  • Tommy 'The Hitman' Hearns... aka 'Motor City Cobra'.

  • if only boxers still had balls like this today...

  • and you ufc guys think your sport has more action than this? PALEASSEEEEEEEEEE

  • The best 1 round ever!

  • This isn't boxing, this is fighting!!!

  • Mayweather need to watch fights like this and take notes, all guts and no fear!!

  • thumbs down for the pathetic rocky music at the start

  • and yet he continued throughout the fight. Only years later did people realise that he broke his hand in the fight. No moaning, and certainly no belly- aching, hearns manned up and brought the fight to haglers doorstep. Courage, desire and heart that david haye will never possess

  • @houseofpain1010 My thoughts exactly.Hearns fighting ferociously with a broken hand.David Haye blamed his loss to Klitschko on breaking his pinkietoe weeks BEFORE the fight.AND he made sure the world "knew" that his toe was the reason.Hearns has as far as i know NEVER used it as an excuse."Yupp,my hand broke.Shit happens".Even if Haye is a HW Hearns would have bitchslapped him with sheer heart and guts!

  • I just read a column by jeff powell, in the daily mail, regarding that piss- poor excuse of a heavyweight David Haye, in which coming off that shambolic Harrison fight, gave the unison and decree of preventing the further decline of british heavyweight scene. Constantly whinging and fucking moaning about his toe, there was a small piece regarding a fight between hearn and hagler, titled 'the bloodiest fight in boxing history'. It brung up the fact that hearns had broken his hand in round1 (cont

  • One the greatest first round in boxing history. They don't make them like these guys anymore.

  • @DannyRugged Great Comment. Hearns was also a man that started at light weight. A fantastic fighter and true gentleman of the ring that was polite, eloquent and gave his few victors credit. A great man of sport in my opinion and other mouthy and lesser rude black american fighters could do well to follow his example as could many mouthy rude white fighters too !

  • Poor old Sibson, Mugabi, Roldan ..... fancy peaking at the same time as Hagler. However good Calazhe, Benn, Collins were (I think these were great) -- lucky boys for missing Hagler !

  • hearns has only one defect a chin of glass. he was totally in control of this fight.

  • Hagler exposed all of Hearns' weaknesses inside of 3 minutes. Chin, Stamina, fragile right hand.

  • @shire2005 Hearns had one of the best right hands in boxing history. Fragile I don't think so, go back and look at some of his highlights.

  • both these niggas would put it on anyone nowadays...2 truly great boxers...

  • This round was like a Rocky movie

  • if hearns didn't break his hand in this round, he probably would have won the fight.

  • music spoils it

  • like i say if ur gonna do sumthing do it hard :)

  • I love the excitement in the commentators voices, like kids seeing a rollercoaster for the first time

  • They called this "9 minutes of Hell" for a reason

  • hearns broke his hand in the second min

  • Hagler is a monster...

  • The best round of boxing of the 80's.

  • lol they were goin at it.

  • It is exciting but it shows nothing. These are just two guys swinging for the fences showing no skill.

  • @nalon311 nothin. so i'm guessin if u took haglers place and fought hearns who would b swingin for the fences showing no skill u think u would last longer then 30 seconds? they have skill ur eyes are just too slow to see the skill cos its such a fast paced fight . maybe ur a mayweather fan and like watchin boring ass fights where one guy runs away for the whole fight then throws an average of 30 punches a round.

  • @HewNed1 There is no technical value to 60% those punches, they are also showing very little head movement

  • Gotta admit, best opening round I ever did see. Warriors, Pity they were yanks. respect

  • We can credit Hearns for giving us a terrific fight to watch. He fought a great round 1! But in total honesty Hearn's was never close to winning this fight and allowed himself to get hit with punches at the end of rd one that hurt him. He made major mistakes and that along with the hand injury basically finished him in rd 1.

In the 1980s there were many good middleweights who could have come in and fought Hagler hard for 3 rds Hearn's didn't do anything all that special. Sorry.

  • @shire2005 look lets be honest re the Hagler VS Hearns Fight Hearns would never have beaten Hagler at any time in his career. However if you were watching this fight live as i was trust me it truly was a great fight the noise of the punches landing the blood from hagler flying everywhere it was awesome,I'm a hagler fan always was always will be Tommy Hearns played his part in one of the all time great fights .Hagler threw the skill out the window & turned it into a streetfight it was Special.

  • The best fight in boxing history in my opinion. I scored it 10 - 10 to both fighters!

  • Hagler estaba en su peso natural. Igual Hearns tiro todo lo que tenia. Sin dudas Hagler era un supercampeon. Como me hubiera gustado verlo enfrentarse a Carlos Monzon !!!!

