its' good...

  • HE IS HOT! YUM YUM! OH BABBY! YUM YUM

  • Salaam alikom. I love Reza Aslan's books! 'no god but God" was awesome! I am a self procailmed "Muslim Femenist Cowgirl" (got it from American Muslim author Asma Gull Hasan). I am sick of other converts telling me women get more reward for praying at home, women can't wear perfume in public, men and women can't be friend, no free mixing between men and women, etc, etc.

  • It is OK for women to pray behind the men without separation,

BUT they MUST, and should wear clothes which not picture their bodies I mean tight clothes.

As well as, without any cosmetics in their face.

  • It is ok for women to pray in front of men without separation too.

All are naked before the eyes of God.

  • I,never saw all the 6 parts, but i saw 3 of them she is right , we need to adopt islam , not some culture of particular countries, the question of being aroused.quran says women are the most alluring for normal man, that is the reason why hijab is prescribed to both men and women , so that they can behave. but to cut off women completely is insane , which allah has not prescribed.

  • Who exactly are you referring to when you say "we need to adopt Islam"?

  • Become a believer, or die.

that is what is meant by "adopt islam"

  • Don't make a fool of yourself windmillcrusader. Read quickfixyz's comment before you post your opinion.

He says "we need to adopt islam, not some culture of particular countries"

He means that "MUSLIMS" should adopt the religion not the culture where the religion is predominant (Morocco, Pakistan, Iran, Saudi Arabia, for example).

  • stop this madness, stop living in the dark ages, and stop oppressing women.

  • Nicely made documentary, however that Sheikh has a speech impediment or something...

  • I seriously prefer a sheik with a "speech impediment" than a sheik with a "thought impediment", and by that I mean I prefer an open minded sheik than a backward sheik who uses his patriarchal and macho views when it comes to give interpretations on how women should behave or dress.

  • There need to be more ppl like this disproving the haters, dammit! Are there any other progressive Muslims like this?

  • Yes, Reza Aslan is a great progressive Muslim. I highly recommend you to read his book 'No god but God'. Definitely one of the best contemporary books ever written about Islam by a Muslim. It's objective and does not favor a shite or sunni view.

  • Thank you for featuring this! Mega-Kudos to Dr. Suwaidan and especially Sheikh Adhami for their contributions to this. I'm sure that If I was ever to get into a lengthy conversation with either of them we'd probably have disagreements, but I admire their intellect! I am not Muslim and don't see myself converting. To Zarqa Nawaz, you go girl!

    Liberty forever!

  • i dont like the title "progressive muslims" as if this group is intellectual in some way. evry muslim is progressive technically, he changes for better.for some muslims it takes longer to understand then the others, i would not group muslims in progressive and non progressive.

  • HA, actually, not every Muslim is progressive. If that were the case, we would see these barriers being broken down. The problem is that many are not progressive, and choose to retain past traditions, which in actual fact is very backwards thinking.

  • I was wondering if Parts 2, 4, and 5 are?

We were supposed to watch this for my World of Islam class in college, yet I can't seem to find them.

  • Please go to my channel, more information is available there. Read the comments. Thanks for watching!!

  • I read the comments you suggested and will watch it at Google as suggested. My apologies for the trouble.

  • No problem. Good luck in your class!

  • Comment removed

  • Only in the west a mosqe needs A commetie.

  • Yes, the community has saying in all decisions. I think that's cool! Rather than having a small group that makes decisions without caring about what the mayority says.

  • The mosque as a location is highly overated, particularly in Non Muslim Lands. The sister (Zarqa) mentioned how she thought about building her own mosque. Unfortunately this is usually what happens in our community. It is better to finance a community of scholars and students of knowledge that pray in a park or someones garage, rather than a community of ignorants that fight over (or don't fight over a 1.2 million dollar Islamic center.

  • We (Muslims) should not be reactionary! I'm sure that the production costs of this documentary could have been used to sponsor a full ride scholarship at an Islamic University for one or more of our sisters. Then these serious issues can be addressed properly.

  • #1 I would have to agree with the sister Aslimi on the problem is one of ignorance. I just fear that some of our sisters also will also react out of "good intentions" and began to go to the other extreme, such as our sister Amina Wadud (leading the Salat of a mixed congregation may Allah Guide her)...

  • Thank you for uploading.

  • "Whatever is decreed on the wives of the prophet(s) is decreed on all muslim women."

Where did you get that from? I might want to read the source to verify that information. Thanks and Peace!

  • exellent doc. fully support my sister. brings a bright light to this issue. but does anyone know how to watch part 2 and part 4? i cant find them.

  • Yes, go to my channel, in the comments it says where you can watch the full documentary. Thanks for watching!! Peace!

  • its a shame to see us in the west getting affected the ways of the disbelievers. Who are calling us to make the women do the exact same jobs as men, to have women imams, and many other things, just like the Christians Subhanallah. Allah said "the jews and Christians will never be pleased with you until you follow them.."

