I don't know if it was the mic placement or what ... but Bonham always seemed to get some amazing tones out of the one bass drum (not to mention his amazing control of that foot). It just seems there are various levels of tone out of that (and other drums) so there was more of an atmospheric and analog quality (as opposed to a digital "either on or off" quality I feel a lot of more modern drumming sounds like - a trend of more modern 80's till now drum recording has been so cardboard-box-like).
is jimmy all by himself or this song was on his solo album or with whom is he playin with, and whats the name of the song? the name of the band is the nobs? never heard of that song
God thankyou. I know they reworked heaps of old material that later got credited to its predecessors (see remasters) but this is just gold to hear how this track has grown even from here. This is the best thing I have found on now named METUBE!
I just wish youtube didn't downgrade the quality so much when converting videos. It sounds better in its full bitrate, but here at least you get the gist of how beautiful this song is.
sounds electric acoustic maybe, but page def did the bass for this. thats just not jonesy. page did do bass back in his early yardbird days. it just sounds more like a guitar riff.
You guys are idiots haha. Jack White is using a whammy pedal to create harmonies. They had that pedal back in the 70's too. And if you guys didn't already know, Jack and Jimmy are fond of each other, so I don't see why you don't appreciate White.
JPJ did remark after the O2 gig that he had forgotten just how hard the bass line for "Good Times, Bad Times" was until they went into rehearsal. I think that that set of riffs *is* a bit harder to pull off than that of "Lemon Song". Not to say that either song is easy for bass players to kick out...
My guess on this recording would be around 74-75. I strongly feel this could have been on Physical Graffiti. If you listen to the sound of the drumming, it's got that distinctive sound from Kashmir and In The Light. Don't hold me to my word, it's just my opinion. Rock on Zeppelin lovers!
Never liked the Midnight moonlight version as much as this, must be the drumming and the addition by subtraction of Paul Rogers' singing. The sadness is that this showed so clearly where this band could have gone and led music away from the hairband era and fulfilled Jimmy's dream of incredibly skilled musicians leading constant revolutions. Now, a player like Buckethead is a freakshow, and (insert current pop tragedy group here) is mainstream. Should be the reverse.
What's wrong with Buckethead? He's obviously no Jimmy, but there's no one else to settle with. He's not just a shredder, he can be pretty innovative at times compared to most modern guitarists. Have you ever heard Whitewash or Big Sir Moon?
my guess is between 75-76. I remember Plant saying Page was working on an instrumental before Presence was released. I never knew there was more of this prior to 1:16 of the recording.
Hmm. . .it sounds about that era (note Jonesy's bass tone), but how else would Page have gotten the name for their record label, which launched in 1974? Unless the information I have is wrong, and the song was named after the record label.

jimmy page later did it with the firm. and called it "midnight moonlight"

oh, it called swan song

Listen to the power of the drums and it will be obvious who it is. The nobs is a cover name to keep the video up. The bass is a dead give away too.

check out the HD, sounds better because it isn't so compressed.

It must be after 1976. John paul jones has got his alembic bass on this one.
Sigiderunterhalter 3 years ago
I dunno, his base sounds more acoustic. Maybe it's an acoustic base...
Zimbabweland 3 years ago
Sigiderunterhalter is right it is his alembic.
DeathBomb669 3 years ago 2
yeah you may be right, the base has a punch to it. It sounds electric now that I think of it.

And who knows he could be using the effect Jack white used in Seven Nation Army to get the bass tone on guitar,
sharrer2 3 years ago
mind you Sharrer2 this was well before the time of your prescious Jack White and Seven Nation Army
BonzoMcBonzo 3 years ago
lol.
Im not stupid i know.
I was mearly saying that its a possibility that the same effect could have been used.
If you mistook me for comparing them you were wrong.
There is no comparison

sorry gotsta disagree. Johnsey did the best bass line ever in the Lemon Song so this would have been easy for him.