  • this is why ufc will never be better then boxing

  • @xxmcneilxx boxing is dead or dying fast if u haven't noticed...lol

  • @xxmcneilxx Because more brain damage equals better sport?

  • Hagler was a fighters fighter, no bullshit, just wanted to fight!!

  • MOst punches thrown in one round

  • enuff of this fucking stupid rocky music for fucks sake aaaaaaarrrrrrhhhhhhh!!!!!

  • HOLY SHIT!

  • Just look at the way Hearns walked over to Hagler at the beginning of the fight...he MEANT BUSINESS!!!!! This whole fight was great!!! It reminded me of the old Tom & Jerry cartoons where Tom would get into a fight with Spike and all you would see was fists and dust!!! ha ha ha

  • @Ronlg1 i know he meant business and he wasnt fucking around! gta love hearns

  • Do they make 'em like this anymore?! especially from opening bell?

  • No they dont screamin one!! This was boxing at its' FINEST!! I remember watching it years ago and I was utterly ASTONISHED!! No other round in the history of the sport compares to this!! Detroits"Hitman"put on quite an exhibition of"heart"and perseverence!!

  • Ohyeah, me too! agree 100pct. For having gone few rounds as it did, this definitely was not an inglorious loss for Tommy, he just happened to come up against maybe the hardest head in the sport. I forget the punch-count for this fight, 300+ i believe. Unbelievable the punishment Hagler took, but he was a bull. Tommy was a hero even inspite of this fight.

  • @SuperDetroit9 sorry to burst your bubble, but Emanuel Steward head coach of Kronk called Gatti v Ward rd 9, the rd of the century. His opinion counts as he has trained over 30 World champs.

  • How fragile was Tommy's right hand that he broke it inside of the first rd?

He was done after the first rd so Hagler's strategy worked perfectly.

  • This is a school yard fight between the 2 toughest guys on the play ground.

  • dear god, what left from Hagler at the 43 sec mark, savage

  • at 1:49, did Hagler hit a low blow??

  • yeh ...i just noticed it lol

  • the best round of boxing ever was amir khan v prescott

  • are u taking the fucken piss....khans was nothing compared to this!

  • shut up whore! lol anyway, Hearns won this round

  • the greatest round of boxing ever

  • Comment removed

  • best first round ever.

  • My father had ringside tickets to this fight. He gave me the ticket stub valued at $800 when I was only 9-10 yrs old. Moral of the text. He said he went to the restroom and when he returned the fight was over.lol

  • i know he was pissed...your father a good dad to give tickets like those

  • Best opening round...EVER!

  • Tommy broke his right hand in the first round of this fight and tried to fight one handed. He rocked Hagler several time in that round and it would have been interesting to see what he would've done with two healthy fists throughout the bout!

  • Hearns the best, from Spain "john cobra jackas"

  • this is like the 12th round of a fight absolutely magical

  • Most boxing sportswriters & historians call this " Pound for Pound - The Greatest Round of Boxing Ever "........so there it is.

  • greatest opening round in history without a shadow of doubt.

hearns stopped early in the third, not the second mate.

  • Hagler was a damn TANK he took shots, got rocked and still kept coming forward, most guys when they get rocked they fall back and try to defend more...NOT HAGLER!

  • Damn str8 Those were shots, Hearns wasnt called "The Hitman" for nothing!!

  • this is a pretty intense round maybe the best

  • ward gatti rd 9 my all time fave , but this may be best round 1 of all time no doubt

  • id like to put benn and the dog abuser mclelland up there as well

  • Hearns' right hand was shattered half way thru..Thats when he started backing up.. what a round though... superb.

  • Awesome rd. But, IMO I think the Gatti-Wrad rd 9 of the first fight was the best, follwed by Corrales-Castillo 10th rd in their first fight, this is a very close third.

  • i have the corrales-castillo as my top, gatti ward rd 9 comes in second and this third

  • corrales castillo fights ruled

  • yellow trunks were poor colour choice, hagler´s blacks gave more confidence to him, that was the real difference!

  • ROFL it was the trunks yeah.

  • Yeah, sure. The color of the trunks...

  • Best single round in boxing history but the fight was too one sided to be considered one of the best.

Hearn's brittle and often injured right hand didn't last a full round. His brittle chin went in the third.

  • the greatest and brutalitty round in history

is from the fight of Jack Dempsey vs Firpo

  • "st.valentines day massacre" sugar ray robinson jake lamotta, no one should take a beating like that!!

  • Legends and warriors both.

