Japan always wanted to attack Soviet Union, and so they attacked Mongolia in 1940 and lost big time. 50,000 soldiers were wiped out by the Mongols and Russians. That's why they dedcided it would be easier to attack the US, which was another mistake. Well, they weren't that smart! ;-)