  • That's so pathetic!

Just because there's books written by men about women in Islam, doesn't mean that men are controlling them. Its JUST ANOHER OF THOSE CALLS MADE BY THE DISBELIEVERS to disunite us. doesn't matter who its written by as long as its from people of knowledge who speak based on proof, then this is what's required, subhanallah not that we get all the sisters to write books even if they haven't studied Islamic science.

  • i think it is soooooo daring of her to do this kind of thing. she has really opened my eyes.

  • You need to research some Islam. And watch other REAL informational Islamic documentaries which have other varing opinions

  • so, you want to turn the masjid into a church, and please tell that sister not to wear pant's while praying, may allah guide these people, ameen

  • Completly agree. So u want men & women to mingle u want partitions erased& u want women not to follow the Prophet(PBUH) wives saying that it was a particular case u probably r going to say next whats wrong with covering womens hairs & chest(which btw many women don't follow that thier hijab is supposed to cover their hair AND chests) how about we convert to a non Islamic relgion all this exsits in Kaafir relgions. Yes definatly May ALLAH(SWT) provide truth to you guys.

  • women should be allowed to pray in the mosque its not sensible but I also beleive that they should be praying in the back with other women and not mingling with the men or pray next to them during prayers...

soo all the men in the front

    all women in the back

  • women are supposed to be on the mens left and behind them. so yea ur right

  • He is right, but that's NOT "Islamic" per say. Nothing supports this assumption but still people keep accepting it.

  • Dear Muslims, do not be misguided...; see this video>>

    youtube dot com/watch?v=y-RTqMovNxo

  • Asalaamu Alaykum wa rahmatAllahi wa barakatahu ya Muslimoon <3

  • the sister waited until they started praying???Did she miss the first Rakat?? what if Allah swt doesnt accept her prayers?? thats SCARY FOR ME to come on the last day with no deeds(bankrupt) and please sisters the BROTHERS ARE NOT OUT TO GET YOU, they love you!!!!

  • During Ramadan, and on the daily basis, some people miss the first Rakat, but they do it after everybody is done. I'd guess you know that, right? There's nothing wrong with it.

  • MUHAMMAD SAAW!!!!the prophet SAAW!!!!!!!!!

  • hi

    =)

    don't fight =)

  • the video is talking about culture superseding islam.. this is not allowed.. simple fact.. people are practicing their culture over their religion..

  • Isn't that simple to understand? I don't know why people have so much trouble understanding it.

  • THIS IS about the partition, have you noticed the video you're commenting on?? I SAID I reject those "scholars" that teach absurdity, I have given my examples above, I don't know if you have even read my messages. I read everyday from those who THINK critically and study things from a fresh perspective without wanting to impose their will or point of view on others.

  • No the partition is insignifigant, the shariah allows room for both...one typicaly is not a fasiq if he says it is not nessecary so long as women dress modest, which is true. But one becomes a fasiq or a dal (astray) at the very least, allah knows best, when they insult the sahaba and says there is no need for ahadith. And this is what we are discussing

  • My friend, I know you're very passionate about Islam, and I respect that. But you don't have to be always so defensive. It is so easy to understand. Look:

The video is about partition, obviously we have to comment on partition, right? that's simple logic. Partition is NOT supported by ANYTHING and it's a cultural thing NOT part of Islam. I'm discussion the video, YOU are the one JUDGING people here, like if you were the role model for Muslims. C'mon!

  • umm if they want the masjid not to have a separator like the prophets mosque did not, then they should also dress with the same modesty the at that mosque dressed.

p.s as mt mosque we voted on the issue, and more women voted for the separator than men

  • What do you mean with "modesty," wearing a burqa? From what I know they only show they face and hand at the mosque. The point is that the partition is NOT Islamic. NO evidence to back it up, not from the Qur'an nor from the sunnah, period. Why vote for it then? Do they vote for praying or fasting? No, because for that we can find prove, BUT for the barrier DON'T.

  • Asalam Alikom Ya Ibarahim,

I dont know what "not islamic" means, as i have never come across that term in a book of fiqh, I do however know "halal", "haram"

  • ,"Sunnah", "Farid" and "Wajib" We dont vote for Salah, because it fard, however for the barier, even if it was not sunnah of fard, in the least it is Mubah, or permissible, so are you saying, women should not be allowed to vote for a permisable thing if it makes them more comfortable?

  • I'm not saying anything, don't put words in my mouth. Now, why is it permissible? why men don't pray then in the backroom behind a partition where they can't see women? That could as well be permissible, right?

  • then that room would be the masjid, now wouldnt it?

  • up to this day, I haven't seen a single masjid that has women in the front, and men pray in a separate room in the back. I'd love to see that, if you have a picture please send it to me!