  • hearns has got to have the best jab i have ever seen in my life. then his right..... puts ppl to sleep. omg a truly devastating boxer

  • Ali, Holmes, Liston and Lewis have better jabs imo.

  • @yunggooch most definitly bro! hearns had the most devastating power in the history of this fucking sport, his ko's are so deadly that alot fighters couldnt recover from..its like he had 2 dumbells in his hands trying to hit u with it lol P4P

  • hearns vs hagler & sugar ray lenoard aw man those were the good ol boxing days !!!!!!!!!! classic shit

  • Those were the days when boxers fought for more than just pay cheques. We could have a fantastic trio today if Mayweather got his head out of the WWE's ass and came back to where he belongs, alongside Paquaio and Hatton.

  • You getting your wish, and if he wins his next match, its Pacqiao Mayweather!!!!

  • ooh now that will be something!

  • dont forget roberto duran

  • In the 1st round category: Yes, THE greatest round in history. Wow! The egos

    these guys had.

  • This is easily the sickest rd in boxing ever seen nationally by two All-Time Greats.

  • this round is like watching a fight til a teacher or police show up to stop it. hearns and hagler really put one on for the the history books of boxing.

  • Hagler was a like a trained guard pit bull. Attack you and grab you by the ass or nuts and just wouldnt let go till you wilted. Wonder if we'll ever see another like him?

Wonder if we'll ever see another Tommy Hearns? Unreal titanic fighters and the very best of their times. Boxing is really good now but compared to then its much weaker.

  • AWESOME POSSIBLY THE GREATEST ROUND OF BOXING I HAVE EVER SEEN FANTASTIC ...its like ROCKY but real!!!

  • man if you think that was good check out micky ward vs aturo gatti round 9

  • Ward vs gatti is good too but not on the same level. Two all time greats opening up at the highest possible level, that´s why this fight sets itself apart.

  • yea they hearns and haggler are better boxers but ward and gatti did it 3 times and all 3 fights were special

  • ONE OF THE BEST 3 FIGHTS OF ALL TIME

  • u know sh it about boxing hearns and hagler suck so does ur mom. roy jones beats hagler and hearns easy ask anyone stupid.

  • roy jones suck , that's why he got knock the fuck out like panty like you and your mom.

  • taver knock jones out twice and can't even fight like hearns stupid.

  • your spam from now on asiercostas , i'm not going to reply to idiot's like you. your waste of my time and world is a better place with out your stupid ass , so go fuck your self up the ass with a dildo or jump off a cliff you pile of shit and your mom.

  • no your stupid i said nothing about robinson or ray leonard u retard learn to read first. and when did roy jones go to sleep? u know nothing about boxing

  • why don't you look up roy jones vs. tarven. and i just added robinson and leonard to the rest of those idiot comments made by other dummies like you.

  • johnson vs jones or roy jones ko mental case

  • call me crazy im not impressed with either one of them. hearns cant take a punch and does not know how to clinch. hagler well he just sucks. paul williams, roy jones winky wright etc etc could all easily beat these two.

  • your not crazy , your stupid . you know shit about boxing. at leaset hearns got up from this knock down. roy jones went to sleep. and sugur ray robinson got he's ass kicked from a fighter who was not half as good as hagler carmen basilio and ray leonard was not fighting he was joging around the ring like the chicken he is.

  • winky wright would be hammered from outside by hearns all day, nd overwhelmed at middle by hagler, jones if he got hit by either of them is put to sleep, tht low left hand is not a gr8 idea against hearns and williams would be destroyed in evry conceivable way by these to lmao. did you see him get hammered by quintana? he wouldnt be standin if tht was hagler of hearns. there is no chance hagler is hurt by any of your names? and yes jones has a chance against hearns but they both have shit chins

  • better than any Rocky Movie!

  • That was simply amazing. The crowd went nuts, and rightfully so.

  • 1 word EPIC

    that was awsome!!!!!

  • Old skool!!, Hearns brawling again when he should´ve used his skills and boxed!

    Legends

  • amazing that is working class ballet

  • totally amazing...

  • It's like a whole fight in 1 round, amazing.

  • Somebody put this in Audley Harrison's stocking please?

  • Oi your so wicked lol lol lol lol lol lol its so true plus the muppet still thinks he can be world champion lol

  • wow this is the era of boxing i first watched as a kid..no wonder i love boxing. roberto duran, ray leonard, james hard rock green, john the beast mugabi, lol even holmes and ali for sure...remember mark breland, the manut bol of boxing.

For now Manny Pacquiao is definitely the best in the business and i hope he ko's cross dressing dela whore ya

oh kudos to Bernard Hopkins great fight over Pavlik

the look on hopkins face glaring at all the nay sayers and reporters was fucking priceless.

  • This IS greatest round ever. And this was best era of boxers ever. Sugar Ray Leonard, Duran, Hitman and Hagler...it will never be the same.

  • unbelievable! the best 1st rd ever hagler massive cut hearns broken hand! never get those fights anymore

  • this fight like rocky vs apolo , i loved marquez vs vaszquez ,vs gatti vs ward, cotto vs margarito, tito vs vargas

  • no scientific dancing for a change

  • Greates

  • All I can say is DAMN!

  • Hearns was slugging it out until about midway into the 2nd round then he wore himself out and tried boxing Hagler. Hagler switched southpaw and it changed everything.

  • Words can't explain the excitement ths fight generated!! It was the best fight of all time!! 20 years ago I was there. Everyone was on their feet screaming!! Hagler and Hearns gave their all!! This was an incredible event that no other fight has ever matched (As far as excitenment!!)

  • I still get chills watchin this, CLASSIC !!!

  • Awesome first round indeed ;)

  • Awesome!

  • The best 3 title fight of the past 30 years;

    1 Hagler-Hearns

    2 Barrera-Morales 1

    3 Corrales-Castillo 1

  • I prefer Marquez-Vazquez 3 against Corrales-Castillo 1. But I'll give the best round of all-time to Corrales-Castillo fight

  • Wow thats fighting right there just going at it.

  • Now thats boxing!

  • HEARNS BROKE HIS HAND IN THAT ROUND.

  • hearns' hands where to low from the off set man, he was waitng to get tagged. and tagged he got in the end

  • i think that in ring magazine the first round was voted round of the decade and the fight was voted fight of the decade

  • look at that right from hearns after 27 seconds, hagler showed what a hard bastard he was to stay on his feet and knock hearns out later.

  • yeah that was one of the best first rounds ive seen

  • Bloody hell !! lol

  • in my opinion the greatest world championship fight of all time, both fighters putting in all on the line and not scared to lose, you don't see this anymore.

  • Fantastic. Ah the good old days. If you like this try looking up Norton v Holmes. The last round is unbelievable.

  • hearns legs were shot before the fight, did something in the dressing room before fighting. he was doing stretching or something. either way the greatest fight ever.

  • Look up "The War(boxing) " on wikipedia and see what it says on the trivia, something about emanual steward and why hearns legs looked like the way they were.

  • someone from hearns entourage massage it in the dressing room, steward was very angry when he saw it, i've watched this fight multiple times & clearly right from the beggining hearns legs weren't there, i wonder they never did a rematch..

  • absolutely right. maybe money played an issue for not having a rematch.

  • yup...best ever for any weight class.

  • You could watch a million rounds of boxing, and nothing would even come close to these to guys in that round!...let anybody watch this round & they'll fall in love with the sport, for sure

  • well one thing i remember that the motorcity cobra mentioned on ringside was that his legs did not feel good going into this fight and as a result his strategy was to get hagler out early.

  • It's amazing how skinny Hearns was yet he had so much power

  • What an incredible round. Both got in some great shots.

  • One of the best rounds ever -- two world class boxers !.

  • i hope margarito vs cotto fight like this

  • too legends..id rather hearns

  • Hearns did the wrong fight,it all benefited Hagler who was a pure brawler.

  • i agree with you, hearns did not box smartly. This round goes as one of the best round 1 in history.

  • Real fighters! REAL LEGENDS Hearns and Hagler! Today the only fighter that i would liken to old school fighters like this is Pac Man. Beaten everybody in his class and moves up! His opponents have been of a very high calibre!(The ghost too but unfortunately through no fault of his own no great competition!

  • Great to see this again. Golden age of boxing.

  • god damn they are pounding the piss outta each other

  • Nothin like the old school!

  • Beautifull!

I miss these type of fights.

Nowadays they just dance around and hug each other.

  • hagler played his cards right got close in on the inside

  • If it weren't for Hearn's chimpanzee-like reach he would have never been a pro fighter !

  • announcers were smokin crack saying hearns hurt hagler, no way.

  • quality fight

  • me..............

  • who won that fight?

  • Hagler won by ko in the 3 rd

  • Wow! Tommy why did you fight Marvin's fight? Oh well.

  • agree..

  • amazing camera work for the time too

  • the GREATEST round 1 of all time.

  • why cant boxing be like this anymore!!!

  • Never a boring fight with the Hitman. He would knock you out or get knocked out!!!

  • GREATEST 1ST RD IN BOXING HISTORY!!