  • Also, if you do study fiqh and the sunnah, you will find that traditionally women very rarely prayed in the masjid And most muslim men allways prayed in the masjid five times a day, that is because the greatest reward according to the hadith for womens salah is in home, while for men, it is actualy makruh (at best) to pray home if a masjid in nearby

  • Anyway, as far as the shariah is concerned, there is no need for a barrier so long as i said earlier the women dress with same modesty. That means not showing more that the face and hands with loose clothes and no makeup.

  • As far as I know, all women go to the mosque showing only their face and hands. So, why use the partition? Again, NO evidence whatsoever to back a decision of using it, period. By the way, what about men? I've seen guys who use lotion and cologne when going to the mosque. Why is it always about putting the blame on the women?

  • well, you know wrong, not all women go to the masjid like that. And secondly, their is evidence, its called ijma. Do you know what that means? The partition is acceptable by ijma of the ummah, which qualifies. Also, anyone who has studied shariah knows whatever is not explicitly forbidden is permissible. As for men wearing cologne to the masjid, that is actually sunnah and they should. However it is Haram according to the quran and hadith for women to wear perfume outside the home

  • Prophet (saws) said:

Any woman who wears perfume and passes by some people who smell her perfume is like one who commits fornication.

    Abu Hurairah said that:

A woman passed by him smelling strongly of scent. He called to her: "O slave of the powerful, are you going to the mosque?" She said that she was. He said: "Go back and wash it off...

  • ...I heard the Messenger of Allah (saws) say: 'Any woman who goes to the mosque wearing perfume will not have her prayer accepted by Allah; first she should go back home and have a bath [to wash it off].'"

  • Now, how stupid is that. What kind of God would not accept the prayer of a woman who wears perfume??? Whoever INVENTED this hadith was obviously a misogynist.

  • Ok you clearly do not to seem to be a muslim by the way you speak, there is no sense in arguring with you

  • Wow, I didn't know I was speaking to a powerful being who can tell who is and who is NOT a Muslim. Perhaps you also think that sufis, shias, and so on are not Muslims and all who do not follow what you do will burn in hell, right? what a wise person you are.

  • I am sufi and my grandmother is shia...

  • i dont know about you, only allah does, but ur words are that of a fasiq at best, allah knows best

  • Astaghfurulah, see what i mean people. yes allah will not accept the prayers of a women who wears perfume in public because it creates fitna, that is a sahih hadith and now u have insulted allah and his messnger

  • Tell WHERE in the Quran it states that the prayers of a woman who wears perfume will not be accepted. If that is not in the Quran, Allah will NOT punish me, but he will punish those who invented such things and those who follow other Sunnah than HIS.

  • Write here...surah ahzab and surah nour, it says they should not reveal their zeena, which is anything extra that makes them beautiful or attractive to non related men.

  • Again, I'll paraphrase the question, please tell me WHERE in the QURAN textually says "the prayers of a woman who wears perfume will not be accepted" Give me the surah and ayat please. "attractive to non related men"? what about women? do you think they won't feel attracted to a brother who smells and looks good? by the same token men should not wear cologne neither. (hadith!)

  • Again, the hadith i mentioned where the prophet said "Dont ever say 'we will only find what is explicitly in the quran,' for i have come with just as many commans and orders" not to mention the verses i mentioned showing how we must obey the prophet, and thus whatever he says is traced back to the quran. Rasululah forbade women from wearing perfume in public but encouraged men to, that is according to mutwatier and sahih hadith and sunnah

  • Look my friend, don't play with words. I asked you WHERE in the Quran said that and YOU said this "Write here...surah ahzab and surah nour". YOU are the one who said that was in the QURAN, now you tell me it's in the hadith. Make up your mind!! Don't mix one with the other because you even confuse yourself.

  • Lastly the Prophet, upon him be peace said, "Let me not find anyone of you reclining on his couch when he hears something regarding something i have commanded or forbidden and saying, 'we dont know, what we will find in God's Book alone we will follow'"

  • I loved this documentary because it brings to light a very serious issue and that is we, the young generation of Muslims, believe that the manner in which things are done in a mosque by the elders is the right way or the islamic manner of doing things. But that is not true, we have to breathe change into our own mosque, our own family and overcome the fear of being look as "not-Islamic".

  • Mashallah, thanks for posting this. I've been wanting to see this for years now. And I totally agree with what sister Zarqa and many of the women in the video are saying. I've actually chosen to stay home and watch this video rather than go to the mosque tonight. Her last words about sometimes needing a break from the mosque illustrate exactly how I'm feeling right.

  • Sadly it is true in many of our masjids. That's why we have not one but three communities: Men, women who go to the mosque and pray behind a partition, and those those who just quit going to the mosque. That's sad. The sense of one ummah is lost.

  • Thank you SO much for posting this. I have a Muslimah revert, this struggle holds a special place in my heart. May we become better Muslims through this struggle inshallah.

  • Absolutly brilliant! I wish all the sisters struggling in the world for thier God Given Rights through Islam, 110% sucess, and pray for them with all my heart. Inshallah the Islamic Ummah will be the just and most modern thinkin people in the world.
